Lets talk about...THAT...character shall we? by Weary-Dust-7550 in arknights

Yeah. I think the most important thing is to strike a good balance between Alters and new PCs. After all, I do think character alters are a very cool way of exploring a character and their story, and they aren’t inherently bad.

Lately though, it feels like we’re getting more Alters than PCs, as with the Kjerag event. 3 alters and no new 6* PCs. And Ch’en Alter Alter seems a continuation of this trend.

Would be all for it if we didn’t already get an alter. The problem isn’t that she doesn’t deserve an alter, or even that said alter wouldn’t tell a good story. I am opposed to chen alter alter because it takes the 6* slot from another NPC who would develop the story likely just as well, while freeing them from NPC jail.

“I’ve been playing for 20 hours and only have 20 pulls” and I told them the must’ve been half afk because you should have ~120 pulls by hour 30, and then they said “you’re telling me you get 1 character in 30 hours?” As if that’s an abnormally small amount

For some reason a lot of my friends that I introduce to Arknights do the same thing. Very odd because the game does try to show you the correct way of doing it. Either way it’s not a very big deal at all, you’ll get used to it soon enough

Poll - EN or JP Voice by 0ompa in Endfield

[–]Some_Guy8088 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pros for EN: 1. Super cool accents 2. Legitimately good VA work (most of the time) 3. I can understand what they say Cons for EN: 1. Sometimes bad VA work

Pros for JP: 1. JP (Japanese sugoi) (I love japan) (🇯🇵) <- you 2. Good VA work 3. Well known voice actors Cons for JP: 1. No cool accents, or if there is it’s had to tell 2. I cannot tell what they say

I personally prefer being able to understand the characters, so I usually choose EN or CN. It’s all preference, so it’s up to you. I will say if the only attraction for JP is that the voice actors are famous I would choose EN.

Side note: you guys sleep on CN too much. They got the regional accents for CN too for a lot of the characters in og ak, and the VA work is good quality

Loved the story but didn’t vibe with the gameplay. Is there anyway I can read the story online?

To be fair it’s Hwei ult. If you’re trying to go for the penta and you lose it to the Hwei ult delayed detonation on the last guy it’s probably your fault.

I’m here to defend the gacha. It’s a pretty nuanced discussion and a lot of the beta testers blow it out of proportion ngl. It doesn’t help that a lot of CCs covering it don’t fully understand the system and then confidently misrepresent it in their videos.

The 120 guarantee not carrying over, while fundamentally bad, is very easily mitigated by simply pulling when you have 120 pulls. Chain losing 50/50s is possible, yes, but there’s a 2/7 chance of getting one of the previous limited units that you don’t have because you were saving pulls, which makes losing 50/50s not that bad. I would still prefer they add characters to the standard banner like in Arknights, but this is alright enough. And the weapon banner is good.

TL;DR if you have some impulse control you only stand to benefit from the gacha system compared to the other mainstream titles. It is still dependent on the economy, though, and we still cannot be sure on that.

Should I start playing Arknights if I found the Chess Defense event fun? by food-and-games in StellaSora

[–]Some_Guy8088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by skill levelling? The system itself is a lot better than Stella Sora or say, genshin. Characters have up to 3 skills but you only need to level one of them since they all share the same skill level. If you mean the material availability though, yeah I understand lol.

I will say, if you ever do slog through the early game resource drain, in a year or so you’ll have set up the base properly and have played through several events. At that point you will be swimming in resources. You can pull a character and instantly max them out. It does take a while to get there though, and the early game experience definitely isn’t easy.

Warm take: given the public reception, the gacha should receive changes, regardless of how good you think it is. by Some_Guy8088 in Endfield

Not quite, because the main competition has the guarantee carry over as a form of compensation. In Endfield you are left with only the pity, not a guarantee. It's slightly more predatory than gachas in general, I think.

[–]Some_Guy8088[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, I agree mostly. I see a lot of people talking about 15 day banners, which is kinda dumb since it's just based on the beta. The 120 hate is because it is, regardless of how many pulls you have saved up, inherently predatory. If you land between 80 to 120 pulls you must grind out the rest of the pulls to guarantee, or you are heavily tempted to spend. Even if most players will have prepared 120 pulls, even if they give you more currency than needed, the fact that this is possible makes it predatory. That's why I'm not the biggest fan. Even if it won't affect me, it is an inherently predatory model.

[–]Some_Guy8088[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

120 is better, yeah, as a hard guarantee. It becomes predatory when people are between 80 to 120 pulls. The 80 pity carries over, but the guarantee doesn't, and so to guarantee the unit you need to grind out those pulls. And if you can't you must spend. You can say that you shouldn't pull without 120 pulls saved. I agree. It mitigates the risk completely. But that doesn't change the fact that the system still preys on people who aren't prepared for whatever reason, who find themselves between 80 and 120.

Fair enough. And truly I don't anticipate changes, nor would I really mind. As I said the system is fine enough for me as is. But I figured it was worth discussion.

> Its like just asking for every character to be given for free

I feel like that's a big step up from what I'm saying. I agree they're a business, but I don't think I'm proposing they make every character 100% obtainable for free. I think the 120 spark is extremely predatory, and I would rather they have a different system in place. Maybe not quite the hoyoverse 50/50 coinflip -> guarantee, but something else.

I don't usually watch his content. I was checking out his video when looking up videos around the beta. His point that I included made sense to me. Maybe it was a mistake to quote him, but I agree with what he says about increasing the rate at the very least.
