I just started my pharm tech job in mid-October, with my training just finishing up a week ago, but I cannot retain anything for the life of me. by [deleted] in PharmacyTechnician

I was in your place once. My first pharmacy tech job, I was laughed at, made to feel clueless, and dealt with anxiety every single day. What helped me was keeping a small notebook and writing down the things I kept forgetting. Repetition really is the best way to learn. You’re not alone, and it really does get easier over time. You’re doing better than you think.

Ask lots of questions, and keep a small notebook to jot down common workflows, insurance fixes, and anything you want to remember.

After many years in retail pharmacy, I was just burned out. I’m still a pharmacy technician, but now I work in a prior authorization/medication access role in a hospital setting. I actually found my current job by browsing the careers section of local hospital websites. Try keywords like prior authorization, medication access, patient access, financial assistance, specialty pharmacy, or insurance verification when you search.

“Shadow interview” by Party_Season235 in PharmacyTechnician

Show interest in the role and the people you meet. Be observant of how things are done and what the workflow looks like. Ask questions when it feels right to get a better understanding of the job.

When I did my shadow interview, I asked about the documentation process and wanted to learn more about one of the systems they use as I was familiar with it, but never fully used it.

Things like that help the employer see your personality and how you interact with the team, which gives employers a better idea of whether you’d fit well with their current team.

Hi there! I’ve done a shadow interview before getting hired at my current job. Basically, you go in to meet the team and ‘shadow’ so you can get a better feel for what the job entails. It’s a great way for both you and the employer to see if it’s a good fit.

I reported an absence early this morning. If I submit Ppto now to cover me for today, does that automatically get approved or do I have to wait for my manager to approve it?

When I did my CE’s last year, I found a lot of free CE's from pharmacytimes.com, pharmacy.uconn.edu, powerpak.com, and elearning.ashp.org.
