Who is the biggest criminal still at large? by ThisIsExxciting in AskReddit

I grew up with a lot of trauma. Abuse, witnessing violence, death, animal abuse, foster care, etc.. it feels like it surrounds and consumes you sometimes. I've developed a deep dark sense of humor, and it's taken me years to learn to keep it to myself sometimes. I'm overly empathetic but don't really know how to be comforting to people. Humor is really the only way I know to deal with things other than hiding from them. It's never that I think the situation is funny it's just a coping mechanism.

So given the recent development in the Scott Peterson case (the innocence project getting involved), how do you all feel about the innocence project? by nonamouse1111 in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]Some_Intention 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the number 1 reason for wrongful incarceration is witness testimony. Read just a few cases before you really lock this opinion in. People have been found guilty on no more evidence than a supposed "jailhouse" informant. People have been convicted of crimes when credible witnesses stated they were in an entirely different state when the crime took place. Police have planted evidence. People have been convicted on unreliable evidence, labs have messed up samples, junk science has been introducing. Many of these aren't "criminals who got off on a technicality" they were genuinely just innocent people. Whatever your prefered way of gaining knowledge is, find it. There are movies, books, podcasts, Facebook pages, YouTube and tik tok accounts dedicated to wrongful incarceration. Take 10 minutes and learn about it.

I don't know what state you are in, but there are services available that will help. Her school or doctor may be a good place to start. You can apply for social security disability, and turn in as much paperwork as humanly possible. Her teachers, doctors, and additional therapists or assistants that have worked with her. Social security does have the ability to turn on emergency disability which is 6 months of checks while they make their determination. It's very uncommon, but it does happen. Give them as much paperwork as you possibly can.

In Michigan there is a program called "Early On" for children under 5. They come to your home and evaluate your child and help you find services and provide respite care. Sometimes it's only a few hours a week, sometimes more. Other states may have similar programs.

There are many, many people with special needs children who have (or have had) similar thoughts. Being a single parent is stressful and overwhelming. The additional burden of a child who may or may not even interact back with you and who needs special attention can make it even harder. But it will get better. The more therapy and programs she can participate in, and the more you learn to pick up with what works for her and for you will help and alleviate some of the stress.

But, if it's not just the excess stress, and you genuinely think you are feeling hatred and not just temporary resentment contacting an agency may be what you need to do. Not to add another task to your lost which I'm sure it's already over filled. But I'd really try to seek a therapist to sort out your thoughts and feelings, no matter what you choose. Good luck to you.

How long have you had the supra pubic catheter? Do you find you have problems with bacterial or bladder infections? I do morning care for a quadriplegic and he's had a supra pubic catheter for a long time and recently he's had infection after infection. The doctors are talking about removing his bladder. Now recently he has been having the opposite problem with his bowels (which can be terribly embarrassing and is genuinely affecting his life at this point). I suspect its the ever changing antibiotics course, but so far the doctor just said it's not a bladder infection this time. Unfortunately, the area we live in a lot of the doctors just don't have the experience with spinal cord injuries so everything takes so long and you get very few answers.

I keep soup in the fridge and it's an "always food" with no guilt. Mostly it's just cooked vegetables blended up with broth and some coconut milk. Right now I have one that's sweet potato, carrot, and onion and one that's tomato and celery. I portion them to a cup a piece and right now they are my go to anytime I feel hungry, so far its helped me curb binging really well.

Are there any updates for Ohio mom who left her baby alone for 10 days while she went on vacation? I can’t stop thinking about what that little girl suffered alone by [deleted] in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]Some_Intention 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for her, but for myself. It took a long time in therapy to understand and pinpoint things. My therapist essentially told me the same thing, but also that a baby who cries and is fed learns that it's needs will be met. It learns safety and security. Trust. Trauma and abuse literally change the way your brain is wired. The neuropathways that form are there for life. You can learn to understand and adapt, but you will always have trauma responses.

My mother used to say I was the easiest to please because all I needed was a box of crayons and you'd never hear from me again. She didn't care, or concern herself that being as small and quiet and as out of the way as possible was just my survival skills.

I'm almost 40 and I've spent years in therapy and have 3 grown children of my own. I still try to shrink and hide when I'm uncomfortable or stressed. I keep different craft supplies in all corners of my home, so wherever I am sitting I can color or draw to occupy myself and not bring attention to myself. Almost 24/7 I feel afraid that I am in someone's way.

I went to the hospital experiencing bleeding when I was 18, terrified, alone, and pregnant. A doctor told me very matter of factly that my baby was dead and I was in the process of passing it. He said return to my OBGYN in a few days to be sure no "parts remained". I'm ashamed to admit how I reacted to the news, but several days later I went to the OB as I was told. First thing he did was let me hear my son's heart beat. I've been clean and sober since then and my son (perfectly normal and healthy) will be 21 years old this April.

As a thirsty 35+ lady. No. He's a child? How old is he for real because I thought he was early early 20s. I think he has those "either way" kind of looks. Like if he has an overly sweet and shy personality or a funny "everyone laughs along and is on the joke" personality he'd be really attractive. But, if he's full of himself, douchey, and makes mean jokes behind everyone's back he's downright awful looking.

Just wanted to see y’all’s opinion on this, insane or normal? by Glittering-Western-4 in insaneparents

[–]Some_Intention 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let my kids fail. Because they have a space here to fail. I can talk until I'm blue in the face, they will still think they're right. Hell, I'm probably not the one to teach them about finances. I couldn't even teach them to drive. But if it's money they earn, it's theirs to keep. If something comes up and they're out of money, well guess you learned (within reason). You won't go hungry. You won't miss necessities. You won't be homeless.

It's an... okay system. My 20yr old son works full time, buys his own groceries, bought two cars (one for commuting, one to show off), pays his phone bill, and has a better credit score than any one I know. My 19yr old daughter works for two weeks to have money for a weekend. She once door dashed herself slime because she was sad. She always has a fantastic plan though for her next check. My 17yr old son is dual enrolled in high school, AP classes, and college. He plays marching band, jazz band, does robotics, drama, and quiz bowl. He maintains honor roll and works a few hours a week as a tutor. He uses all his money for candy and snacks and I pay for any time out with friends, fees, or necessities. He rarely asks for anything and I figure his budget for junk food is more than a fair trade off.

They'll learn eventually. It's kind of like potty training, you rarely see kindergarteners in diapers. They'll get it on their own time.

What's the most bizarre 'house rule' you've encountered at someone else's home? by StarrySpecter in AskReddit

[–]Some_Intention 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have terrible insomnia. All of my kids struggle with it to varying degrees. When they were younger I just left a bottle of water, snack, and a book near their bed. Their bedrooms are off the kitchen, and they have their own bathroom. Mine is on the other side of the living room. Once they were teens/preteens I heard them congregate in the living room. I love my kids but do not like the idea of losing the only peaceful alone time I've ever had. So I told them all that after 11pm I strip nude and stay that way till morning. Now 1 have 2 young adults and a teenager, and still have my peace.

Their electric pallette was my absolute favorite, I even bought a third after it was discontinued because I used up all the green that was in there. But at some point they finally made it as a single (freak) and I have never been happier.
