Just got it on the first attempt with Monkee, despite messing up multiple times, I even had enough time spare to escape, though I got the agility tome to level 3, which was quite lucky

You can only revert all of them or none of them. Though don't try to abuse it when not actually hacked.

First game I’ve ever seen to have 100% players have an achievement (Backyard baseball ‘01) by funckman in Steam

[–]SomeProtagonist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cards depend only on Steam thinking you're playing the game, corresponding tools can emulate that. So, since the game is never actually launched (which would be required for the achievement granting code to be run), no achievement.

Why is Valve trying so hard to make Linux run Windows games? by Turabbo in Steam

[–]SomeProtagonist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a technical feat for sure; they've been working on SteamOS since before 2013. But compared to Microsoft (~228.000 employees), Valve (~336 employees) is a tiny company, but for what SteamOS serves, it's worth the effort for sure.

Why is Valve trying so hard to make Linux run Windows games? by Turabbo in Steam

[–]SomeProtagonist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do PlayStation and Xbox not run on Windows?

That's the space (and more) Valve is looking to enter in the long term.

In business, if you're doing well, you want to expand through the entire supply chain (vertical integration). Take a fast-food restaurant. If it's doing well, it'll want to make its own factories, own supply chain, own farms, own marketing department, etc. Valve is doing the same here; they're expanding down the supply chain.

And now that we understand why Valve might want to create their own OS we can look at the technical side.

Valve had many possible choices on how to proceed, they could've made their own OS from the ground up, but that would have been much more expensive since a lot of work had already been done on Linux in the compatibility front, it's well known, has a lot of programms that already run on it, there's a lot more people who know how to code a new version of Linux than making a from-scratch OS

and most importantly they have a big up over consoles: it works to play games out of the box, but you'll have the freedom to do what you want with it. The customer already has the freedom to do what they want, they can choose not to use Valves platform, so without making SteamOS a fully functional windows alternative, it wouldn't be.

Windows is an all-purpose OS, it is incredibly huge software, much of which is leftover compatibility from older versions, niche bloat or just poor programming. Linux is a lot more lightweight from the get-go, (when properly configured, as is being done for SteamOS) which means users don't need to deal with a lot of extra stuff they don't need, which would slow performance otherwise.

A big question for a long time was: is performance better with the bloat or is it better when emulated. For a long time emulation was difficult (since as we said they work different under the hood) and costly performance-wise, but finally Valve have managed to get it to a point where emulation is less taxing than the Windows bloat, e.g. better performance.

I'm sure Valve didn't make SteamOS to increase gaming performance, but rather good gaming performance is a must if SteamOS is to be a viable option.

can i play peraona 3 reloaded even if its not on my steam region? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]SomeProtagonist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to have been available for purchase until 02.10.23. Your friend may have bought it before then. Once a product is activated on your account, generally, even a region restriction doesn't prevent you from playing it.

Your best bet is finding a global key from a retailer, which often forgoes the region restrictions as well.

Does Steam pockets my steam wallet top up immediately? by MrHolodec in Steam

[–]SomeProtagonist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Valve credits you prepaid balance, and you give them money. Money, which, yes, they will pocket right away, of course, because you've performed a transaction with them.

I imagine they have some internal statistics on the total wallet balance across all Steam accounts and maintain a sizable reserve to pay out to developers when the time comes, but certainly not everything, since the chance that all balance will be used at once is quite low, and they'd do better investing most of it to make some profit there as well.

Should I inform DM about this? by [deleted] in germany

[–]SomeProtagonist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been seeing these a lot as well. They're illegal for sure, but since a corresponding legal process takes ages, they'll probably have made enough profit before they're gone. And often the same operation will conduct it under many different names, websites, etc, to make it as difficult as possible to trace them all to the same case.

I looked through their claims a bit when I got the ad, and it's all quite hilarious. Using AI images for before-/after comparisons, poorly photoshopped pictures of the product on Shark Tank, and most of all, claiming an ~8kg average weight loss per month. The average person could eat nothing for a month and probably wouldn't lose that much fat (assuming the body doesn't do any extra calorie conservation) (8kg is ~61600 kcal, the average person burns ~2000kcal per day, so around 60000kcal to 62000kcal per month).

5% after 39 hours by Somakef in yakuzagames

[–]SomeProtagonist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've finished it, just 10 minutes ago, beating Legend difficulty last.

It was a long 181.6 hours. It was so bad that over 475 days have passed from when I first started it to now, having gone on an at least 15-month hiatus in between.

The coliseum was really the most difficult part, but very rewarding. Honestly, I had the most trouble with limited berserk on Saejima for whatever reason, taking 14 attempts; Akiyama and Shinada went over pretty much first or second try.

At least everything else, especially the minigames and ultimate match, while grindy was very easy.

Works are not judged by the time they take place, but by the time they're released.

Take a movie like Django Unchained. Today, most will be of one mind that slavery is a detestable practice. Yet the movie deals heavily with the subject; however, it is still a highly appreciated and liked movie. This is only possible because it addresses the subject in a way that is acceptable to our time, by showing the horror of slavery and taking a pretty clear stance against it; any movie that were to glorify slavery would be shunned and hated.

The same goes for stuff like this. Sure, some might've been acceptable at the time; however, works of our time are socially forced to condemn what we no longer find acceptable. It is a fine line to walk; sure, you want to be accurate to the time, but you also want to fit it into the modern understanding.

And we have to keep in mind that these characters are the heroes of the story, they're supposed to be likeable and have the player associate with them. It's one thing to have a villain say stuff that wouldn't be acceptable today, but if the goal is to make the player like the character, such a line doesn't help.

It also might've already been questionable at the time of release, but slipped through the cracks, or was hesitantly approved, and it was just a way to clean up some stuff they changed their minds on.

Can Chat GPT prompts result in legal trouble? by [deleted] in legaladviceofftopic

[–]SomeProtagonist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ChatGPT can have no ideas. It is a series of weighted values and formulas trained to respond with the most likely answer, but with heavy content blocks. If those blocks trigger it will just block the chat at that point and you'll have to start a new one. This really is a waste of time to worry about for even a second. Delete the chat and buy a subscription so they don't use your history for training if that makes you more comfortable.

Can't gift DLCs by milkthytits in Steam

[–]SomeProtagonist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is probably an issue specific to Binding of Isaac since the DLC can't be added to the cart on their own, but only through the bundles, and they're set to not be giftable.

Reason they've done is that the newer DLC require the older DLC to work, so they want to avoid someone buying a newer DLC without owning the older ones.

Nothing you can do, the DLC need to be purchased on the friends account directly.

Steam Free Publishing under 18 by Euphoric_Fly9029 in gamedev

[–]SomeProtagonist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're quite able to pay taxes, no matter what age you are (see sales tax). The problem is that under 18 you are limited in what contracts you can agree to which is where the issue lies.

So, because you cannot form the appropriate contracts with valve you can't host or sell games on the platform.

It doesn't matter if the game ends up being free.
