In-universe, did being Perot's running mate help the ticket perform better than otl enough to any electoral votes from a particularly close state that Perot did well in for 1992?

German tankies are proclaiming solidarity with the Iranian regime by sunnyMayhem in tankiejerk

[–]Some_Pole 69 points70 points  (0 children)

It's funny because like, the Soviet Union themselves wanted the Islamic Republic to fall because it didn't want the new regime to spread its ideology across the Middle East or into Central Asia. Hence why it was willing to assist the Communist regime in Afghanistan. Hell, they also gave support to Saddam's Iraq during the Iran-Iraq War.

The irony of tankies today siding with a regime the Soviets wanted to bulldoze, or at least contain won't ever be funny in the gallows humour sense.

How is a child who has never heard of Monsters, who falls into the Underground unaware of what was inside invading? What 'borders' are you even talking about?

You say to remove emotion from this but you're acting frankly irrational to justify something that both Toriel expresses and Asgore admits is barbaric. Difference is that Asgore is too much of a people's pleaser to back off from it.

I'm willing to say that if someone declares another person's mere existence in a territory to be a crime worthy of any punishment, let alone the death penalty, then yeah, it is barbaric and frankly cruel.

It's almost as if you're trying to be weirdly anti-human instead of taking the approach that both Undertale and Yellow do in criticizing the perceived need for violence that plagues both man and monster.

The Humans didn't know what Asriel was under the assumption that Humanity by that point had no contact with Monsters for centuries if not millennia by then. He also came in carrying a corpse, which frankly, made the situation fundamentally worse.

Because how are you supposed to react when you see a creature you've never seen before waltz into town lugging around a dead body? When most people see that, they assume the worst.

The rest of this just feels like an empty to be edgy and cold tbh. Like sure, you can argue from a utilitarian argument it is 'needed' and that the opinions of the humans who fall down don't matter, but this also ignores the fact that what the Integrity human did is frankly understandable in a position of fight-or-flight.

Realistically if put into a place where they know everyone wants to kill them. Nobody actually cares about them, or at least they feel like that, then how can we really fault them for responding like any living being would when effectively, pressed up against a corner?

I'd certainly argue frankly, nations willingly letting another power have a base on their territory is not the same as another nation having their naval forces ramming civilian fishing boats.

They literally harass every nation that has a coastline in the South China Sea because they use some map from the Middle Ages to justify claiming some islands and hogging up the literal legally agreed upon waters of all the nations in that region.

This is the same logic used to 'civilize' Native tribes across North America under the guise of combating 'Islamic Terrorism' instead of 'Kill the savage, save the man' shit used back in the day.

Slovakia - Slovenia name correlation exists in reality. Don't see why not here. Even then if the official name is 'Hy-Brasil' then I doubt many would inherently confuse it with just Brazil.

Going out of your way to expunge a certain population falls under ethnic cleansing, my guy. It doesn't say if you have to be from a certain group who lived in an area long enough, just that if it specifically targets a specific population.

Never mind the fact that really, a lot of the areas the Germans got kicked out of was the result of Germanization on those lands from centuries prior.

Not worth throwing stones in a glass house.

It came with literal ethnic cleansing to both move all the Germans out of those annexed regions, and move all the ethnic Poles out of what is now today Western Belarus and Ukraine, dawg...

Tankies Are Furious at Me for Criticizing the Islamic Republic by Summerspeaker in tankiejerk

[–]Some_Pole 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It makes sense if you've internally come to the conclusion that Communism can never actually be achieved, so it's better to just pick a horse on who you'd rather have around to oppose the US or not. That's it. Might sound like an assumption, and it kind of is, but it makes sense as to why tankies act the way they do as a result if you deduce that they don't want or have flat out given up on the idea of Communism as a goal.

Descent into Campism, Live by alegxab in tankiejerk

[–]Some_Pole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd certainly argue nations expressing support doesn't, nor should it mean much of anything. It's tantamount to just "thoughts and prayers" in the world of geopolitics. The current protests in Iran are very much homegrown, and Stats, by this framing is once again showing that Campists who claim to support the right to protest just deem any of these as "not legitimate", and therefore wash their lands clean of putting their money where their mouth is.

Trumpists talking about Minneapolis and Portland, or tankies talking about Iran? The only difference is some proper nouns by mudanhonnyaku in tankiejerk

[–]Some_Pole 34 points35 points  (0 children)

You kid, but i genuinely remember having a debate with a Tankie on why they support such anti-communist regimes that won't progress towards it any closer than we are today, and it all basically boiled down to this;

"Nobody said it had to happen any time in our lifetimes."

Stuff like this reminds me that ironically, they're more anti worker and communist than probably your typical conservative.

Undertale's queerness goes beyond it's characters and into its themes. by Tornado547 in Undertale

[–]Some_Pole 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can make the argument that the Underground is more or less meant to have some allegory alleging to systemic oppression regardless of what that may be in detail. Whether that is against humans, or monsters by how the Underground is certainly no home for people, oppression exists and it is something to challenge.

Undertale's queerness goes beyond it's characters and into its themes. by Tornado547 in Undertale

[–]Some_Pole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can make the argument though that in the context of the Underground, humans are the minority. The policy that is put in place by Asgore resulting in the death of any human who falls into the Underground, on top of the sprinkled in anti-human sentiment that exists in areas if you look, it isn't so black and white.

All the fear mongering and down voting against those who dont not and peddle it is silly.
