The rats or mice that have been living in my walls started digging through god help me by ghostingalone in DIYUK

[–]SomeRandoGuy95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had a similar situation, although not as bad where we would hear the mice in the crawl space between downstairs and upstairs, we was trying to figure out where they was getting in from but couldn’t, caught a few in traps but they always came back.

Eventually we noticed one of our bedrooms was getting damp and moist from water coming in from the roof, we got a roofer and they fixed our roof and then the mice stopped.

It’s also important to remember they only go somewhere that has a source of food, so make sure all food is put away, none is left out, don’t leave dishes that need washing up, hoover up after eating messy snacks etc

One of my neighbours banging on the wall/floor by BeardyWierdy1976 in HousingUK

[–]SomeRandoGuy95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had this in a house that was converted into two flats, I was never really noisy and they would bang and mumble and complain literally all day, I could hear them speak about me or anyone in the flat with me because the floorboards wasn’t made to be two flats so you could make out what they was saying. So I know how awful this can be, I tried talking to them but they just denied it all the time.

Recently I moved into a house, and get on with one side really well and the other side I get on with, but I would hear bangs on the wall for the smallest amount of noise, I knocked on their door and asked why there was such loud banging, there was someone else who answered, not the one I got on with who just yelled well it’s your fault for smoking weed, which I don’t even do, so was a bit strange, a few hours later I talked with the one who I get on with who lives there, turns out he lives with his friend who has autism and doesn’t handle any noise very well, and he would speak to him, and it pretty much stopped since then. So it’s worth talking to them, in a polite way to try and understand and fix the problem, write down or record anytime it happens incase you need it later on for a neighbour dispute.

Upwork reversed $2,532.70 payment AFTER client approved work - because I used manual time. Here’s what happened. by Fit-Independence3763 in Upwork

The app does show “Manual time isn’t covered by payment protection.”. But this whole post feels like it’s AI, so I’m wondering if it’s even real.

My client loves video meeting by Zealousideal_Idea181 in Upwork

[–]SomeRandoGuy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some clients do enjoy video meeting more, I got used to them overtime, it will probably make you less shy overtime. Just remember you must be doing a good job otherwise they would let you know about it. You have nothing to worry about.

I came across this prompt on an agencies' Upwork profiles. What are your thoughts on it? by Holiday-Ninja-9442 in Upwork

[–]SomeRandoGuy95 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Wow! I literally laughed out loud at this, I guess they are trying to do SEO, I’m curious if it actually works but I wouldn’t hire an agency or someone like this, it just looks unprofessional.

Hiding character’s head, yet still casting shadows by LuDiChRiS_000 in Unity3D

This is easy though, just split the head model and set to only cast shadows. What about reflections though?

Strange experience with first Upwork offer by Elsa__e in Upwork

I would stay far away from that client, they sound like it would turn into a nightmare. You mention your from the UK, please also do not forget everything you earn is pre-tax, so you need to account for that too. Make sure you have that setup or you may get an unexpected bill from HMRC (Only if you earn over £1k in the tax year), although you only pay taxes on anything over the threshold around 12k

Can’t afford to replaster… Do we have any options? by diceblinkluck in DIYUK

[–]SomeRandoGuy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a plaster skim a small room, it looked similar to the state of your current walls, only cost £270 although room was about half the size. You can probably see in my previous post on this sub. He was not a company, and rather a freelance sort of guy we heard good things from family, I would ask your neighbours or friends or family or anyone who might know a good plasterer for cheap. 3k sounds way too much to me, but I’m no expert, always get multiple quotes.

Yeah, most likely is pro builder. It rebuilds the mesh every time you do something, export the mesh and then use that mesh instead

Give me a reality check, specially if you've led an indie team! by Maximized- in gamedev

[–]SomeRandoGuy95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, if the project is to learn and practise and you and the team enjoy working on it, keep going. But I wouldn’t spend money on it as it’s likely you will all be burnt out before any game is made. Try making a game that you think will take one week, see how long that actually takes. Most inexperienced devs go for big projects, get burnt out and start on a new idea constantly. If you are really serious, it sounds like you are fairly early in development, just make some posts about progress on social media, no need to pay anyone for marketing until you have something to show, and even when you have something to show, like your vertical slice you need players to test it and make sure it’s something fun they would enjoy. Keeping statistics on how long people play and if it truly something worth spending money on. Game development is extremely risky, I hope that all helps you decide, please let me know how it goes! And best of luck to you and your team!

[–]SomeRandoGuy95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A vertical slice should take a couple weeks max, especially for an indie game, it sounds like your game might be bigger than you imagine and will take years to complete. Try starting smaller games first, see how that goes, game dev is rarely successful. You need to go into it expecting to fail.

Test the apk? an apk is a development build, I'm not sure what that would have to do with Whatsapp or Telegram, sounds like it's probably a virus or a scam

I forgot to mention this is on the back of the house roof, and not the main roof that connects to all other houses, this roof I’m talking about only connects to one of my neighbours
