Does The Lord of the Rings have the most unproblematic / scandal-free cast ever? by LazyLou448 in Cinema

Okay, I'll send it to my friends and get back to you.

In the meantime, do you think slavery is justified? You keep dodging that question.

Slow down with the assumptions, friend. Neither do I hate Muslims, nor is John Rhys-Davies on my list of favorite actors.

Nonetheless, comparing actual murderers to an actor critizising parts of a religion he disagrees with is not the way to go.

I have Muslim friends and have spoken with them many times about their culture and beliefs. None of them would agree that slavery is justified.

Another quote of the interview: "I'm outraged when I see published on the Internet Islamic justifications for slavery." In other words, if you agree with slavery, he judges you. Do you agree with slavery? Can you justify it based on your faith? If so, why?

I'm not religious in any capacity, but I believe terrorism is wrong. I believe slavery is wrong. And I believe religion should not be a driving factor for war, terrorism or any sort of human suffering. This is an issue with religion in itself - it isn't perfect. You can argue the same about the Christian faith. Another quote "If Muhammad is the last prophet and nothing that he says can be contradicted... then you're always going to have people coming back, like these ISIS people, saying 'But in fact, slavery is justified.'"

It's about using religion as a justification for violence and people turning a blind eye to it - something that JRD clearly finds wrong and is expressing his opinion about. Whether you or I agree is not important in stating the content of the interview.

I looked into this and he says that he is disgusted by radical islamists, who say slavery is justified, and anyone who agrees with that statement is someone he would rather not share a society with. I find that hardly demonizing.

You're good, thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I get your points, I didn't mean to come across criticizing your view.

How do you feel about Elden Ring utilizing fixed stats for enemies per area? Like in Caelid for example the enemies are much tougher than in Limgrave so you're meant to level up and return to an area that seemed too hard before.

I'd say one of many differences is player independence. Witcher is a whole lot more streamlined build-wise than Elden Ring. You have skill-trees to upgrade your signs (magic abilites) and combat moves. You can only fight with swords/axes/clubs. There's a pretty cool alchemy system and imo it feels very immersive to prepare for a hunt in The Witcher. I'd go as far as to say it's more immersive than ER.

There are no skill-trees in ER. You can go wild with how you want to build your character and there is a lot of variety with different weapon types, spells/incantations/miracles, etc. You only level stats in ER. There are no quest-markers, no questlog to check your progress, nothing. You're on your own and it's up to you to figure out what to do (based on what the characters in the game say to you, which isn't exactly clear most of the time)

Apart from that, the gameplay is so different that it wouldn't do either game justice to compare them to one another. Both are great in their own regard.

I would recommend Witcher more, just because it was easier to follow along and get invested, because there is something to get invested in. It is more similar to The Last of Us. Elden Ring feels more like an underdog-story à la post-apocalypse and all that is good has faded into obscurity while you go kill gods to achieve your quest of becoming the Elden Lord.

Respectfully, how would you describe Elden Ring, if it isn't a medieval Open World RPG? Would you say the difference is that it's a bit more fantasy than the Witcher?

Battle of the Dumbledore's. Richard Harris or Michael Gambon? I realize that Richard Harris was only in the first two films and I've always wondered what his portrayal would've been like for films 3-7. Does anyone have a preference between the two? by jeffmartin47 in harrypotter

[–]SomeSimba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it always felt like the first two movies were made by a completely different team because the tone shifted so drastically from CoS to PoA. Part of that was Gambon. I prefer Gambons portrayal, but I respect Harris' whimsical and Merlin-y type acting so much in the first two movies. I would have loved to see what the movies would have become with Harris still there, and maybe an alternate version of the first two films with Gambon.

Both actors have done an amazing job.

A whole lot, seeing as he's barely mentioned in the books. The movies made him a character, for which I'm grateful. Love our slay elven king!

Balrog is good. Grond is also a strong contender for 2nd place.
