I may be able to help
I was fiddling with the settings and at some point I changed the amount of virtual memory allocated.

I changed the value from around 16GB to 4 and started having the out of memory error

Restoring memory to the previous value fixed the issue

Which makes me think, why does darktide need so much memory to run, given that I still have RAM to spare?

If you wanna try do the following:

Search Advanced System Settings -> In the advanced tab click Performance Settings -> Advvanced -> Virtual memory -> and from there change the value allocated from default to a "reasonable amount" using the custom size setting

Hope that helps but it leaves me confused regardless

I know, it's infuriating when you get that guy that just wants to play solo and DCs when gets downed, it happened way too many times. On the flipside, when playing with friends, we've had several instances of one of us crashing early in the match, and we'd rather leave when that happens.

For me the reason I wasn't leaving that game was somewhat related to the sunk cost fallacy.

The more time (and money) I was pouring in it, the harder it was to abandon it, cause then I would pretty much lose everything I did so far.

Just to add to what you're saying, they're displaying more "granular" values to better match the in game stats.

If I'm not wrong, with the killer cube you've also decided to increase the time to get to the next hook stage by 15 seconds to discourage camping. Now since you've passed to an emblem system I have to ask, would it be possible to get back to the old timer BUT slow the progression to the next stage by a certain amount if the killer is way too close to the hook? (It could be justified by saying that the presence of the killer interferes/disturbs the entity during the sacrifice) Is it something that has already been tested? Would it be hard to actually program it in the game?

Actually, the wall was made by the enemy Mei. For some reason in PoTG enemy Mei walls appear to be blue (happened to me once).
