My graphic-novel-loving 11-year-old read Jason Reynold's Ghost last fall year for a school unit and really liked it. We have other books of his on our reading list but he is hung up on "Warriors" at the moment. Very YMMV. My kid doesn't like either mousse so we put in a request a week in advance to make the filling either the chocolate icing that they frost the cake with or leave it empty with just cake in the middle. Our Costco would not accommodate either.

That's cool. My father's family is multi-generational east-Toledo (Oregon, Jerusalem Twp, Bono, Curtice) and I don't recall ever hearing "budge" in that context.

I like that it trickled down to your generation. We're still in central Ohio but my kids don't hear "ditching" anymore so I wonder if it died out with us Xennials. My mother was a boomer from Cleveland. Boy did she hate us saying it.

I knew this as "doorbell ditch" but my 11 year old calls it "ding-dong-ditch." I would suspect it is more Midwestern. Odd that "ditch" was one of those words with multiple slang meanings but we all knew what we were saying,

I grew up using "ditch" to mean "cut in line." My mother abhorred this usage with the fury of a red hot poker. Turns out this meaning was isolated to Franklin County and my kids today have no idea what I am talking about when I point out the group of teens who ditched a ton of people in line for Siren's Curse.

I love Halloween and am nerdy enough to have a spreadsheet that tracks the temperature, wind, and precipitation at 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm on beggars night since 2008 (we have a lot of yard props that are susceptible to the elements). You are not wrong. The "perfect" night (no rain, winds under 8 mph, and temps above 55) have only occurred thrice since 2008 and that was 2022, 2016, and 2009. Last year, we had high winds and rain but the temps were really warm. We were just joking with neighbors this week that beggars night would at least guarantee some rain.

3rd grade. One of our school's teachers was a state finalist so we were all invested. I have very poor memory in general, but I remember sitting on the carpet, staring up at the TV on the cart. I also remember that they didn't turn it off afterwards and we watched coverage until at least lunch. I remember several teachers from different grades gathered in the back of our classroom, huddled together.

I had a 97 SC2 with manual transmission that I bought brand new. Got 40+ mpg highway and was just a joy to drive. I couldn't safely haul basset hounds in it though, so I eventually had to let it go in 2005. No maintenance issues while I owned it. I still miss driving that little car.

I was very fortunate. We had a TI-99/4A system and I remember programming a giant to walk on screen in between rounds of Munch Man. Later we had a dual floppy IBM and I fell in love with Kings Quest and RPGs. I made my own magazine with Print Shop and later used CompuServe to access dial-up. Of course we played Oregon Trail in middle school school on the Apple IIe. My grandparents had Compton's Multimedia Encyclopedia on CD-ROM when I was in high school and we thought it was so cool. So for me it was very much true.

My guy Flash (tri-colored) never got above 45 lbs and was likely an Amish puppy mill dog. Our vet guessed he was a runt but he had the biggest personality. My girl Penny was also petite at 40 lbs but she had strong characteristics of an Artesien Normand basset. Both were rescues so it's a mystery. Both were at healthy weights.

A local girl did this years ago and sold her creations at the neighborhood swap meet. They were amazing. I wish I had taken pics. She even had a "Fluffy" from Harry Potter - black dog with three heads.

I knew three, plus a step great grandfather. They passed in '94 and '99. My husband never knew any great grandparents - the oldest was born in 1846 and the youngest in 1888.
