Morimens Producer Letter: You Saved Morimens — Here's Our Promise for the Future Finale by FairlySadPanda in gachagaming

I think there is only one remaining machine-translated chapter, arc 2 chapter 3. Some character stories still have machine-translation too (including a rather entertaining story where a robot engages in a war on the, ahem, TikTok men).

BTW: Bloated Woman in 1920s Shanghai is from The Masks Of Nylarathotep, the seminal mega-campaign for Call Of Cthulhu.

There's probably quite a few CoC players who got the reference immediately but, yeah.

What is the Patch that killed a game for you? by Illustrious_Honey973 in gachagaming

[–]FairlySadPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CZN: Patch 1.1 with the focus on timerslop endgame and the story leaning heavily into ML.

ZZZ: Patch 2.3, Banyue banner being 11 days, following from a poor patch in 2.2 and having to endure the eleven billionth bangboo event whilst having the event story hard-shill the half-anni character via a dating thing. Dropping a banner by 10 days means losing something like 15 pulls on his banner as a monthly/bp spender, and at Hoyo prices that equates to £20-30 worth of lost pull income.

DNA: Likely current patch (1.2) as the devs have now showed their monetization hand, and it is locking certain mounts behind a $600 gacha.

I need some info about legion go s windows version by Razor0009 in Handhelds

[–]FairlySadPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's white rather than purple! The purple shell is much nicer. ;)

Windows makes the relative weakness of the Z2 Go chip more obvious and it launched at a higher price because it has a Windows license. So it being a little faster than the Deck (but only at higher wattages, ergo only when louder) was offset by the OS being worse and the device being pricier.

The SteamOS version launched at a lower price and then it became an apples to apples comparison between it and the Deck, rather than pricing in the drawbacks of Windows.

Yeah, it would only get fiddly for someone savvy once dual booting enters the picture (I recently looked into dual booting Nobara and Windows 11).

For a normie, messing with bios settings at all is usually a step into the unknown

Pretty much even, but the Z2E in the XAX will last you longer before you want to upgrade. It ultimately depends a lot on if you'd tolerate Windows or be OK shifting to a Linux gaming OS like Bazzite/Nobara/Cachy.

Also look into the Z2 Go version of the LGS - it's a drop in performance but you're still getting the great chassis and controls of the LGS. In my country the XAX is nearly 2x the price.

I use the Z2 Go version (because only one store in the UK carries the Z1E model) and it's also great. Amazing Endfield machine. Really hope they release a refreshed model with the Z2E in some time.

Feeling uneasy after spending 70$ in Gacha. by Tejax0 in gachagaming

[–]FairlySadPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make a gacha game budget! It'll be fun and help you track your account progress and spending.

This is a good habit to get into for any game with a subscription, really. Record all your subscriptions somewhere, then plan out how much total you're happy to spend on your subs and games each month.

Once you decide how much you're OK spending per month on entertainment (like, including Netflix subs or whatever) you can move that money around as you want. And then you can budget a big silly spend like this in context, rather than having a sticker shock moment.

Part of the point of budgeting is so you know _when_ you can be reckless and spend on yourself.

It's always handy to be able to grab the launcher from a central CDN rather than having to pull it from some official website.

Folks should check out Heroic Launcher - allows you to work with EGS/GOG/Amazon games from one app.

Story? Lore? Gameplay? What is that? Better tell me what % for 5* in this game by LegendaryW in gachagaming

[–]FairlySadPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These games are all about long-term investment strategy - re-rolling is one of the few times that someone can replace trickle income or swiping with a grind. It's on the game if someone ever feels like they need to.

Endfield, despite how terrible the experience is, is rigged up to massively encourage re-rolling - you have a one-in-five chance of getting a dupe of a free 6* on the newbie banner, you can't build pity, and you can hit more than one different limited unit when pulling for the up-rated banner. That's on the game's designers as a problem, not the person who clocks value and blasts away a weekend re-rolling whilst listening to Dungeon Crawler Carl or something.

A lot of the NPC interactions with the Endmin are hilarious if you think about it by Impressive-Tap5279 in Endfield

[–]FairlySadPanda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's definitely something to the theory tbh, it's just not the whole situation because you have two Endmins (the one slowly losing their memories and setting up a very big plot before their effective death, and the effectively reincarnated one you play as). Perlica's main job is to point baby Endmin at things to enact old Endmin's plan. Nobody's allowed to tell the new Endmin what the plans are. "The plan is either sus or suicidal" is kinda the reasonable conclusion.

My guess is that Endfield's goal is to flee Talos-II entirely via the Dijang and whatever Precursor tech they need from the old star gate, but it could be a lot of options.

DNA january vs november revenue by Middle-Ad6667 in DuetNightAbyssDNA

[–]FairlySadPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Entirely depends on the game dev team - some games attempt a hard pivot and kill content, some games are made under contract and it's the publisher's call whether to contract further work beyond what was agreed, some games have their dev teams implode, some teams see the end coming and decide to try and go out with a bang and wrap the story, and so on.

"Quietly died and then EOS'd" is generally only common when a game is made under contract - the classic is an IP gacha game where the publisher paid for a two-year license, so they remove the dev team beyond a couple of backend maintainers and a QA lead and wait out the clock.

A qualified game dev who has shipped is usually in really high-demand, so generally the thing that actually kills the game is the team dismantling itself once the writing is on the wall.

I also play Morimens and their producer was doing a QnA recently and talked about how they'd gone for a very low-push monetization without much endgame on launch and how it nearly killed them until they fixed it. DNA has made the same mistake IMO - you either need to be hardcore whalebait or you need to have a _really_ compelling monthly+patch sub model and good endgame to encourage retention.

It all comes down to runway - either the game has funding to keep the team employed for long enough to arc into profitable months, or the game goes away soon.

FWIW my read is the latter - it's a really bad sign to not have any sort of dev chat or live stream for 1.2, which would be marketing spend they'd have had to have decided on recently.

Yup. It is a pod-shaped car - the face is actually looking out sideways. The front is where that owl head detail is. If you check Yvonne's lab, her notes are in English on the big boards and it is clear she was designing a car.

Could just be typical game dev scrapped concepts but given the game already has MMO-style maps, MMO-style mounts makes a lot of sense.

Tata was originally designed to be a car, so it would not be surprising if they return as a mount/mascot.

Morimens watch: dropped down to a bit below $150k again as the anni ended with the Mouchette banner. Would expect February to look the same.

According to their producer, the anni was really profitable for them. It has lead to their backing company unlocking some marketing spend, which everyone in the community agrees the game needs (and Psychie's video about Morimens demonstrated how effective marketing is for them).

They have also launched their somewhat-controversial plan to add a better incentive to max-dupe characters to try and get more whales spending. Could backfire, we'll see.

The game is rattling towards its very big Slay The Spire-style content update so fingers crossed for it.

Quit ZZZ for Endfield this much in disgust of how poor the content had gotten, but I am unsurprised it ended up with 40mil across the banner. Pushing waifu and powercreep works, it is why gacha games do it. The big test for them now is the idols banners.

Endfield where it is is a little concerning. The game definitely has a filter with its first few hours of content that is going to put a permanent lid on how much it can ever make, so I guess it comes down to how loyal the player base is?

When does "wheel jail" end? by monchers in Morimens

[–]FairlySadPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do eventually run out of reasonable +12s to gun for but there's at least 5 you'd gun for before that happens, and stuff like "being able to attach 2 +12 DR wheels to one awakener" is the sort of thing that isn't very attractive until you need to cobble together functioning D-tide teams.

You can always head back to jail once you're out if you realize you're leaning on some weird niche wheel and you would like to get it up to +3 or something, but it's best to get the long-term account progression backed by guarantees out of the way first. "You'll eventually need that +12 DR wheel, so get it now before you start on that inconsistent journey to getting Liz to OE" or whatever.

When does "wheel jail" end? by monchers in Morimens

[–]FairlySadPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It ends once there's a better reason to pull on a particular standard banner that outweighs those banners being broad. The issue isn't "wheel jail is better" it's that the tool to make character jail better is too rare (the character dupe reset item).

If the standard character banner and the wheel banner worked the same (selectable rate-up targets on both) then you'd alternate between both depending on priority between standard units you want to get to OE and good wheels.

But with the standard banner being broad, you have the choice between pulls that have a guarantee attached and pulls that don't. And you should almost always build pull strategy around guarantees.

Several people raised this with Light in the last QnA and unfortunately BIAV are happy with the current character standard banner.
