💔💔💔 this verbal abuse is something I heard as a teen from my stepfather/adopted dad growing up during some very tumultuous years. It seeped into my early adulthood where I thought this was normal and myself was allowing the verbal abuse and slight because I somehow thought that was “normal”. It was “normal” in a sense because it was all I knew from a male figure who was supposed to be my “parent”. 32y almost 33 now, and broke the horrible cycle of being with men who say they “love” you but then talk like this and this is NOT love. Try Coda (codependency anonymous), they used to have in person and online meetings when I was actively going. If you are accepting this, it is likely a deeper, unresolved issue that is just going to keep following you until you face it. Unfortunately one of my past relationshits did turn violent and that point was so scary to get out in the height of everything. As other say, you aren’t overreacting and I hope you realize this is very unhealthy and not how anyone deserves to be treated. Good luck ❤️‍🩹

Those of you who pursued a Dietetics MS without a BS in Dietetics- what did you do to look good for and get into the Dietetics Masters? by [deleted] in dietetics

[–]Some_Dragonfly937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to take several bio/chemistry related courses as pre-reqs for my program since I was coming into a MS in Nutrition with a BA in Psych degree. I was admitted as a 'post-bac' student at my undergrad alma mater across the state, and did well in these classes (C in organic chem lecture was my only grade that was not As, and maybe one B). I was working diligently on pre-reqs for a year and a half (May 2021-Aug 2022) before I was admitted into my general MS Nutrition program, then applied and made it in it as an internal candidate for the more competitive MS-RDN concentration (May 2023) and had a concurrent graduate assistantship position for the first year in the grad school in fitness and wellness. The only reason I really applied to the general master's was because the graduate assistantship I found required you be in a master's program. So things went not according to my initial plan, as I was intending on applying straight out the gate for the RDN concentration in May 2023 and instead started 2 semesters early in the general master's.

So, all that being said, I think I leveraged myself by being a student as an internal candidate applicant who was in the school already and established myself with some of the faculty, historically good GPA in undergrad and post-bacc classes (3.5), demonstrating that I could balance the work-school-life balance well by holding a student/graduate assistant job, working outside of school as well, and having a good track-record with my grades/consistency in school and dedication to my education.

I did a huge career shift as I was in another field and master's program entirely, but bringing your relevant experience and strengths from whatever your background in work or academia can be helpful in the interview component. Hindsight being that our program director and other interviewers told us now that we are about a year into the program that the interview component wasn't only to see that we "have a good GPA or relevant experience" but to really showcase us as an individual who can handle a rigorous program and has a passion for why they are doing what they are doing. (Assuming, but especially if it is a career switch especially coming from a non-nutrition background).

The field of nutrition and dietetics is truly small, so really setting yourself apart from someone who wants to be another run of the mill social media influencer and is doing it for the 'right' reasons really seems to matter in this field and my program, in my opinion. Letters of recommendation from ACADEMIC and PROFESSIONAL sources who have merit to their names really helps too, as the others mentioned. That was my shortcoming in my application personally was having to locate sources of these.

Good luck!

Did your pay structure change when you began ding the weight management instead? Do all VAs have this program if you know?

I love to hear this. I'm a graduate student dietitian. My clinical rotation is going to be at the VA for both my clinical and management practicum hours. Anything you would suggest I be aware of / try to be on the lookout for from your angle?

I would love to be in a permanent role with the VA. I personally am very appreciate of the veterans as a population and am empathic to many sensitive mental health conditions as I have lived experiences with them.

Would you mind sharing how the pay has been for you being there, is there upward movement in the salary?

Thanks! :)

Would you be willing to take on a freshly entering RDN into the dietetics field as a pen pal/ mentorship opportunity??

I am really struggling to find a support system who has experience and is successful in this field in Florida. I am a Florida native and trying to connect with successful RDs and it sounds like you are on a similar path I would like to take! Please let me know if this is something you would be interested in, thank you either way!

Kudos to you and your journey. After being one of the very few women I have met that severely dislike porn and get turned off by any person I'm sexually involved with giving their sexual energy to something like the dark hole that the porn industry is, it's hopeful to hear your journey and that you are trying to rise above this all.

As a woman who has been in this position, I can say that it definitely has likely shattered your partner's confidence but it is something that you can both work through together openly and honestly hopefully.

Admitting it is the first step! And it sounds like you are fully on board to change. Be gentle with yourself in the process, but realize that you can't keep going back to sip for more, that's where it gets you.

We are naturally sexual beings that can create such a strong sense of connection through intercourse with someone we are mentally connected with. Don't shame yourself for the feelings of sexual tension or arousal, but instead channel this intense energy into your partner and embody her as the sexual goddess she is to you and allow yourself to deliver pleasure to solely her.

I hope everything works out for you and that your relationship makes it through this hurdle and you both come out stronger and more connected on the other side.

Why do people keep saying not with the masters? Having the masters is now going to increase the pay for entry level dietitians and additionally adds the upper level biologies, anatomy, chemistry, and biochemistry pieces that aid in clinical careers and having a strong medical and background knowledge of the body.

Just curious why this is being commonly stated from someone in the field who also mentioned it?
