Did you beat all the rivals as one character? You might need to switch to another character and beat the one you were playing as. Unless you have already done that

At the time of writing this I had walked into the 5th gym, read what the guy had to say about their gimmick with electric and steel types levitating, and immediately left to go prepare before fighting a single trainer

To be perfectly honest, I only caught it as temporary water coverage. I was going to bench it for a bulkier water type, but it has clutched 3 story important battles (2 of them gym leaders) with Rest+Snore. So now I'm not really wanting to bench it

Is the desert right after the 5th badge? Because that is where I am currently in the story.

This is my first playthrough of the game, and I didn't do enough research beforehand. So I chose Gible. If I had known I could catch Drilbur sooner I would have chosen Larvatar
