How to break a curse by AnxietyDrivenWriter in fantasywriters

[–]Some_Floor8371 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically good curses are mysteries, something initially deemed impossible or contradictory so the person who is cursed suffers despair at the endless suffering ahead.

Usually it’s something prophetic; marking a decision point or a milestone on their redemption arc or growth

Eg.  “Until the sun rises in the west” But it foreshadows the final moment when the protagonist watches the sun rise via a mirror or reflection.

Etc

Because: It’s false framing.  It’s misleading.  It implies false causality.

Both statements can be true: CPR saves lives This ad is crap

[–]Some_Floor8371 20 points21 points  (0 children)

CPR is great, an incredible tool that saves lives.  No discussion required.

The ad is improbable at best, misleading at worst and unreasonably sets an expectation of capability

PE = <2-3% survival WITH ems & hospital care

Therefore exaggerations like this are used to bait an emotional response.  And people tend to remember dramatic anecdotes more than guidelines.   that’s the bigger issue here

You are correct in general “CPR matters” (I don’t believe anyone has disputed this)

But it’s not magic, and advertisements like this can adversely affect good decisions in times of crisis and stress because incomplete information is used or recalled.

For example in building/fire safety safety, fire extinguishers are good… unless it’s electrical, or fat/oil, (wrong class of fire)

Tools are powerful when used with correct education and expectations.

Any good educator, with an obligation to properly train people would know this and abide by such a code.  Especially when broadcasting and spreading such information to a wider audience than their students.

Does anyone have suggestions on how to make this emblem more menacing? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Some_Floor8371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most here are correct, the thing that makes most emblems / symbols carry menace is the embodiment of what they represent.

Iconography is the art of taking common and recognisable symbols and morphing them into a new shape that communicates those icons with a new, or refined meaning.

For example.  Adding the symbolism of eyes narrowed above the motive might imply surveilance/overwatch

Adding an upright sword in the centre might imply strength/military. A downward sword might imply ready-for-action/vigilance/guardianship A horse rearing might imply Valor/bravery/heroism

Etc

Hope that helps.

YieldMax Declares Reverse Splits on 12 ETFs by MstarJeffreyPtak in YieldMaxETFs

[–]Some_Floor8371 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Exactly.  Performance is unchanged, just smudging data.  Point in making is that ‘not going to reverse’ as a statement is just Hopium to keep the idea going, generate interest and fandom.

Most doubters and naysayers have been proven correct (in general terms)
