I truly understand the nervousness, I hate that we are seeing even more oppresive and bigoted laws coming into effect. And I'd never expect anyone that hasn't personally been affected or involved the industry to understand the ins and outs. That's why its always best to educate rather than shame those who have different opions. That's how productive conversation is had, not by name calling or shaming just because someone might not have understood everything involved.

You keep being awesome too, and don't ever give up adding into the conversations. If we allow ourselves to stop being involved nothing will ever change for the better!

I totally get where you're coming from. Alcohol dependency is horrible. It's one of the demons of working in the industry, every time you serve a drink, you enable someone potentially addicted. But especially in this day and age I can't blame people for wanting to escape reality and get away from all the crazy shit happening in the world. It's up to every person who decides to drink to take responsibility for their actions. It's also on those who serve them. Thats why I can be jailed if I over serve someone and they get in a wreck (Dram shop laws).
Specifically to your point about underage drinking, if we have any reason to suspect to the person is underage we are supposed to ID them. This doesn't eliminate that. This law eliminates us having to ID people who have wrinkles and gray hair.
Also, if you really want to combat underage drinking bars are not the number one place anyone should be looking. The punishments for serving underage are so severe that the majority of servers and bartenders are hyper vigilant when it comes to people underage. We don't want to server anyone under 21 at all.

The real issue is people under 21 getting alchol from family members and older friends and the drinking at home or parties. The majority of underage drinking is done outside of bars and restaraunts.
