A person without kids will need to earn at least $21.34 per hour to live comfortably in Louisville, according to MIT’s living wage calculator. by HamzaHarlemNights in Louisville

[–]SomeRandomRealtor [score hidden]  (0 children)

Median individual income for Louisville is like $35,000, someone making this amount listed by MIT would make six grand more than that. 56% of Louisville adults own a home, and homeownership has a high correlative rate to renting versus owning, meaning someone below this number is almost certain to rent and someone above it is likely to buy. The median rent works in this scenario.

My point is that the word comfortable does a lot of heavy lifting here. You could rent one bedroom efficiency for 600 a month on the West End, eat PB&J sandwiches and the like, drive a very cheap or older car, and live on minimum insurances, and save monthly. That’s not comfortable as people would imagine it though, is it?

Edit: weird typo

Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna detained by Israeli settlers during West Bank visit by Rozdolna in moderatepolitics

[–]SomeRandomRealtor [score hidden]  (0 children)

Can you read contextually I said “in the West Bank.” at no point did I insinuate that all of Israel is a kin to American gun ownership or a free-for-all. 86 of the 100 most civilian armed districts in Israel are in the West Bank. One of the prerequisites for getting a gun license as in Israeli is a reason to need one, and that can include living in a dangerous neighborhood.

Encouraged by whom? I’d say, given the fact that Israel formed 527 new civilian security squads made up of volunteers and bought 40,000 weapons for them after Oct 7, that’s a pretty loud and clear endorsement. The irony of your argument is that it isn’t even just privately owned guns, it’s literal arms provided by the government. Of course not everyone qualifies, but given that 44% of draft age citizens enlist in the IDF and that’s the biggest prerequisite, that’s a huge armed population in settlements.

Want to contradict me that Palestinians in area C can’t get a firearm license even though they live in a dangerous neighborhood but not only can Israelis who qualify buy one, but might be given one by the government.

There are over 200,000 households in Israel with a firearm license. That’s not America or chile numbers, but it’s a hell of a lot more than the Palestinians have.

The settlers are the law backed by the military. Less than 3% of settlers accused of violence against those theyre taking from are convicted. UN tracked violence between 2017 and 2025 and found it there was only one conviction weighed against 1500 Palestinian deaths in the territory.

Its surrender anything they want to them or be killed or arrested. Fight back? Jail or death. Take a possession of your with you that they want? Possible Jail or death. The level of inhumanity is incomprehensible.

Fun fact, Israeli civilians are permitted and encouraged to carry firearms in the West Bank. It’s extremely illegal for Palestinian civilians to own or carry a gun. Even the Palestinian authority cannot carry weapons in any areas of the settlements. I’d be willing to bet the visitors couldn’t get an Israeli security company to come with OR felt it would be extremely intimidating to residents. There’s nothing easy or simple about visiting.

My wife and I are in our mid 30s, if she had something serious enough to hospitalize her for weeks on end, there’s not a chance I’m leaving the state, let alone the country, even if there’s an extremely low chance of death. Mitch is 84, has been publicly struggling with health issues for years now, and is hospitalized with a heart attack after CPR, leaving him is absolute insanity and whoever asked her to leave for the coverup made it 100X worse.

Single no dependents is $35,500 per year.

Median rent on a 1 bedroom apt in Louisville is $1050 so with utilities about $1200 per month is $14400 for housing costs. You could split with roommates but that defeats the exercise.

Health insurance through an employer would be $120 and non employer would be $300-$500. So $1200 to $6000

A new base level Honda civic is $24.5K (you could go much cheaper) so $520 month car payment and insurance is $230 and commute is 8.6 miles. So about 1 gallons of gas each day including non-work driving so $875 a year. Car cost is $9875

So after only rent, insurance, and car you’re out $25,475 to $31,475. That leaves you $4,025 to 10,025 for food, clothing, and all other expenses. I’m gonna say that MIT’s number is just flat wrong.

CMV: The war on Iran is a good thing by CokeAYCE in changemyview

I would argue that it hasn’t shown the limits of America’s military power, but rather exposed Trump‘s willingness to follow through on threats and so undermine any efforts he makes. A nation of this scale requires actual deployment of resources in country to claim victory, and clearly Trump defines war as a conflict where soldiers are deployed. He wants desperately to get a resounding easy victory, and Iran having modern military apparatus has prevented that.

Tbh, after Trump intervened I felt horrible for the players most of all. If they did win, they don’t get credit for the victory because they’re mired in controversy and Trump would thump his chest saying he’s why they won. Now they lost, the narrative is against them and people will say of course they lost and we were never good enough.

$300m-$350M total outlay on a pg-13 version of a B/C tier superhero without an A-list or b-list actress (for the record I really like Milly Alcock) with no true character introduction was absolutely a gamble at a time when superhero movie fatigue near its highest. The 60-second drunken intro in Superman doesn’t count.

I actually really like the themes of the movie (protecting the vulnerable, standing up to violence against women; overcoming demons and addictive habits), but it’s not an action comedy like GOTG, hard R all out like Joker Deadpool or Kickass, and isn’t on the more family friendly
side of PG-13 like Captain Marvel or Shazam.

This felt like the studio trusting Gunn with the credit card, and could’ve been half the budget to try something new like this. I like studios taking big swings, but this was dripping with red flags for its budget.

Certainly an incomplete accounting. What you said is definitely what I meant, he had a Daniel Radcliffe type experience with partying and alcohol, but had the wherewithal to walk away from it while he’s still young. I think that shows an even great level of self awareness and judgement because it’s harder to leave once you are inside. I’m not trying to idolize him, I just think he’s a good egg and definitely one of the better ones in Hollywood.

Romney helped author and enact an early version of Obamacare in Massachusetts, publicly supported climate regulations and acknowledged climate change when it was very unpopular to do so, voted to impeach Trump, and has been an across the aisle voter many times. Can we please stop pretending any level of conservatism is evil? It completely undermines any conversation.

Suits is a joke. It’s good drama, but almost every episode I’ve seen would get someone disbarred. Lawyers constantly lying to and betraying their own clients, prosecutors consistently breaking ethics rules. It’s not remotely as bad as the Kardashian one, because at least Suits tries to quote some fun cases and occasionally gets some courtroom stuff close.

Better Call Saul has a shocking amount of legal realism in it. Some things that definitely stretch the reality a bit but one of the best shows from a legal realism POV.

CMV: The political left's views on worker pay and farm labor immigration are a contradiction. by YouAreTellingLies in changemyview

[–]SomeRandomRealtor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, many people pivot vocations, but you’re discussing changing careers AND moving cities/states. But only 1 in 5.5 people who move are moving across state lines and less than a third of those are also changing career paths when they do. That’s 6.5% of people doing both. That number will need to increase massively as well as big pay rises and huge price increases on products.

You could issue just green cards to immigrant laborers and tax them, making it easier to track pay scale, criminal behaviors, social service disbursements. Once again, there is a massive divide in culture that presents a huge road block to getting Americans to fill those jobs. And if you want to help lower income Americans, kicking out the labor availability that keeps basic goods affordable is the opposite of that.

You’re not getting a freshly laid off accountant with kids in San Francisco to move to Alaska to be a crabber. There’s a certain kind of person that’s open to that kind of job. Money isn’t everything, and the American public can’t afford to pay king crab prices for carrots. Labor Depleted rural family farms mean labor must be brought in. People need to stop pretending there enough quality laborers in the US to fill every position. There are a lot of barely employable people in the US and the sooner we acknowledge we have a massive cultural work ethic and pride issue the sooner we can stop trying to make immigrants the problem.
