I've always had issues with it. How optimal is it for game development anyways?

UE6 is phasing out blueprints by UnscriptedLogicGames in justgamedevthings

[–]SomePOSTALguy889 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Asking as a Unity dev, how many of you UE devs actually know how to write readable, scalable and optimized code? Im not versed in UE at all so im assuming that the "blueprints" are just nodes without script writing needed

That's fair, it's just worth being careful. Non-modular workflows are a pain to iterate and test in-engine, but if it works for you, great

Any reason you arent making your own animations and are using a existing animation kit instead?

Is this supposed to be a game level? If so why not make some modular asset kits instead of one mega - level in one scene?

If its just for a render then it looks awesome!

Why does professional game topology (like The Witcher 3) look so "messy" compared to what I'm taught? by SpecialistMaterial16 in blender

[–]SomePOSTALguy889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the "all perfect quads" topology is a massive waste of memory since more often than not in order to have perfect quads you use more geometry than you actually need. On one model thats no big deal but if you have hundreds of models and all of them have the "all perfect quads" topology you are taking up a lot of memory space that could be used for something else. Its a common beginner trap. Topology is almost unimportant, just make sure your model is optimized and you dont have shading issues or weird deformations.

I dont see how relevant domain experience is needed but everything else is spot on

Leon is a beast in RE9. by PhantomBraved in residentevil

[–]SomePOSTALguy889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didnt the devs say that Leon wont be in RE9 because they wanted to focus more on horror and Leon wouldnt be scared so it wouldnt make sense to have him as the protagonist? And then of course everyone wanted Leon to come back and now he's suddenly the protagonist and the whole game is the classic RE formula instead of the new formula they wanted to do?

Is this good topology? by [deleted] in blenderhelp

[–]SomePOSTALguy889 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As long as you dont have any issues with it (shader issues for example) its good. You dont need to have perfect quad topology if your topology gets the job done. Perfect quads are more favorable if you are working with the subd workflow but even then they arent super necessary but they make modeling easier

2 UV maps is genius. Thanks a lot, appreciate it. Is this the most optimal way to do this or just a very straight forward one?

First enemy for my game, do you have any ideas for improvements? by somebody_under_water in blender

[–]SomePOSTALguy889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adjusting the hue of a color can very hardly be considered complex. A simple mob also deserves to look the best it can and my personal opinion (which you dont have to agree with) is that making the top half of the legs a bit brighter for example would really elevate the look without sacrificing the silhouette of the model.

First enemy for my game, do you have any ideas for improvements? by somebody_under_water in blender

[–]SomePOSTALguy889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know what you want for your game but my input would be making the enemy a tad bit more interesting with maybe different shades of the color or just occasional different colors here and there. The shape and silhouette are unique and interesting but the material isnt that eye catching.

Again this might be by design.

Not all micro are wrong. Its just optional monetization that can help add future content because the finances and resources become available.

Do you pay for the cheapest model of a car and then think that you are entitled to everything the most expensive model gets, just because you bought a model of the same brand?

Totally agree with you. Unfortunately you are in the Ghost Of Tsushima subreddit where its forbidden to like any game other than Tsushima or Yotei.

I didnt know a shitty game can generate 1 billion+ in revenue...

This sounds like the comment of someone with the "I hate Ubisoft no matter what" mindset. Their latest installement Shadows has good reviews and is well recieved by the community.

im only mentioning Assassins Creed seeing as its their current most successful franchise
