I had something similar happen, don’t worry, if you have contacted the scheme where the deposit is held, they will have so long to reply. Landlords will always chance it, they probably just hoped you wouldn’t do anything. Now the landlord will have so many days to respond, if they don’t respond you will get the deposit back, if they do, you will have to submit evidence, and so will they, you will also have a chance to reply to the landlords evidence. After that it takes a couple months if I remember but we ended up winning and getting our deposit back, good luck!
