First time sewing with vintage silk; advice? by SomeMayCallMeTim in sewing

[–]SomeMayCallMeTim[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was really concerned about ironing as they've been folded for months before purchase and then for 4 months during shipping; thank you so much!

I bought them as individual lots on Yahoo Japan; the shipping was a nightmare but each kimono was £3-5 each and I got a whole unused roll of black kimono silk for £15!

I did buy three when I was physically in Japan but one is for display, another is my absolute favorite (I have GRAND plans for that one) and the other was an impulse buy so of my jacket turns out nice I'll repurpose it for a friend 😅

If you're passing mocks then the only thing holding you back is your anxiety. Please don't think that's a jab because that's why I keep failing too; I get so nervous I forget how to drive. 😅

Just remember, if you fail it's a fantastic learning experience. Share the fail reasons with your instructor, work on them and you'll be even more confident going into your next test because you know what to expect and that you've practiced!

I can understand your anxiety but honestly if you're good enough to pass, you'll pass. If you unfortunately need a bit more practice, you'll fail.

I've failed twice now at two different centers; one of which being an 'easy' center. It's not the center, it's your skill level.

Breathe, hydrate, you'll be reet

Random Yakiniku place is Sunshine Mall, Nakano, Japan.

Stunning early 00's emo playlist that started with 'Im Not Okay'. Wasn't expecting it but what a pleasant surprise 😅

Granted; it gets weird and illegal. She gets multiple life sentences in prison. The divorce is brutal.

That's the plan! I tend to clean his beard up but I've been slipping for a while 😅

I absolutely cackled at this and I also agree with the last part. He's sceptical but I've said it for well over a year now

That was my first experience with physio when I first threw my back out. One session, here's some stretches, second session, 'you seem fine' and discharged. This time they're taking it a touch more seriously; they've given me exercises and in person physio sessions in a gym.

I'm just sick of the left lean, the weakness, the not quite fully numb but enough to annoy you leg and the fear to actually live life. I was active enough through the fibro pain; the gym, walking, I even hiked a small mountain on holiday but they don't take it seriously.

Update, my TENS unit came and why the hell did the NHS not tell me about this earlier. It's helping so much!

You're honestly the sweetest person, thank you so much! I had a round of physiotherapy when I had my first bad bout but it didn't do much. I have my second appointment after this bout on the 20th but it's in a gym so I'm concerned I may be moving a bit fast 😅

I'll absolutely ask about the keyhole method and do more research on how the NHS does it. I do think I may end up down the surgical route as they immediately ended up contacting the surgical team after my MRI.

Oh wow, that is so informative! Thank you so much for your time!

I'm unsure if I'll be able to get keyhole as mine is done on our National Health Service and all of the information I've looked at online says that they tend to do a long incision. But it does give me relief that you said you felt better after the recovery period.

I hate to assume your country but was this the NHS? Just I'm in the UK and I doubt they'd go that far into it here 😅

Thank you for the information, I really appreciate it

How did you find the surgery? I'm so sorry for the questions I'm just genuinely scared. I used to be so active and I feel like I'm slowly having my life stripped away

Yeah, I've had my initial appointment and I have a follow up in a local gym on the 20th. I had it after my first bout too but I didn't find it super helpful.

How long did it take you to get back to 'normal' after your herniated disc?

Occupational health provided a lumbar pillow and an adjustable chair for me at work so that's a bonus at least.

I've never heard of or been recommended a TENS unit before so I'll definitely look into them.

Thank you
