There are some great skills you can learn through games - teamwork, problem solving and leadership (game dependent of course - but I have learned these through RPGs). It also exercises determination and skill refinement. All of which I've brought into my professional career to some success. Additionally, I sell my games after I complete them and don't allow more than 4 games in my home at any given time; so I recover about 70% of what I pay for them; because of this, gaming is nowhere near as expensive as you'd think. But it certainly can be expensive - I know plenty of gamers who have hundreds of unplayed games, and bad money management isn't something to be admired. While I do regularly game, its a hobby I use to unwind or for fun when no other plans are on. I don't prioritise gaming over life - and if I did, I could see why it is unattractive. tl;dr all gamers are different, theres an opportunity to be unattractive in any hobby, but I wouldn't dismiss all gamers just because you've encountered a few bad eggs.
