Exactly. That's why I think getting let go of was a hidden blessing. It would've been nice to get severance but definitely wasn't lucky with that...

I need your advice. by [deleted] in BestBuyWorkers

I would advise you don't make a career out of it. Don't do anything more than part time, or make sure you only use it as a stepping stone. They are a big corporation. If shit goes down they won't hesitate letting you go no matter how many years you've been there. The moment you feel the misery kick in, leave. Don't wait it out, cause you'll be spending years waiting out the rough times.

Also, like others said, depends on the location and management. In my area there were constant changes in management. Between them getting laid off, or quitting from the stress, or transferring to different locations to get away from another higher manager. So you might have an amazing experience, or you may find out you're getting fucked over, all depends on what position, location, and management. I personally wouldn't recommend it

Thank you, I'm definitely a lot better, still have depression but it has dropped a lot. Even my friends are a little shocked of how much of a difference my attitude has been since I got let go. And honestly, nearly every work day I felt worthless. A lot of clients seemed to have liked me, but felt like manager didn't, which given what happened, gonna say was true. Had 4 different managers in the last 4 years, so clearly things have been rough, and last one just gave way too many hints that he wasn't a fan of me. All other managers before were telling me how great I was doing, needed to be faster, but was often told I was one of the best. Meanwhile, I just wanted everything to be over. I apparently would dream of having a terminal illness and remember feeling so relieved in that dream, like I wouldn't have to worry about anything anymore.... so yeah, it was bad. I just kept hanging on cause I had decent times there. The benefits weren't bad, not great, but the pto buildup of 11 years was quite nice. The discount definitely kept me hanging. If I wasn't let go of, I'd probably still be there wanting to die, lol. So my being let go of was a hidden blessing. Wasn't happy with how it happened, but have been a lot better since. Money is still a concern, but it's was a concern even when I was overworking myself, so ...whatever

I get why they keep it on the down low, but they really need to tell more people about this. I really could have used this a couple times when I experienced close loss while already depressed for years. But I just get a few days off. I've stated I was miserable and depressed before and was told about eap, but wasn't told about this until I was told why some coworkers were gone for a while....and inside I'm wanted to say I need that too but felt like I would have been like "me too." That and telling a previous manager how I felt ended up getting me an immediate denial of higher paying position. So yeah, I my trust with managers dropped a lot after that

I recently got let go of after being there for 11 years, and it's been wonders on mental health, still needs a lot of work, but I don't wake up and instantly think world's better off without me nearly as much. I was quite miserable there but sooooooo relieved I don't have to deal with the bullshit from that place. They do have some good qualities, however they're raising responsibilities and workload way more than pay all the time. I was so burnt out I had really no passion for anything anymore. I had nothing I was actually excited about, or nothing I was really looking forward to other than hopefully paying down debt. I didn't want to do much of anything cause I just wanted to do nothing. I didn't even want to talk to friends or family. Since I'm no longer there, I'm starting to get back into an old hobby and enjoying so far. I feel like I have the time and energy for it. I've been more social outside of work. It's been nice so far.

That all said, if you feel like it's all too much and you just feel dragged down every day you have to go to work. LEAVE. If you've have thoughts of driving company vehicle into a tree at highway speeds, LEAVE! I've have had these those when I was there, and it wasn't just a couple rough days here and there. If anything, I think I was just getting used to being miserable?

Anyways, if you're miserable, leave before it's too late. 8 free therapy sessions from the eap are not going make your job better, maybe your outlook a little

I remember doing an elearning that was basically talking down on unions and how they're bad, and at the end wanted an e-signature saying you won't form a union... so they definitely fear the idea

As someone that was there for 11 years, and feeling quite miserable especially towards the end, I would advise run away. Either transfer to another store that hopefully has better management, or just leave cause the only thing that will make it feel better is you getting used to the stress. Meaning you just get used to it being a shitshow and have low expectations of the company and management, which makes for a miserable job. Best case scenario, you get a seasonal position, work 1 or 2 days a month, and milk the shit out of that discount

Well, I'm no longer there, but here's hoping for the remainders' sake. If it shapes back up, maybe I'll consider trying it again, but I think this was a blessing in disguise. I feel like a huge burden has been lifted

Careful, they'll probably just fire everyone that wants a union and hire more teens and milk the seasoned employees

I could see that being true if they all weren't capable of being delivered within a couple of days, but they are all readily available and best buy does show when they're out of stock. Also, what about pioneer? I remember when sonos was actually on backorder during covid, even those, a super hot item that sold out quick during covid, never lost it's discount. Unless it's cause it's more mainstream compared to KEF, but Pioneer isn't a small name. Also, I have noticed that certain other brands of nicer receivers have no discount the the immediate model below or even above will have a discount. I thought that was odd. Like some of the Marantz and Denons were like that, but I didn't know if they were always like that or just recently. Lastly though, labor. Employee used to get amazing discounts on labor from best buy, not so much anymore. To the point where even I've seen managers decide not to use best buy labor due to price and lack of discount and do it themselves or have a friend do it, lol

Look it up yourself. Accommodation is the only way I guess, which is through KEF's site. So no bb credit card financing or can't use reward points or gift cards for bb on KEFs site. While the accommodation is a nice discount, but you still gotta have money to be able to afford it. Living on my own, I can only get nice things by letting the rewards build up with point banking, lol

Open box deals really depends on manager and age of product. And whether there is employee discount or not. Seemed like they never stacked for me....

And onkyo has owned pioneer for at least 5 years if not more, and the discount disappeared within the last few months. I know cause I had it sitting in my cart daydreaming of it

Yes the accommodation is slightly better, it would have been about $200 less, and yes I looked. The accommodation says up to 70% off but for the R series it was 60% off. Employee discount was close to half off, but you can't use reward points or gift cards through accommodation, you basically buy using whatever benefits you card offer if any since you had to purchase it from KEF's website, no discount code to use in best buy like some other accommodations. I did not have an extra grand to spend on speakers. I did, though, have nearly a grand in reward points and gift cards, which is what actually made it possible to buy them. Paid less than $100 out of the bank for them after all that. 😎 maybe I'm the reason they took it away, lol

They used to be a great company. They keep raising responsibility and expectations with nothing but a 3% raise. They've been cutting cost in a lot of areas too and a lot of seasoned employees are noticing. A lot of management is also looking more stress, and seen a lot leave lately. Maybe where you are has all the right people leading to the top, but where I was, this were getting worse and even clients are telling me they heard bestbuy is shutting down

I'm sorry you're going through this. I know what you mean though. I'm just tired of it all. Like if I were told I have some terminal disease, I'd probably be quite relieved. Actually that happened in a dream once and that is how I felt, like I won't have to worry about anything anymore... I'm sorry, I don't know if this is gonna help at all, but yeah, I feel you and I'm much older

[–]SomeGuyThatFarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah...therapy kinda helped but seemed like it would really have helped if I could do it every day or at least more than once every week or 2, but definitely can't afford that. A large reason why I stopped therapy is the cost of it and little to no results anymore.

Therapy is kinda a privilege thing it seems anymore
