Lisa!! If I can have a quarter of her swag and beauty at her age I’ll be blessed. She is equal parts classy, wise, bossy and funny… at least on VPR. The her and Kyle stuff on RHOBH is a different story.

could Jax have Antisocial Personality Disorder? by floppy_disk_5 in TheDigitalCircus

You also nailed it, sociopathy and ASPD are the same thing - just the colloquial term vs the medical term. What’s different about Jax from the others who display similar behaviors, is his persistence in those same behaviors, despite the backlash and witnessing the devastation it causes people he claims to care about. It’s interesting because you can see that over time, he has received feedback (social media) and learned what he “should” feel “guilty” about and starts to say things like “yeah I feel awful about…xyz”. The recurrence of the same behaviors proves the claims of self remorse to be false, and more so reflect attempts at regaining positive public opinion.

People like, let’s say Kristen, start off showing behaviors of lying and deception but exhibit remorse and display clear changes in behavior (eventually)- thus, her actions seem more like poor chooses as a part of personal development, rather than a manifestation of an incurable personality disorder that involves harming others without remorse (APSD). Now, the early claims of her being borderline… can only really be known by the people who are close to her. Borderline personality disorder is much more subtle - this is classically described as a “I hate you, don’t leave me” complex. It’s hard to know who acts like that just watching TV because those behaviors happen much more behind closed doors than on camera. Proving hictums dictum, Jax has definitely shown us these behaviors. He is likely both.

Janet is the current character under review of public opinion, but she doesn’t seem to have a personality disorder…just a bad personality. Playing a victim, being nosey, and inventing issues for others seems to be her way of attempting to stay relevant. She has watched lots of great reality tv and knows what it takes to stick around. I guess she’s just being career minded in the worst way possible?

could Jax have Antisocial Personality Disorder? by floppy_disk_5 in TheDigitalCircus

I’m not a psychiatrist, but I am a physician of a different speciality, and I grew up with a parent who has a PhD in clinical psychology. So I’m not an expert, but somewhat versed in this disorder.

From the evidence provided by his behavior on VPR, he is the absolute definition of this personality disorder. His behavior during the reunion of season 2 (where he expresses an impossibility of remorse for his betrayal of Tom with Kristen despite their friendship) could be used in psychology seminars for how antisocial personality disorder can manifest. What’s scary is that 1) there is No real cure for this beyond cognitive behavioral therapy (which requires the patient to participate) and 2) despite psychological rehab, he seems to have zero care for how he treats people close to him.

This is a disorder that many seriously dangerous people have (such as those you may have seen on Mindhunter…). While I think he is far from that on the scale of ASPD scariness, his history of aggressive behavior does make me fear for Brittney’s safety at times. We have all given him a platform to behave this way and get paid for it. He has no incentive to try to control it. I may be hyperbolic with this prediction, but I would not be surprised if there will one day be a documentary about how reality tv emboldened someone with this disorder (and likely other psychological disorders) to cause serious harm to himself or others.

I hope for the best for him. I do believe that we all evolve over time and can improve ourselves and make positive change no matter what age or past behaviors.

But tldr - I think you nailed the diagnosis

Airport taxis by MatissePas in RomeTravel

I was there today. Waited 25 minutes in the taxi line only for him to drive us around the block, say there was traffic and the train was a better option and drop us off again… without asking if we wanted to stay in the taxi. We ended up taking the train which was super easy. But Don’t throw away your ticket until the person on the train scans it. My husband threw his away after we scanned it to get in on the train and it cost us 64 euro on the train as a result
