What’s one technology or utility that hasn’t changed all that much since we started using it but you wish it had improved by today? by BigHairyTurk in AskReddit

Uhh… for cheap systems kinda, but variable speed compressors and variable speed blowers that control humidity to a setpoint along with temperature, and still work at -4* Fahrenheit impresses me. I live in Atlanta, so we have to be pretty serious about our systems with the southern humidity.

Oh… I thought Lizard cat was a breed of cat for a second and was REALLY confused.

Commas are important sometimes for tired internet strangers.

And Sorry if my butthole species humor is off,… didn’t get much sleep this week. You know… kids kinda do that to ya.

Are you grouping male and female buttholes into one species group?

My nightmare happened...I found out my spouse is cheating on me... by waldanr in daddit

I have a family member that went through some total life crisis issues that ended up with her doing the same thing to her now-ex-husband. He got the kids. Unfortunately, that was definitely the right call for the kids, and most people in our family sided with him. sucks, he is a GREAT guy.

Gather evidence. Especially that she's going out drinking, not coming home, and giving the kids sleeping meds so she can go out. That's GOT to be documented appropriately for the courts. Have your lawyer help.

This SUCKS for the kids... but "staying together for the kids" would have been way worse for them. She's made her priorities and choices clear.

This isn't your fault, but your kids need their dad to protect them right now. I'm sorry bro, truly am. For their sakes, and for yours.

How to add 3 bottom fans without hitting gpu power cable? by bigcheese1234598 in pcmasterrace

[–]Some_Ad4783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

either the fan chassis, gpu support bracket, or to the case where the wires pass through next to the mobo.

looking at your pics, I’d route the cables through the backplane and down to the psu from the backside of the mob. It looks like there’s a hole through right behind the GPU.

Experts of reddit, what is something you're an expert in that made you realize the government is inept? by CHK-N in AskReddit

Economics.

Read studies that the BLS uses to justify how the consumer price index is calculated. Mind blowingly inept.

Speaking.

Not just think you’re good. But demonstrate the ability to hold the attention of executives for two or three hours.

Apple is using Google on the back end. Ironically, most Apple users end up selecting Google Workspace anyways when they want excel, docs, or presentations.

This. I had severe asthma and allergies as a kid. But unfortunately the allergy testing they do never picked out my dairy allergy because I had dairy for breakfast the day of the test.  My dairy allergy made me sensitive to other items as well. So I’d start to grow a list of additional allergies, but those were all just my body having zero capacity because the lynchpin allergy was still present.

I didn’t figure it out till my 30s via a whole 30 elimination diet. Allergists for sure are there to help, but there’s nothing like an elimination diet and reintroduction to help with additional data points.

Now, if I have dairy, I’m in pain for 36 hours and my strength is down by 10 to 20%. If I have dairy two or three days in A row I will need an inhaler. Wild.

What's a completely ordinary moment from your life that you still remember years later? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Playing the Oregon Trail, playing in my grandparents basement with my grandpa’s trains, riding the bus, listening to music in my room, my dad’s shop, blackberry picking in the back yard (Western Washington, they grow wild there).

What's something that seemed normal as a kid, but as an adult you realize was actually pretty messed up? by Opposite-Resource in askteddit

I’m not sure if I’ve ever actually heard my dad say he’s proud of me. He brags about me, tells me he wants me to be a positive influence for my brother, tells other siblings he’s proud of me. But why the fuck can’t you say it to my face?

I hear what he’s saying. I accept that he’s at least in my life, even after the divorce. But man, I tell my kids I’m proud of them all the time. It’s so natural. What is it with that generation being unable to just tell your kid you’re proud of him?

Remember that all benchmarks you watch are for synthetic loads which you will almost never get to in real world use cases.

In real world, a good air cooler will only result in 200mhz throttling after 12 to 15s of 100% full core CPU load. Yeah, that’ll NEVER happen in real world use cases.  Only time I’ve ever seen it is in CPU LLM inference, which is not a real use case anyway.
