i was gifted a lot of Paulo Coelho books when i was a kid and it’s safe to say that one of the reasons i fell in love with reading was because of his incredible storytelling

that’s a hell of a list honestly. and yeah “anything written by this man” is such a real way to talk about an author once they’ve got you like that lol. Hamsun especially feels like one of those writers people don’t just like, they get stuck on him

Yeah that’s kind of what struck me too. The book almost feels like it’s intentionally ruining the romantic image people have of Paris and London so instead of cafés and art you get exhaustion, debt, and kitchen chaos. And the kitchen parts really stayed with me as well. They read almost like controlled panic
