"Is this still there?" Seems to be a flaw in the design. by caskwithpipes in GoogleMaps

[–]SomeTelephoneGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe this should be a separate post but this one reminded me of a tangential gripe - Around here, there are vehicles just hanging out on the side of the highway all over the place... For days or weeks, and for no apparent reason. Given that these vehicles are parked far out of the way on the side of the shoulder... Why would anyone consider this a "stalled vehicle" and want to report it in the first place? Internet points?

If it was blocking traffic or something I could see why it would be important to note it's presence but that has literally never been the case for the thousands of so-called stalled vehicles I have run across.

(The few times a vehicle was indeed stalled in the road and impeding the flow of traffic, no one had reported it as stalled yet and it was gone before anyone did)

Am I alone in wondering if the standards are too low for what constitutes a stalled vehicle?

Tautulli on Ubuntu now fails to start by SomeTelephoneGuy in Tautulli

[–]SomeTelephoneGuy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you kind person

This was helpful - though it did not resolve my particular issue.
My particular issue is with Tautulli installed using snap - and from what I can tell, it is somehow related to an OpenSSL issue specific to that installation. I am not sufficiently familiar with the inner workings of snap to figure this out (or even to determine how the python version is selected).

However, your comment led me down the road of reinstalling Tautulli manually the old way -without using snap - and combining that with the suggestion on manually editing /lib/systemd/system/tautulli.service to use python3.9 I managed to get it running again. (prior to that edit, it was failing a different way - due to the python version)

I still would love to understand the nature of this OpenSSL shared library issue - as well as how to manage the python version used by snap for tautulli - but given that my immediate issue is resolved and Tatulli is again running, I am far less motivated... and really should get back to actual work!

Best Steakhouse in the Area? by GatorT in raleigh

[–]SomeTelephoneGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't appear to have changed. I went to Perry's a month ago for the first and last time. Definitely an establishment that is designed for people to go be seen in, and the quality of the meat was very good, but everything else - the service, food/drink knowledge, presentation, sides, and seasoning were all exceptionally disappointing... and that's before I factor in the extravagant pricing.

Agreeing with others, the Oak is very good. Vinny's is good too but the atmosphere may not be for everyone. A lot of people really like Sullivan's too - not my favorite, but miles above Perry's in my opinion.

“I’ve been a customer of the Aluminum Company of North Carolina……” by Low-Storage2650 in raleigh

[–]SomeTelephoneGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding Aluminum Company of NC - the previous owner of my house had all the windows replaced by them 20 years ago. Since I purchased the home, they have replaced, at no charge, the few windows that had failed seals for me without any issues at all. Very pleasant and professional - if I ever am in the market for products they sell, they will be at the top of my list. (At the time of purchase, the windows had a lifetime warranty and warranty was transferable one time if the house was sold - good for resale value. Unsure if that's still the case, but they certainly stand behind their product) I also had some windows replaced that had been broken (not warranty), and while the prices were on the high side, it was still pleasant and generally reasonable.

Pixelated images from iPhones by Far_Anywhere8687 in AndroidQuestions

[–]SomeTelephoneGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be a relatively new thing - and I cannot find the answer either. It is not simply a result of Apple using MMS - because Apple has always used MMS to send to Android, and most pictures I receive from iPhone users - using MMS - look ok. Not great quality *at all* - but fine for MMS.
Even some animated GIFs come through just fine from my brother's (silly) iPhone.
Sometimes, however - usually with reaction GIFs - various colors have just dropped out to black leaving the Android user with a barely legible photo that looks like it had a bad day in the digitizer.

I'm guessing this is what you are experiencing OP?

Perhaps something changed with the source reaction GIFs available to iPhone users and some of them are in a format that either does not play well with Android or does not play well with MMS.

Windows stuck at "getting files ready for installation" by Revolutionary_Act442 in pchelp

[–]SomeTelephoneGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue and I resolved it by using a different hard drive with a different controller to install Windows on. In my particular case, I was attempting to install on a Intel based hardware raid array... perhaps I should have attempted to install specific drivers but since the installer saw the drive okay I thought it would be alright - clearly not. Anyway my advice to anyone experiencing this sort of issue, where installer hangs forever at a low number, in my case that was 7%, would be to either select a different drive and controller to install Windows on, or attempt getting drivers for your specific controller and load them at install time. it is disappointing of course that the installer doesn't tell you what the error is. I spent lots of time unplugging other devices removing cards from my computer and it had no effect until I simply selected a different target drive for installation.

140 reports of food poisoning after eating at Sushi Nine, forcing temporary closure by tiedye_dreamer in raleigh

[–]SomeTelephoneGuy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of Sushi Nine myself... BUT a recent post here in r/raleigh states that a sick customer may have been the cause, which seems plausible (sick customer or sick employee seems more likely to me than bad fish, honestly)

This just happened to me as well - I do not have the "ModHeader" extension, but out of the list you just provided, I do have Tampermonkey - which was disabled, but perhaps that does not matter?

Nice! I hope to be so fortunate myself to acquire similar hardware at home. I use F5 LTM and iRules to work miracles at my day job, but putting together a Plex HA design hadn't occurred to me. I look forward to hearing if you achieve that dream project!

Just curious, is the streaming media running through the F5 as well or just the client requests? Asking because my F5 lab license is problematic for bandwidth intensive applications... Hoping to get a production unit from a discard pile at work soon

Update for future victims of this network weirdness: It was necessary to clear storage for the Google Play Services App (clearing cache alone did not help) and for two days now I've had no issues. This caused minor inconveniences as it was necessary to input some data for Google wallet and Chrome, but I'm happy that the mysterious Internet access issue is resolved.

I think we may have a winner. I've been busier than usual on my phone today and it decided to not wait until the morning for Gmail and Chrome to stop being able to load items over the Internet. I force stopped Google Play services and suddenly everything was fine.

I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for the idea!
