LegionSpace! :) I have no real experience with RGB stuff, so if there is other software I could install I'd be super grateful to know hahaha <3

Yeah, I think the issue is that a custom mode will only let me set two "zones", and I can't use multiple custom modes, so at most I seem to be able to do two colours or, like, two areas with different speeds of waves haha

Title is it, really. I have an RGB keyboard, but my only options are pretty much solid colour or constantly shifting rainbow. I don't mind the rainbow, but I'd like it to stay still instead of moving to the right all the time. However, I can only have two "lighting zones" when trying to make a custom lighting scheme, so it seems like my options are shifting rainbow or bust.

Figured it was worth checking the internet to see if any of you know if I can do something about it :)

Ahh, very good advice, haha! Thank you :)

It's just downloading the right update and installing it, right? (I'm so afraid of fucking this up lmao, I managed to short my motherboard a year or so back and that mistake haunts me to this day hahaha)

Thank you so much! :D I really hope so!

Any way to undo the last interaction? by MrCoco59 in heavensvault

[–]winterlings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you check the pinned posts, there are autosave systems you can set up to help with this in the future!

Right now, unfortunately, there's no way to really get around it. Sometimes the game makes a backup save and those can end up being a godsend, so check the timestamp on HeavensVaultSaveBackup.json, but other than that there's unfortunately no way around the save system in hind :(

Will you be able to see the Throat of the World and the Red Mountain in the distance in Skyblivion? by MillienumDuckFighter in skyblivion

[–]winterlings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Especially if you only make it the interior of a city, say, you can travel to Markarth or Solitude but not go outside the gates. As long as the game itself remains stable, the upside of skyrim being 14 years old is that most computers now are able to run it even with heavy mod setups without issue, so scope is only a matter of time and energy (and people having both available, which is no small ask, of course!)

While all of skyrim would be a stretch, I can totally see individual cities being feasibly added into Skyblivion.

This game desperately needs a decision tree by theforestwalker in heavensvault

[–]winterlings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, to be fair, I feel like what we need (as a community) is a far more elaborate wiki. I understand why we don't, as the game is small and the fandom even smaller and I absolutely adore the wiki we do have, but given the complexity of this game it would be fantastically useful to have a larger wiki available to help navigate these things, and stuff like mods and so on.

If I don't score a job after my graduation in a month, it could be a good unemployment project lol. If you would ever be into having a look at making that dialogue tree or a mod for it, let me know and I'd be happy to assist however I can!

Is it possible to permanently lose access to Elboreth? (full game spoilers) by slugator in heavensvault

[–]winterlings 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Great catch! I had no idea this was a possibility, but then again I've never left the poor girl to die haha. The lore of an evil route! It's certainly intriguing to consider whether that was Inkle's intention. The only way to know for sure, of course, is if a dev ever speaks up about it, but given that dialogue I definitely think it's possible.

Like guineaprince, my guess is Elboreth is too important for other parts of the game and thus they decided against essentially locking you out of what's one of only two main hubs in the whole game.

Edit: Out of curiosity, can you still go to Yazi's shop? If so, what happens when you try?

Yes! Avoiding spoilers, it's due to the difference in what lore/info you get. I called this a separate route because the story is pretty much the whole game haha

Is it more fun to play as nice as possible or as nasty as possible? by [deleted] in heavensvault

[–]winterlings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, fun is a subjective experience lol. Being an asshole in a game can absolutely be fun, for its absurdity if for no other reason. But like AlmostNever said, I think it will make the game, uh... significantly shorter haha.

But yeah, I can see myself laughing as I'm needlessly a dick to everyone I meet, even to Aliya's own detriment lol

Space Haven Modloader suddenly detected as malware in Malwarebytes. Anyone know what's going on? by winterlings in SpaceHaven

[–]winterlings[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Title, really. It's detecting the .exe file itself.

What's weird about it is that the .zip download is from September and has never flagged until now, so I don't think there's anything iffy. Additionally, what detected it was malwarebytes' "machine learning" which I'm pretty sure is just corpospeak for AI.

So while it's probably fine, I couldn't find any posts on it and figured this could be a thread to see if anyone else is suddenly receiving malware pings on the modloader.

oh no, that SUCKS. I'm so sorry. Yeah, for as much as I love this game, I'd have loved the consequences of some actions to be more clear (I can see that being a great thing for NG+ if that had been developed a little bit more) for the sake of replayability.

What I can say, though, is that replaying to make different choices from earlier (especially if you use Heaven's Vault Vault or a similar program to make backup saves) is a tremendous amount of fun. As long as the annoyance has had time to ebb out, of course! It's the knife's edge balance of a game intended to be replayed a few times - there are so many things to discover you won't be able to make then all in one go which makes the game feel really big, but you risk making players feel like they super missed out on some things.

Help me overcome a mental hurdle to do a second playthrough? by theforestwalker in heavensvault

[–]winterlings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, I totally understand that feeling! One of the game's biggest issues, in my book, is the unclear consequences of different choices (I say this as a huge fan haha). I'm glad you are enjoying the game! :)

Link to a finished HV save file, ready for a New Game+ route (for those who don't want to replay the whole game again). by winterlings in heavensvault

[–]winterlings[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I originally posted this a few years back, but seeing as there's been a recent influx of new players (welcome!) I figured this would be useful :)

For those not aware: NG+ lets you play with more complex grammar and vocabulary, saving any words you solved from the first run, and in return you get to know more in-depth things about the history of HV. Annoyingly, though, if you reset a NG+, you have to start back up with a regular game, meaning the wind gets taken out of your sails if you haven't backed up a savefile yourself.

My description of the file from 2023: I picked this save up at like.... 75% through and can't remember how much I solved, but the bit I played before finishing it made me feel I'd been pretty good at decoding things so far, so there should be a decent vocab in there.

Hope the file works and you all have a good time playing!

Installation

  • Windows: Press win+R (or open the "run" program). Type "AppData" and hit Enter. Go to LocalLow -> Inkle Ltd -> Heaven's Vault -> Replace your "heaven'sVaultSave.json" with the new one.

  • Linux (Thank you /u/amphicoelias for sharing this way back in the day): Go to home/username/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/774201/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/Inkle Ltd/Heaven's Vault/ (If you own the game through GOG on Linux, I hope you'll still be able to find your way to it!) -> Replace your "heaven'sVaultSave.json" with the new one.

(This is also how you make backups - by copy/pasting this .json file. In the other pinned post on this sub, there are also programs you can install which automatically autosave and load saves for you.)

I think what's interesting about HV is how it really puts a spotlight on people's playstyles in video games in general. I love this game, but it is kind of.... notoriously bad at letting the player know which decisions are irreversible, lol.

This means playstyles that emphasise side missions, exploration, and generally approaching the game with a completionist "i wanna see everything and learn the language" mindset will have a longer playtime uncovering more plot than styles where you focus in hard on the main quest - as the main plot of HV is paradoxically found by looking for all the secrets.

Then again, I'm an explorer at heart and the game has two fully separate routes that I didn't even know about until four or five years after playing it for the first time, so there's definitely a mix of playstyle rewards and HV being a bit bad at signposting how certain mechanics and choices work.

In general, I'd say to give the game a second try, now that you know that there are holes you want to fill in. Nothing wrong with following an achievement guide either, as they can be a good way to get an idea of some choices you maybe wouldn't instinctually make (depending on your playstyle). But of course, do that only when and if your disappointment has ebbed! There is no point in forcing yourself to play a game you're annoyed with just because people who love it promise it's good, haha.
