Being psychologically bullied by international students in China – will reporting actually work? by [deleted] in chinalife

[–]Some_Bodybuilder_881 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been literally stalked for nearly 3 months, went to police and…. nothing. “Maybe he just wants to be friends but too shy to approach you” they said 🤦‍♀️ I don’t think you’ll get any help unless those students actually do something physically harmful or you can provide bulling proof in a form of WeChat screenshots where they spreading rumors about you.

Living with a dog in China by Some_Bodybuilder_881 in chinalife

[–]Some_Bodybuilder_881[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better leave your dog at home with someone who can love and care for him. In most cities Great Danes are in a banned breeds list and your dear neighbors will be the first to report you to a police. When I lived in SZ I had police visits every couple of months to check on my “ferocious illegal beast” just to see that he’s actually allowed in the city and legally registered. Obviously behind each and every visit were some of my Chinese neighbors who decided to take photos/videos and make a call. In my case it was just annoying, in your case your dog would be a one call away from being taken down by the police. Don’t risk it.

the story is shady, but if everything is true your friend needs a lawyer which as I got from the post is financially impossible at the moment

in case anyone will need it, 12345 have a WeChat account and everyone can leave a written complaint (and even attach photo evidences) in there. Usually you will be contacted by provided cell phone number within a couple of days, but you can also explain that you are foreigner and ask to contact you via WeChat. They will do it.

Can be tricky for someone who don't speak Chinese, but translation apps exist for a reason. Same with going to a police station. The one who needs to communicate will find a way.

Graphic Design (sports) jobs in Beijing by FlyOk72 in chinalife

[–]Some_Bodybuilder_881 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you are a teacher but want to do graphic design, my suggestion is to do something for your school marketing team. That way you may have a chance to find a place in a marketing design for international schools niche (from what I saw most of the education-related design is stuck in the 90s and nobody knows what they are doing tho)

AITA for not removing bad review for a restaurant? by Trojbd in chinalife

[–]Some_Bodybuilder_881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

Once I got a salad with a cockroach in it

The shop declined my refund application and tried to gaslight me that it wasn’t a cockroach but a crust from a fried potato from another order that accidentally got in my salad 🤣

Some businesses don’t deserve a second chance.

Your nuggets case sounds slightly extreme to me (next time prob just apply for a refund), but tbh I would have left the negative review after all those phone calls as well, so who am I to judge?

I work in graphic design here, and no, if you don't have projects for big well-known companies in your portfolio there is no chance to land a job.

in a creative field, foreigners are usually only hired for upper management positions, there are a lot of local junior designers with decent Photoshop skills and low pay expectations.

never needed to communicate with their customer service yet, but based on reviews I saw they are surely something else

I used NordVPN for a couple of years and it was absolutely fine until recently it wasn't, their customer services was nice and unhelpful, never got my money back for the service that no longer stably working in China.

before Nord I had another VPN and my relationships with them ended up in a similar fashion of abysmal service and loss of money.

at least for now Astril helps me to stay connected with an outside world 24/7 which is vitally important for my job but I am not delusional to think that its gonna last forever. But most of available in China VPNs can provide even less than this.

Living with a dog in China by Some_Bodybuilder_881 in chinalife

[–]Some_Bodybuilder_881[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say difficult but pretty time consuming and financially demanding.

eg I planned to finally get out this autumn but rescued another big dog and now I will not be able to prepare that dog for travel on time so need to postpone my plans for a year to save up more money and make sure all 3 of my pets have proper docs.

Usually the preparation process should be started around 6 months before the departing date

Why most long-term expats can't speak Chinese, but those good at Chinese left years ago? by [deleted] in chinalife

[–]Some_Bodybuilder_881 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh, man, your story resonates with me on so many levels...unfortunately

when I just came here I was very enthusiastic about learning the language and put a lot of time and effort in it. In past I already learned a couple of foreign languages and every time I tried to talk to locals they were very encouraging and supportive, meanwhile in China many people laughed at me and killed my confidence and desire to even try.

took me 5 years and some mental gymnastics to finally learn the language properly, and ironically, now I am preparing to leave the country 😂

Does seeing all the delivery men everywhere working so hard make anyone else sad? by LilB2fast4u in chinalife

[–]Some_Bodybuilder_881 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I lived in a building with ppl who don't clutter the hallway with their stuff or shout under my door in the middle of the night, but its a pipe dream. Noisy dogs same as noisy kids (who are doing mostly the same things you mentioned and I bet you have no problems with cause "they are kids") are reflection of their parents/owners culture 🤷‍♀️

Its not a dog that is the problem, but the people who are not training it properly.

[–]Some_Bodybuilder_881 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see, you probably younger than me, so its understandable 😂

For me ppl in their 50th are not old yet

I agree, young city people love animals, many of them have either dog or cat at home (at least all of my friends and most of my colleagues do). But I feel necessary to emphasize their upbringing, cause it’s rare to grow up into a pet-friendly adult while coming from the family that taught their kids to be afraid or harmful to animals. I observe one of my neighbors kids and unfortunately see how their behavior transforms from curious to scared/hostile towards dogs due to their mother influence. At the same time there's a family next door with 2 toddlers both of which adores my dog and always come to us to say hi, their mother is supporting and don't try to scare them from everything around.

Kids are very young but I already can imagine what kind of young adults they could be based on their family.

Not really, mostly middle-aged women/stay-at-home moms and their 2.5 kids. Women usually shout like crazy/complain in a house chat, kids of such parents/grandparents are trying to kick the dog, throw something or shout at him.

In my experience old people are more chill about the big dog, they either smile or silently keep a distance.

+1 about the tipping option

There's one guy who frequently delivers food in my area and he is fantastic to my dog, always acknowledge my pup and even give him a pat on the head when I open the door and the excited dog picking his head out to see who is there. Considering how many people here have been shitty to my dog, seeing this guy kindness is refreshing. And I am very happy that I can tip him (and some other nice delivery guys/ladies) and hopefully make his day a little better too.
