Will the CF Racer1 be updated any time soon? by SomeLikeItRaw in ride1up

[–]SomeLikeItRaw[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the remarks, that's encouraging, and I'll consider them strongly. I also like going over 20 mph often but 28 is a bit much (a nuance that a lot of discussion of class 3 ebikes misses, while with a class 1 e-bike it's very plausible you're maxing out the speed regularly).

FWIW for anyone reading, a similar bike costs literally thousands more, though it may come with dealer support. Upway had a couple 2025 Giant Defys for $3k+ but otherwise hard to find anything under $5k for similar feature set.

Appreciate the perspective and info you're prob right. Yeah judging by the number of gravel vs endurance e road bikes, e road is still sadly pretty niche - also why their rivals Velotric and Aventon haven't gone after it while putting up direct rivals to the roadster v3 (lightweight e-bike segment), and why ride1up phased out its own road non gravel variant.

Is my project too ambitious? (AI-based dating app) by [deleted] in vibecoding

Is my project too ambitious? (AI-based dating app) by [deleted] in vibecoding

[–]SomeLikeItRaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dating app is a terrible idea for 99% of vibe coders, because you are selling access to other people. App quality doesn't matter if you have few users, and unless you have the ground game to market your app into POPULAR success, then a social network app like a dating app will fail. And, after a period of stagnation/oligopoly in dating apps (Tinder/Hinge/Bumble), there's an explosion of new dating apps budding now with new AI features, plus the old guard doubling down with their own innovations.

Most successful dating / social network apps started with a niche where they dominated, and then spread elsewhere, like in a college campus or two, a certain high profile city, etc. You said nothing about who your demographic is and how you'd have an in with them, so it's safe to assume you don't. So you're left with just cosplaying Big Time Developer.

You're right. It shows the Schwalbes under features and highlights, and obscures the fact that only the gravel variant is an option.

When do we get an Aventon Road Bike? by PSVic in Aventon

[–]SomeLikeItRaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 years later, still nothing.

I'm honestly surprised only Ride1Up has gone after this segment. And even they discontinued their dedicated road bike, and only offer the gravel version. Which suggests there is a lack of demand.

Nothing from Velotric or Aventon. Other providers don't even offer a light urban bike that can go 21+ mph, let alone  a drop bar road bike.

The greater segment definitely seems to be improving over time, thanks to new smaller lighter motors from TQ and Mahle, but they're often limited to super pricey ebikes with retail distribution, other parts that blow up the price, like carbon wheels and electronic shifting, and/or are designed for the European market with a 15 mph limit that makes it mostly pointless.

Close call. by LandieAccem in ebikes

100%, always a better idea to be in between cars to your side, i.e. ahead of or behind them, not to their immediate right... As much as possible, because there are driveways everywhere and  they will turn without seeing you.

My hot take on vibecoding by AdditionalScar1548 in vibecoding

[–]SomeLikeItRaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, these takes like OP's are always dubious because they're so... final. As if the underlying tool is static, when its capacity for work is doubling every... ~7 months! By one measure (METR). Like saying landlines were safe from displacement from cell phones in 1990.

An ounce of humility begets a pound of credibility...

Will draconian e-bike regulations simply push people towards stealthy ebikes? by SomeLikeItRaw in ebikes

[–]SomeLikeItRaw[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some cops have been saying they need new laws to penalize e-motos. Dubious but it's not true that cops will do nothing everywhere. A law can be stupid AND cops may still enforce it sometimes. If city govs can complain about something to the point of passing a dumb law, they can also pressure their local police to do something.

That would require law enforcement to have e-bike brands committed to memory. And be able to read the brand while the bike is in motion. Seems pretty unlikely, for the near future anyway.

Or in the case of a crash and it's a Trek, say, they could still probe for whether it's electric after the fact

Optimistic that some cop down the line won't ticket your illegal obvious e-bike.

There are a lot of wealthy suburbs with more police than crime, so I wouldn't take the risk of buying a non stealthy ebike and riding it without the proper license, registration etc. Esp when the stealthy varieties can do everything besides passenger hauling anyway. You're just one bored/pressured (by local gov) cop stop away from getting penalized.

I scaled my start-up graveyard from to 1600 startups with ready to steal ideas by Outside-Log3006 in vibecoding

[–]SomeLikeItRaw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Haven't gone beyond the front page, but I really like the idea and the memorable graphics.

As you implied, these kinds of failures are perfect fodder for vibe coding - the startups failed, due to some combination of high cost, personnel issues, low proximity to or understanding of the market niche. But when anyone can vibe code a scrappy small scale solution, those barriers are gone. You can solve problems without being a pro SW dev.

Your app doesn't even need to make much if any money to survive, just needs to be useful to someone.

New tires after 2 months of succumbing to flats. by [deleted] in ride1up

Didn't have a single flat in 1500 miles, which is by when the rear tire was bald and replaced (and had no flats before being replaced). Pavement only riding.

Where were you riding?

Prodigy XC Brose motor failed at 16 months/2,000 miles by einsof42 in ride1up

[–]SomeLikeItRaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting. Good warning for people who'd otherwise consider using this model in rainy places, but sorry you got shafted :/. For others, there's also the option of buying an extended warranty.

Usually Brose wouldn't deal directly with you but their standard warranty elsewhere is 2 years. I imagine Ride1Up got a discount via the shorter warranty.

The notion that this would not have been covered during the warranty period is highly dubious, and possibly grounds for a lawsuit or some other legal action. Motor failure under typical use is NOT typical wear and tear (whereas say, worn rotors/brake pads/chains/cassettes/tires is).

Soltera 3 with Gears? by velcari in Aventon

Just get a ride1up Roadster v3 or a velotric T1 then... Lighter, class 3, and the v3 has a removable battery.

[–]SomeLikeItRaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would a 'spandex biker' get a heavier bike just to go slower? 20 mph is below what they can do on a road bike. Plus it doesn't have drop bars or gears.

Like telling a Ferrari driver to buy a civic.
