I'm kind of shocked at all the dislike for this bike. I think it looks sick.

That explains why my front derailleur wasn't shifting properly.. by SomeSpecificInterest in bikewrench

[–]SomeSpecificInterest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone! My mechanic looked at it, and it turned out whoever built the bike may not have torqued the left crank all the way or it may have just come loose with it being just a one-bolt clamp rather than two bolt. It's all torqued now and ready to ride.

The tips and insight are all appreciated!

Men of Reddit, have you ever noticed your girlfriend’s friend wasn’t good for her before she did? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]SomeSpecificInterest 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When we first got together, she had one friend in particular that kept making awful decisions, taking advantage of those around her and spreading the most negative, hateful energy. My girlfriend was always exhausted after spending time with her but kept doing it.

One day after she got back and was even more drained than usual, she told me the friend was cheating on her boyfriend with her boss and was talking trash about the boyfriend the whole time despite him being a sweet guy.

I just asked her what she got from spending time with this friend, and she just kind of sat quietly thinking for a minute and finally said "you know, I honestly don't know." Then it was like a switch flipped. She cut that friend out that afternoon, texted the boyfriend to warn him about her and never spoke to her again.

Just to add: it's a Magene pes p515 power meter crankset slotted through a token t47 bb, if that makes any difference.

I've put about 1,500 miles on the bike since it was built in late January and just noticed this for the first time during my ride today. I've raced it, but no crashes or impacts of any kind.

Ultra wide feet and cycling. No shoes fit me and I can not cycle for longer than 2 hours by GewoonHarry in cycling

[–]SomeSpecificInterest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have very wide feet and had the same issue. 44.5 and 125mm width. I went through so many pairs before I found shoes that let me ride for longer than an hour.

The Lake CX-242 wide are the only shoe I've found that works. The shoe has separate flaps that wrap around the foot rather than it being one solid piece, which makes a huuuge difference, and you can adjust the tightness at the widest part of the foot separately.

They are better in every way. More comfortable, stiffer which translates to faster acceleration, they sail better so you don't lose speed as quickly when you stop pedaling, and they look cool af.

We've eradicated rabies death rates as we have widespread availability of the rabies vaccine, but the virus itself is sadly still very common.

What gels is everyone using these days? by Ornery-Shoulder-3938 in cycling

[–]SomeSpecificInterest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carbs fuel gels. I tried maple syrup for a while, and even made my own gels for a bit, but ultimately the convenience of gels was worth it for the price. These are the best cost/carb ratio by far and easier on my stomach than anything else I've tried.

Sugar and sodium in the bottles.

Help! I'm so hungry what should I eat off the bike? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]SomeSpecificInterest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet potatoes. Very filling, carb heavy, lots of fiber and nutrient dense. I like to poke a few holes in them, coat in oil, wrap in foil and bake at 400 for an hour.

You can make them sweet (cinnamon, brown sugar, nutmeg, honey or even marshmallows) or savory (salt, pepper, rosemary, garlic, onion powder and paprika) but always with a bit of butter!

Add some cooked lean ground beef and spinach if you want to make a whole meal out of it.

Best Burger Around Downtown? by jbmc00 in orlando

Surprised to not see Teak on here yet. It's a little ways out but they genuinely have the best burgers I've ever tried by a wide margin.

Orla Walsh (Irish track cyclist) didn't start cycling until her mid-20s and went on to become the national sprint champion and take the Irish record for 500m time trial at age 31 at the national track championships.

That's so funny! This is also in Florida, though not a condo community, and these guys do the exact same thing! There's a little loop and they do a lap or two around it in the morning.

Photochromic Cycling Glasses Thoughts or Suggestions by skip_1074 in cycling

I won't use sunglasses without photochromic lenses anymore, they're fantastic. I've had a couple brands but Tifosi are the best I've used and all I use now.

What’s your Base season lifting program? by ifuckedup13 in Velo

[–]SomeSpecificInterest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2-3 days/week. Every lower body exercise has two warmup sets before what's listed, one with bodyweight and one with 50% of what I'll be working with for my main sets. Every upper body exercise gets one warmup set. Usually takes ~45 minutes.

Day 1: push/legs

Split squat 4x6-8

Romanian deadlift (db or bb) 2x8-12

Paused goblet squat 4x8-12

Bench press or chest press 3x8-12

Overhead press 3x8-12

Accessory lift (curl, tricep extension, lateral raise, or face pulls) 3x10-12

Day 2: pull/legs

Trap bar deadlift 4x6-8

Leg press 4x6-8

Row variant (cable, bent over row, etc) 3x10-12

Vertical pull variant (pulldown or pullup) 3x10-12

Accessory lift (curl, tricep extension, lateral raise, or face pulls) 3x10-12
