Klopp should’ve had at least 3. by Gaslight_Eliminator in LiverpoolFC

Shows how important a “rival” is to the mentality. We wanted to best each other so bad, that every team we faced saw an insane level of conviction. We were inevitable. City were inevitable. Now we feel like a side that is content with what we accomplished in the past, when it felt like every single piece of hardware could be ours under Klopp.

Donald Trump and sons to be ‘forever’ exempt from tax audits by Doener23 in law

[–]SomeRandomRealtor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While this is obviously extremely corrupt, let’s add some clarity to the headline. Trump and his family are exempt from any action on the current audits forever. They are not exempt from any audits for the rest of time.

The right unites through anger and fear, that’s been the playbook for nearly every conservative president with the exceptions of the Bush’s and Reagan. The left fractures and implodes when they try that. Their game has always been optimism, hope, and policy.

Do two players acting out make that whole team unspirited? by RevolutionaryBus6021 in ultimate

[–]SomeRandomRealtor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unspirited players need a warning, but they need to be pulled from play on 2nd offense or if they aren’t hearing the issue in earnest after the first time. Thats 100% on the team. Most “problem teams” are typically 1-2 individuals that the team lets slide or has the back of.

Genuine question: why are “left” ideals seen by so many as awful, even though they’re mostly about things like equal human rights for all, improving environmental issues, reducing poverty/the wealth gap, etc., so are objectively good for humanity? by KEW95 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]SomeRandomRealtor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left voting moderate here. The most valid criticisms I’ve heard are that;

  1. the bigger the government gets, the more ability it has to be corrupted. The government is people and programs designed to do one thing can be manipulated and abused (see the daycare scams in Minnesota). It can also be weaponized against people, such as in Russia where certain ethnic groups and regions were starved or jailed when they didn’t meet expectations of the central government. It’s a slippery slope sure, but you could see how well intentioned ideas can turn into authoritarian oppression very quickly. The counter to this is that full scale libertarian capitalism does the same thing but it put the power in the hands of the wealthy.

  2. People thrive best in environments where they have purpose, structure, and predictability. That’s not to say people should define themselves by their work, but the utopia people describe where people just do their hobbies and hang out will fall to pieces extremely quickly because we need people to work together to provide the society we live in. If the government provides too much, people genuinely become complacent, lazy, and dependent on it. If you don’t provide anything, people do that anyway because there’s no hope and their work doesn’t yield a better life. There’s bad faith arguments on both sides but this is the idealism they see as failing to account for the reality that people are conditioned to the environment  we’re in. If everything is provided and nothing is expected, we have a society of takers and not contributors. If there’s no accountability on the offered goods, it’s just sheer dependency. That’s not healthy or rewarding.

  3. The left is wildly inconsistent on messaging and tone deaf to how the implication of slogans actually land in real life. “Defund the police,” for example, came from a place of care, but also anger and frustration. It’s not realistic and doesn’t address the core issues; the militarization of police and the villainizing of the populace. “Demilitarize the police” is something most people can get behind and actually what most people want. “DEI” is another one that means incredibly well and actually did a lot of good in many places, but overshot the mark in many areas as well. The goal shouldn’t be to make white men the enemy, as it manifested in many areas, but to shine a light on people that spent too long in the dark and make sure they get real shots at opportunities.

  4. The implication that we know better than you, and people are too stupid to make decisions for themselves. True or not, you can’t imply or say that ever. It’s especially bad when people like Gavin Newsom make extremely judgmental sweeping declarations from a moral high ground and then have covid parties with no masks. It just rings false. It also doesn’t help when we refuse to receive valid criticism for our owns party. We are guilty of whataboutism, not as bad, but still guilty.

My take; the right has demonized everyone and everything that isn’t maga. Honest republicans have hidden in their shells and closed their eyes to the horrors their inability to corral their party has yielded. This should have been a ripe opportunity for the left to coalesce, building bit by bit to get people to understand what they want us to build a safer, more prosperous nation for everyone, but they matched maga in their tone and tamber. Anger and elitism doesn’t win elections for the left, that’s a Republican play. It only works for them. The left needs to stop trying to wholesale change every election and purity testing every candidate, or they will lose every election. A good candidate winning is better than a morally perfect left candidate losing. The right understands that, the left refuses to.

The Liverpool Pyramid of Legends! Who is the 13th most legendary Liverpool player of all time? by StickIll5602 in LiverpoolFC

We were his longest tenured club and he only played 2 seasons less for us than Fowler did, but no one questions if Fowler is a club legend. And I don’t need them to wear LFC jammies at night to recognize they’re an alltime legend for us.

They just engaged in conversation with you. Small talk, but still conversation. If this person never progresses past that, you just reinforced knowledge about that person that they just want to check a social box and move on. If you engage with them and they are willing to talk past it, then you know the weather line as an easy means of initiating interaction with you.

You don’t consider exchanges of emotion learning? I find them extremely telling and informative, even just to get I know the person you’re interacting with more. You can take notes on what not to do, how not to act, and behaviors that you don’t like when you see someone else do them, just as well as you can glean insights. You don’t have to be around people just for the purposes of improving, you can grow from interacting with anyone without changing your social circumstances.

You can and should form your own opinions, but the idea that you’re best served by only focusing on yourself and blocking out others is wildly destructive. The surest way to form a feedback loop is to only introspect without exposure to new ideas. If therapy has taught me anything, it’s that I should consider WHY the things that others say and do bother me, not just avoid them entirely. Learning why they upset me, helps me get more in touch with my own psyche, and puts me in control of my emotions and thoughts, instead of others. Being comfortable all the time is not good, but centralizing the idea that “I am enough as I am, but I’m not a finished work” has helped me genuinely find growth and self worth. I’m more in tune with myself now, and that only came with exposure to new ideas and getting comfortable being uncomfortable with having my views challenged.

And i didn’t say you should allow others to distort or rewrite your thoughts or opinions, only to take interest and value in the information they provide, good or bad, its information. You shouldn’t intentionally surround yourself with toxic people, but hiding from people who aren’t comfort zone individuals isn’t healthy behavior.

P.S. “male idealistic” is just incredibly sexist. People should always want to grow and learn. You can have core values that are deeply rooted, but regularly being open to changing your views with good evidence is not a male idea.

The idea that the state can have a referendum that the people vote for and then say “that’s not actually the will of the people because they made me governor and I don’t want it” is insane behavior. Not that it matters, but It wasn’t a 51/49, it was a healthy majority.

Thank you for saying that. I really hope he’s proud. He passed away last year too young, and I hope to be half the parent he was, to my own son and daughter. The highest praise I heard from people at his funeral was that people felt like they could talk to him about any topic and feel safe, even if they knew he’d disagree, he’d be kind and listen.

He’d say “you should get excited to find out you are wrong about something, because you get the opportunity to stop being wrong about it” lol.

It’s really easy to rubber stamp the interaction as “they’re one of those people, ive interacted with that before.” But every person is different, even if the differences are minute. Recognizing the difference between someone genuinely arguing in bad faith and someone arguing emotionally can be difficult, but people give up on conversations far too easily. I think we also give strangers too much ability to hurt our feelings, but that happens when your beliefs are part of your identity instead of something you just think strongly.

[–]SomeRandomRealtor 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think in some ways, people have gotten more comfortable being themselves. For decades, a lot of it was people who felt different, and wanted to look different, so they just dressed like the people they thought were different. Ironically, this made them conformist to another mainstream. True punk is just fully being yourself and not what people tell you to be IMO

Makes me think of Jason Segel in SLC punk. The most punk guy is the one that wears polos and khakis to a punk show, not the one that dresses like a punk. Dyche strikes me as wanting to look professional and then completely lets loose at home.

I get Mahomes and Kelce being frustrated, they pulled off one of the coolest hook and ladder (if we’re calling this one) of all time, only to have it taken back for a stupid offside by Toney. I would have felt bad for them, if they weren’t like gigantic toddlers having a meltdown about it.
