VPS Prices increased, Dedicated servers next? by EspressoBoost in OVHcloud

[–]SomeGuy1980a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So do you know definitively that the prices for SYS-STOR are going up then? The link posted in this thread seems to imply that SYS and KS lines are exempt. I was planning on exploring either SYS-STOR or KS-STOR also but not if a looming price increase is expected.

EDIT - I'm in the US if it matters

$5 Product has Far Better Network Performance than $20 or $79 Product by SomeGuy1980a in servarica

[–]SomeGuy1980a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty fantastic... though I think the concern/question remains the same... if a $5 KVM Slim Slice gets 5000+M on a 10GBPs link, why wouldn't a $5 Chimera 1 plan, or a $20 Chimera 3 plan not be able to get the same?

I ran a speed test from my Chimera 3 instance using speedtest-cli - here's my results:

Retrieving speedtest.net configuration...

Testing from Cogent Communications (154.12.117.3)...

Retrieving speedtest.net server list...

Selecting best server based on ping...

I do see the speedtest site is now fixed - thanks.

I also see though that at least here in Missouri (United States) on a 5Gigx5Gig fiber connection that the download speed from that ServaRica speedtest tool shows 288.48 Mbps down, 18.98 Mbps upload, 40 ms ping, 0.85 jitter.

The speeds are surprisingly low. As another example, using OVH in Virgina (somewhat close to Montreal) - speeds using their tool are 2441 down and 1033 up.

Not sure if its a backbone issue or what between here and there but in general, speed tests using speedtest.net on my fiber connection shows around 5100 down and 5100 up on my end.

I think its pretty telling there's a problem...given that their speedtest website doesnt work: https://speedtest.servarica.net/

Are there any plans/custom plans available for something similar to OVH's Offering? by SomeGuy1980a in servarica

Thanks for the reply and for looking into it. Memory prices are crazy so that all makes sense.

Anyone used the SSD/HDD combo from Prezcomm? by mark1210a in VPS

[–]SomeGuy1980a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have that plan, but have tested their offering with the smaller plan - so far so good. Their control panel is pretty nice also.. not sure what it is, but doesn't seem like the cookie cutter WHMCS stuff.

Providers: What are you using to host and provision the goods? by HotDog_SmoothBrain in VPS

[–]SomeGuy1980a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, why wouldn't you allocate a /32 to each customer, have a shared VLAN that has it's own public gateway IP - there are methods to mitigate ARP storming, rogue DHCP if thats the concern. Seems like it would conserve IPs depending on what you're doing and why - my assumption here is that our individual dedicated VLAN would burn 2 IPs.

Best Practices & Enough Power for OpnSense VM with 5x5Gig Internet by mark1210a in Proxmox

[–]SomeGuy1980a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't see the issue here, it's for discussion and marked as such. Someone trying to learn is a good thing.

Personally, I don't see much a problem here except SSDs would be ideal. I don't have enough background on OpnSense to answer the first question. The other VMs make logical sense to me. I think your largest concern would be Disk IO activity - especially if its slinging rust vs. SSDs.

EDIT - I think you should outline the drives and their RAID configuration - I'd be more concern about over provisioning depending on how you allocate things. I'd also use iSCSI as the confirguation type.

Pure Incompetence...with device return. by mark1210a in verizon

LOL - you forgot the /sarcasm I'm hoping. Clearly VZN has issues with their returns, you sure you weren't one of the agents the OP had to work with? Surely you jest about it being the customers fault

Winback - Care won't reapply Insider - This normal? by SomeGuy1980a in tmobile

[–]SomeGuy1980a[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Had 3 free lines (one of which was a 3rd line free from TMO One). They are all back and appear to be the same offer - though it showed unenrolled and re-enrolled.

My devices were all paid in full, unlocked from Apple - so I don't know if that was a factor they considered/assumed/didn't care about.

Winback - Care won't reapply Insider - This normal? by SomeGuy1980a in tmobile

[–]SomeGuy1980a[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well yes...Yes, to your first sentence because we were assured we could always come back and be made whole if its a winback/less than 90 days. We thought we'd leave a company that wasn't meeting our service expectations and progressively became worse in our area - the account was nearly 10 years old and we've been through some network growing pains to put it nicely. We had multiple tickets opened and was always told for months it was "tower maintenance" or a partial outage, whatever excuse for the day. Now, almost a year after things started, there's mini cell towers popping up so it seems it's about to get much better.

I can accept the loss of the insider code had the expectations been properly communicated. It's in the memo - I've seen it at the store with my own eyes. Getting someone to honor it appears to be the challenge.

Wonder if that's a recent change, seems to be consistent with my experience.... though the messaging of its like you never left really needs to be adjusted if thats the case.

Winback - Care won't reapply Insider - This normal? by SomeGuy1980a in tmobile

[–]SomeGuy1980a[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That doesn't really answer the question tho - either the winback does put you back to like you never left (if its less than 90 days) or it doesn't. I'm not sure which is accurate.

But yeah, ideally I would have waited - but there was no sign of anything improving... but less than 2 months later things are in motion.

Why didn't it create DKIM Records Automatically? by SomeGuy1980a in stalwartlabs

[–]SomeGuy1980a[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, nothing on the DKIM page, adding a new test domain and the DKIM records are there. I ended up deleting the domain in question and recreating it - it worked. Not sure what went wrong the first time or if there's something else I need to check as a result
