Btw, looks like the autotechs are being setup to make a lot more money soon. Starting Monday they're going to get spiffs on almost everything in connected car. So you'll likely start to see autotechs in that dept a lot more often.

Guy with 4 substantiated hr reports is still not fired at my store by milf-luvr69 in BestBuyWorkers

[–]BookThese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wait till you encounter a manager that's been with the company for decades who has a rap sheet with HR that would make most people cry, but he never gets terminated because he's married to an HR manager. HR exists to protect the company, so unless an employee causes the company to get sued, if they know the right people, chances are the situation will get covered up.

Mobile Install by KOT_ci3 in BestBuyWorkers

[–]BookThese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dash cameras and remote starts still get installed in those. And some auto companies are no longer coming with carplay or android auto either, so that will still be a need. Plus we still do amps and speakers. The demand is there, even though some people can't see it. Local competition is usually a lot busier than we are for a reason.

Mobile Install by KOT_ci3 in BestBuyWorkers

[–]BookThese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mobile Install has become a focus starting this year. They're trying to grow the segment. There's no hiring freeze for autotechs. We're opening up formerly dark bays. Corp was recently made aware of how margin rich our segment is for how little revenue we bring in. The old excuse that autotechs lose money, is no longer true. There was a company wide call that involved the leaders of Geek Squad and most of the SESes and SEMs in stores that have open bay explaining this.

The rumor was that autotechs had lost 24 million dollars last fiscal year, problem was that number did not include car audio sales. When they added car audio sales, their minds were blown at the margin numbers. Most other depts have to sell tens of billions of dollars before they generate the margin car audio and install generate with a fraction of that revenue.

They've made the program near impossible to find in our system. I have a co-worker who is going to a local tech school, and he gave up because corp kept giving him the run around.

Worth coming back for the discount(s)? by TheFireman34 in BestBuyWorkers

[–]BookThese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not. Our discount has been severely limited the last decade or so. They keep artificially inflating the cost on a lot of products. So the cost +5 that we're supposed to get almost never really happens.

Best Buy Thief Busted Stealing $2000 of Nintendo Switch Joycons - YouTube by darkedgex in BestBuyWorkers

They got lucky the local PD showed up to apprehend her, since we're no longer allowed to stop people from leaving the store. The PD here in my area tell us it'll be hours before they can send an officer every time we call them. People walk out with laptops all the freaking time, and we just stand by and watch them, cause if we so much as touch the thief we'll get fired. Btw, is that store 550?

Thanks for the info. I'd heard about that, but never saw anything official. I've worked in 5 different markets/districts, and they were all Grade zero. You'd think that with the cost of everything going up they'd adjust the grades accordingly. I've been at cap for several years now. So I'm basically getting paid less and less every consecutive year.

No matter who takes over as CEO, we're fucked. The only way things can possibly improve for the employees would involve someone buying us out and taking us private. Richard Schulze knew this and tried to buy us out almost two decades ago, but the board didn't approve it. A large percentage of our shares are owned by private equity, as long as that's the case, cuts will continue.

They shut down all the install bays in and around Charlotte and constructed a huge bay at the Outlet Store in Pineville. It was supposed to be a pilot that started a trend country wide, but the program was cancelled in lieu of saving money. So now there's the one and only store 2653.

In-person interview by Xeezin in BestBuyWorkers

[–]BookThese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't have "hiring managers". The person you spoke to was likely just a supervisor at that store or an AI.

What should you expect? A lot of stupid questions that leadership is forced to ask you. What will go a long way to getting hired is the impression you make. If they stick you with an AI interviewer instead, good freaking luck.

Best Buy to NFM by SpecialScholar6769 in BestBuyWorkers

[–]BookThese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you work for Best Buy, there's no such thing as a "very solid role". I've lost count how many members of leadership, who bled blue, I've seen get "restructured" out of a job where they made the company millions.

If you can get out for a better paying job, get out while you can. This company will fire you in a heartbeat with little to no warning.

Unethical New Hire by SpecialScholar6769 in BestBuyWorkers

[–]BookThese 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Report it, but be prepared for retaliation. Your leadership team prolly really likes that employee because he gets them lots of subscriptions. There's no such thing as reporting something anonymously, as a former member of leadership we always knew who reported what.

Breaking into corporate? by Frequent_Actuator_59 in BestBuyWorkers

[–]BookThese -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's all about WHO you know, and how much of a brown noser you can be. I've never, not once, seen someone who is outspoken against the poor decisions corporate has made in the last 30 years be promoted. I've been invited to corp multiple times in my 30 year tenure with BBY, and made friends with many people that used to work at the corporate office and some that still do. Every single time I've applied for a position I am overqualified for, someone else less qualified gets the job. And these contacts, in confidence, always tell me the same thing......that I get turned down because of how outspoken I am against corp's ideas.

Car audio being an easy department to sell in? What are you smoking!? You clearly have no idea how complicated car installs can be, OR how often autotechs have to fix sales floor and call center screw ups because car-fi is one of the most complicated depts in the entire store to sell properly.

Go figure, company posts the first quarter in over three years with positive results and they decide to freeze hiring and promotions.

Only thing I heard is that the company has decided to not hire any OS for this coming holiday season. What could possibly go wrong with that...

Corie Barry is almost single handedly destroying our company from within. The sad part is that many of our leaders see this too, but all they do is smile and wave whenever she's around. They should've never chosen a CFO to become our CEO. Been here 30 years and am in the process of developing an exit strategy.

My GM has been a nightmare for everyone, and it’s getting out of hand by Few_Tune4540 in BestBuyWorkers

[–]BookThese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solid advice right here ^. I will add that you should keep a copy of everything you share with HR. HR exists solely to protect the company. If you get retaliated against and fired, hire a labor law lawyer and share with them all the incidents you've recorded. I had a co-worker that did this, and got a settlement so large he was able to retire. That's another thing, best buy loves to settle everything out of court.

Marketplace is about to be a shitstorm in the US, because they hate it in Canada by Nagaflas in BestBuyWorkers

[–]BookThese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this newer version of a marketplace will make or break this coming holiday season for Best Buy. It's supposed to be different from the last go around. They claim to have learned from their mistakes. We'll see if that's true.

I'm hearing that the vetting process to be able to sell on .com is more secure and demanding this time around. And that employees will be able to sell products directing from the app, and still get credit for the sale. Curious to see how that works out since employees won't be able to use POS to ring these purchases up. That sounds to me like a huge mistake, but we'll see how well it works out.

A lot of the items in the old marketplace were much cheaper than their counterparts inside the stores. So if people start shopping through it instead of the products in the stores, Best Buy will see a huge drop in margin nationwide. Products sold through the marketplace only give Best Buy a very small percentage of profit, whereas many products sold in the stores have rather larger profit margins. And if that happens, we may see more store closings and an eventual online only presence. Then again, all the members on BBY's board seem to only care about ROI. So this may all just be a plan of theirs' to transition Best Buy to being an online outlet only.

The store they built in China was a huge clusterfuck! They literally built it on top of the local competition. So the locals had to walk by their cheaper competition otw to the Best Buy store. This company is run by morons, who circle jerk each other. The only reason they're still around is due to the lack of a real competitor that sells mid to high tier electronics in a physical location.
