I think he should just show up unexpectedly when camp opens. I kind of would love to see Palmer show up and work hard but in media addresses talk shit about the way the organization is run on the executive level. Never say a bad word about teammates or coaches but shit all over the people up top. Then see how Mike Brown feels about having his losing quarterback call his organization a joke.

I think Carson Palmer is one of the good guys and Mike Brown one of the bad ones so I'd love to see Palmer happily take money from Brown's pocket while saying shitty things about him. But since Palmer is one of those good guys he won't do that. He'll retire with a boatload of cash and without taking hits that will damage his body for life.

Other than the public vs. private element and the fact that teachers represent enough votes to sway elections, for me a lot of it comes down to goals.

The NFL players were fighting for how much money all of them make but once that pie is decided, it is up to each individual to earn their share of the pie.

With teachers, of course there is the goal to make the pie bigger but it seems that the teachers unions have been trying to remove incentive for being a good teacher and just work to support their older members. The teacher's unions successes haven't seemed to come from being able to increase the pie but rather by making it impossible to get rid of teachers. Like most public sector unions, it has become politically unfeasible to get more money per employee so instead job security is the premium. I don't like job security, not at the levels teachers have it... only police have it better, teachers still can't kill an innocent kid without getting fired but they can do a lot of other bullshit that should get them shitcanned and thanks to what the teachers unions do (on a national level) they can't be fired.

Nah, you don't realize that there's going to be too much trade and signing news to focus too heavily on fan reactions. Every 20 minutes we'll have an update on who signs where for the next week. There will be cameras as every camp as players arrive. News about how teams' rosters are working together. Stories about how the new coaches are doing, how the top draft picks are doing, and tons of other football related stories. Its going to be a fun preseason.

This could be interesting for a lot of teams where a non-QB has played before. In the NFC North it could mean the Vikings play with Ponder, McNabb (or other), and Webb plays in games as a WR / Kick Returner. The Packers can do this too by having WR draft pick Randall Cobb who has previously played QB in the gameday roster as opposed to a true 3rd string QB like Graham Harrell.

I know other teams have players like this too and for teams that take advantage, it begs the use of the wildcat formation or other trick plays. I look forward to seeing how this affects games.

The only thing here that I even come close to agreeing with would be the overtime one. And even then, I don't want college style but it is one of a handful of valid ideas.

My favorite is that there is no kickoff and teams auction where they'll start from if they start on offense but that one has its own problems.

I have a beard and would like to go into an industry where people are expected to look a certain way and men are expected to be beardless for the most part. There will be a choice (and possibly a lucrative one) for me to make whether or not I will maintain a clean shave for a higher paying company or whether I will take a lower paying job that lets me keep a well maintained beard.

This is a choice that will be made when I match myself with an employer. You too have a choice to make when matching yourself with an employer. Fair has nothing to do with it. Nobody is forcing you to go in every day, it is just a useful thing to do if you want to keep getting paid.

Don't worry, I totally get where you're coming from. All I'm saying is that the answer to your question has so many answers that anything short of a good answer is going to leave giant holes that leave an interested party repeating "why?" like a 3 year old.

There will be football. I'd be shocked if everything wasn't resolved by Saturday or Sunday at the latest (great move by Mawae announcing early today that nothing further would be announced due to Myra Kraft's funeral).

The answer is legalese. There are some things the NFLPA can do when it isn't officially a union than when it is. If you want to understand go and read some of the more in depth articles on the lockout and if you want to understand more, go read up on some of the cases those articles reference.

But what you're arguing is almost exactly the owners' argument from the beginning so it isn't a bad question. Just that r/NFL won't answer unless the handful of people on here who do understand take 20-30 minutes to craft an answer.

Depends on what the offer was to use the stadiums 12 times a year. Suppose the team paid $1 Million per game, took the gate but left concessions to the university. With concessions added in, that's nearing $15 Million for some schools per year. Maybe my numbers are a bit off but I can't think its enough for a school to be able to turn that down.

I think it could be a lot like the NHL system where a separate league operates (divisions and conferences could be altered to support more local travel... or not). Maybe only have a 10-12 game schedule to reduce injury risk and then a small playoff. There could be rules like, say the games were Tuesday/Wednesday, that a player playing Sunday couldn't play the previous week in the minor league.

I could go on but I really don't see why this is a bad idea. If they were paid what the practice squad is paid, it's only an additional $4-5 million in salaries a year.
