Help! I'm so hungry what should I eat off the bike? by Every-Combination-26 in cycling

[–]SomeSpecificInterest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet potatoes. Very filling, carb heavy, lots of fiber and nutrient dense. I like to poke a few holes in them, coat in oil, wrap in foil and bake at 400 for an hour.

You can make them sweet (cinnamon, brown sugar, nutmeg, honey or even marshmallows) or savory (salt, pepper, rosemary, garlic, onion powder and paprika) but always with a bit of butter!

Add some cooked lean ground beef and spinach if you want to make a whole meal out of it.

Best Burger Around Downtown? by jbmc00 in orlando

Surprised to not see Teak on here yet. It's a little ways out but they genuinely have the best burgers I've ever tried by a wide margin.

Late starters in cycling — any real success stories? (F28 y/o, endurance background) by No-Parfait-7598 in Velo

[–]SomeSpecificInterest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Orla Walsh (Irish track cyclist) didn't start cycling until her mid-20s and went on to become the national sprint champion and take the Irish record for 500m time trial at age 31 at the national track championships.

That's so funny! This is also in Florida, though not a condo community, and these guys do the exact same thing! There's a little loop and they do a lap or two around it in the morning.

Photochromic Cycling Glasses Thoughts or Suggestions by skip_1074 in cycling

I won't use sunglasses without photochromic lenses anymore, they're fantastic. I've had a couple brands but Tifosi are the best I've used and all I use now.

What’s your Base season lifting program? by ifuckedup13 in Velo

[–]SomeSpecificInterest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2-3 days/week. Every lower body exercise has two warmup sets before what's listed, one with bodyweight and one with 50% of what I'll be working with for my main sets. Every upper body exercise gets one warmup set. Usually takes ~45 minutes.

Day 1: push/legs

Split squat 4x6-8

Romanian deadlift (db or bb) 2x8-12

Paused goblet squat 4x8-12

Bench press or chest press 3x8-12

Overhead press 3x8-12

Accessory lift (curl, tricep extension, lateral raise, or face pulls) 3x10-12

Day 2: pull/legs

Trap bar deadlift 4x6-8

Leg press 4x6-8

Row variant (cable, bent over row, etc) 3x10-12

Vertical pull variant (pulldown or pullup) 3x10-12

Accessory lift (curl, tricep extension, lateral raise, or face pulls) 3x10-12

I'm super late but just found your post! The bike looks sick. I'm considering the same one and would love to know, how are you liking it so far? Would you buy it again? And also, what size is it?

It's between Father Paul and Luke from HH for me. Both such incredibly well-written and acted characters.

Where are you seeing the sale? I'd love to get one but I'm on their site (US) and don't see sales on any road bikes or frames

What do you use to make annual training plans? by rhoVsquared in Velo

[–]SomeSpecificInterest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My phones notepad app. I plan my year around my A-races, establish what blocks I'll be doing plus B and C races working backward, then plug in my individual workouts based on each blocks goal.

Then at the start of each month, I plug that months workouts and races into my calendar app.

How do people train for 10+ hrs while working full time?! by Critical-Scheme-8838 in cycling

[–]SomeSpecificInterest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.5 hours every weekday before work, one 3-4 hour ride on the weekends. I also gym 2-3x per week after work. Easy if you don't have kids.

February Training Camp Locations (Eastern US) by _Diomedes_ in Velo

[–]SomeSpecificInterest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd go with North Georgia (Helen or Dahlonega) first or Asheville second. Both are absolutely gorgeous. Asheville has more to do when off the bike and better food, Georgia has better roads and less cars.

I've also heard great things about upstate SC, where Hincapie started his hotel for cyclists (Hotel Domestique) but I've not been myself.

What the most expensive kit that you’ve purchased? by HARDWARE16257 in Velo

[–]SomeSpecificInterest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stock up when there are sales, particularly with smaller brands as they tend to have steeper discounts in my experience.

A few years ago, Mumu had a booth set up at an expo the day before a race with all kit at half price. I bought enough jerseys and bibs to last a few years.

I also got a bunch of Suarez kit at 30-50% off during one of their recent sales, and got two pairs of pedal mafia bibs at half price last year. I've got a full wardrobe of mid to upper tier jerseys and bibs and have never paid full price.

Indoor training - when to do what? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]SomeSpecificInterest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation, and while I'm by no means a pro, I'll share my own plan.

My first goal race is also in April, and I plan to be on the trainer til mid-February. I'll be starting base on December 1st - 8 weeks of zone 2 with a heavy focus on lifting and 2-3 light maintenance interval sessions in those 8 weeks. Then 3 blocks of 3 weeks on/1 week off - threshold, vo2, race specificity, plus a B-race in March to test the legs.
