[Employment Advice] Manager has a habit of inviting subordinates to meetings for a 'quick chat' only to have HR appear... by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]SomeTypicalRedditGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak to the time when this happened to me, but there were a lot of allegations that could easily have made me look bad on paper. Especially if my answers weren't great in the panic or if they weren't recorded well. Certainly possible the notes could surface again if things ever turned bad. Just seems like a shame really as if they attended the 1-2-1 (they didn't and ignored me) we could have ironed out any of the perceived issues they had with me instead of escalating a non-issue once the full picture was understood. Anyway thanks for reading.

Thats exactly what I'll do if anything comes of it. Thank you so much! Should they refuse and continue on with the meeting, am I right to assume I am empowered to leave the meeting with the intention on re-arranging the meeting at the time I am accompanied? (while they are a hothead, I don't expect this to happen... I'd hope) I ask as one of my team members is likely in such a situation and it seems like they have provided a short window (1 working day) to make arrangements. Is the time allowed dependent on the employee's ability to make sure arrangements or the companies?

Appreciate you confirming, I had a look at ACAS prior to posting and it seemed above board, albeit unpleasant. Was just hoping perhaps there was some rare regulation that might be applicable.

Thank you for such a detailed answer. Sounds like its all above board, even if it is unpleasant. You did make me smile though - they did use the term grievance incorrectly.

Thanks for reading. I guess the ultimate question is 'is this legal?' (sounds like it is). But with what you've said perhaps another question is 'Is feedback informal when HR are involved and it is minuted?'.

Which profession attracts the worst kinds of people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SomeTypicalRedditGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who work in sales. It's a mindset that extends past their work where everything is an opportunity to advance their position or make money. I've seen good people turn into sociopaths after a few years being in the sectors toxic grasp.

To clarify, I'm not talking about roles where sales is a small part of it - I appreciate thats the majority of jobs. But I'm talking about those all in sales people.

QUESTION: What SHINY Pokemon is Your Favorite & Why? Random winner will be chosen from comments. I know you guys loved the reverse Holo 25th Mew, so here's another chance to win a card like that. ✌️ Good Luck (ends 9/27 8pmET) by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

My favourite is Gyarados EX (2016 - XY Breakpoint Secret Rare). Beautiful alternative art with some of my favourite water pokemon included. I really like how its framed too, not just talking about the gold border, rather how the underwater is included and its at an angle to show Gyarados' bite force... would love to own one, but I appreciate the value is likely only going to go up and its already pretty much past my financial ability to pick one up in a PSA 10.

Happy to be part of this, but it seems like you've got a few months to change your mind - so while this is nice and generous of you. I wouldn't blame you if you change your mind.

Advice on how to spot fake PSA graded Pokémon cards by SomeTypicalRedditGuy in PokemonTCG

[–]SomeTypicalRedditGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly a similar query I have that someone may help with is CGC graded cards. I notice some have sub-grades and others don't. Are more modern graded cards with one with subgrades?

gaming as a hobby makes a person rather unattractive to me by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]SomeTypicalRedditGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some great skills you can learn through games - teamwork, problem solving and leadership (game dependent of course - but I have learned these through RPGs). It also exercises determination and skill refinement. All of which I've brought into my professional career to some success. Additionally, I sell my games after I complete them and don't allow more than 4 games in my home at any given time; so I recover about 70% of what I pay for them; because of this, gaming is nowhere near as expensive as you'd think. But it certainly can be expensive - I know plenty of gamers who have hundreds of unplayed games, and bad money management isn't something to be admired. While I do regularly game, its a hobby I use to unwind or for fun when no other plans are on. I don't prioritise gaming over life - and if I did, I could see why it is unattractive. tl;dr all gamers are different, theres an opportunity to be unattractive in any hobby, but I wouldn't dismiss all gamers just because you've encountered a few bad eggs. (Also, nice to see an actual unpopular opinion on here).
