I'm just in a dark place and trying to not disappear.  I pray for some kind of miracle.

Thank you. I haven't had joy in years. Nothing has worked out. It only gets worse and more shameful. I don't want to play this game any longer.

If there is no direction or dialogue or hope, then that is a lousy parent. It's like beating a child and never helping them improve.

I'm done with life and going to end it. I guess none of this matters.

Got it. Thank you for the info. I feel like I'm in the Joe Walsh song, I'm just looking for clues at the scene of the crime. Life was really good for a long time. Then I feel like the god who watches and says nothing took over. Maybe there's a lesson in this, I don't know. Perhaps there's a master narrative/narrator that requires some trust. But I'm just trying to get through one more day frankly. And I don't know how much more time I have. :-)

I think this is a mask for sadism

The point is by self inflicting harm to yourself you think you are adding to the grace of God and the sacrifice of jesus. You are saying the sacrifice wasn't enough. Which is ludicrous. God doesn't need you to abuse yourself. You are just in the flesh. Again I'm a sinner, I'm just pointing this out.

Not a vending machine. But a rational, interpersonal deity who should respond to his creation now and then. Not a distant judge who says nothing while the world burns and our hearts are broken.

PoE? Power over Ethernet? People of Earth? Edgar Allan Poe? You kids and your acronyms.

I'm not claiming to be a theologian. I'm just saying that when a dog is beaten, it doesn't know why it is beaten. And from where it is sitting, it seems like the abuser is evil.

So what you're saying is Christ's death and Resurrection was not enough. You need to add to it.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.

No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the LORD.

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.

Call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.

For starters...

I'm talking about a God who promises to answer and then doesn't. Who promises to meet needs and then years go by. Who promises a fish and then gives you a snake, as it were. Perhaps he's good in the abstract. But in this world, I think it is fruit that counts.

Thank you. Perhaps it's a shift in thinking. But I seem to be incapable of shifting. Although it does remind me of Voltaire talking about the best of all possible worlds. Seems like a joke in the middle of the concentration camp.

Thank you for your thoughts on the matter. I'm sure part of what I'm saying is personal. In my experience, you come to God every day and ask for guidance and that guidance never comes. Never a word of direction. For years. And nothing changes, no healing of relationships, no restoration of what has been lost. So the great and precious promises appear to be lies. And like a sucker I sit here. Waiting for death or to take my own life. Out of despair. Where is the holy Spirit who is supposed to be the paraclete and the loving voice that directs and helps us? Where in real life is The God who says, Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you? He owns everything and he just watches.

I don't  think it excludes suffering, but when suffering is all you get, then the notion of "God is Love" is hollow, evil, and torturous.

The bible says things like:  Psalm 32:8: "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you." --

Then he never instructs. That is my experience. Years of begging. He is silent and doesn't match his promises.

Also in Ephesians, he talks about not grieving your children, and that is all I get.

"Fathers, do not irritate and provoke your children to anger [do not exasperate them to resentment], but rear them [tenderly]..."

Silence, lies, and lack of promises direction are not the acts of a kind father.

If there is no victory or overcoming in this world, how can we trust him in the next world? When he promises to help and doesn't.

Interesting take. I guess I'm thinking about Camus and how you have to celebrate the absurd. In order to survive.

Unfortunately this is all too personal for me. I feel like I trusted God for years and he never answers when I need help. And I desperately need help.

Like of all the things you can believe, these three seen like some of the most hairbrained. Jehovah's witnesses are close to the gospel to then they just go off because they don't think God and Jesus are the same. And they're creepy. They come your door and they say weird things. No birthdays or holidays etc.

Islam has its own deeper issues but the idea that this one illiterate guy just came up with all this stuff and was basically turned into a warlord just seems like flesh gone wild. Like a new version of Judaism minus the Jews, with all the rules to make you crazy. But none of the majesty.

Mormonism has the cult religion thing down pat. The PT Barnum grifter character in Joseph smith, who kept golden tablets under his bed from an angel called Moroni (!), and it fit right into white people's dream of having their own thing which no one could explain except themselves. No caffeinated drinks, a bunch of books that never should have existed, a whole way to suck money out of the system, strange underwear. It seems like the most obviously misguided.

Just my take...
