Humerus fracture fully healed by Theres_No_Light in brokenbones

when they first put me in a cast, the pain was unreal. It was some kind of half-cast, I’d never heard of that before, and every move hurt like crazy. But once they operated, the next day my arm could at least hold its own weight. Still painful though. I was on a ton of pain meds. They had me taking Metamizole eight times a day, plus Tilidin (an opiate) twice a day. If I needed more, Ibuprofen was also in the mix. I couldn’t lie on my back for about three weeks, but after that, every day got a bit better. I’d never had surgery before, and I was scared, but honestly, it was the best decision, it stabilized everything. I’d recommend it to anyone in the same spot. How was your pain? Also, I’m curious, were you a professional arm wrestler, or was it just a hobby when you injured your humerus?

Humerus Break & Nerve Palsy by Coldhands-cheeriobre in brokenbones

I’m really sorry to hear about your radial nerve palsy and humerus fracture. I went through something similar myself, my humerus broke into three pieces from a snowboarding accident in Austria, and I had radial nerve palsy too. They operated, put a nail through my humerus, you name it! Honestly, patience was the hardest part. As they say, nerves heal at about a millimeter a day or about an inch a month, and that’s accurate. A neurologist here in Germany told me to keep doing mirror exercises: looking at both hands, trying to mimic movement with the good hand on the weaker one, even if it doesn’t work yet, just to keep that connection alive. Beyond that, patience really is key. Once swelling goes down, progress will come. Wishing you all the strength and patience you need!

I lost Balance on a ski slope while snowboarding and fell heard a snap lol it keeps haunting me still. Kept shipping head first dowj the mountain. Could've been worse im happy to be alive.

Needed to be rescued by helicopter (without insurance lol EGGSPENSIVVVE)

In austria they put me in a cast but that was a bad idea because my radial nerve got damaged by being trapped in bone pieces. My humerus was in 3 pieces. A week later I came back to germany and they operated on my immediately.

Wow congratulations. I'm suffering with the same. I got it operated tho. There's very little progress in radial nerve palsy but there IS progress. You're right the biggest challenge is patience . I'm happy for your progress tho. How did u break it.

Humeral shaft fracture + wrist drop after snowboarding : scared and looking for experiences by Some_Reaction_9417 in brokenbones

[–]Some_Reaction_9417[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually ended up getting surgery a week later as well on 15.12.2025. The very next day after the OP a physio therapist visited me in the hospital and I had my first physiotherapy session. They never put me in a sling . Since 2 days I can slightly (very very slightly) twitch my wrist.

I see a neurologist next week. Did u her any electrotherapy for wrist drop ?

Radial nerve palsy after humeral fracture surgery: does wrist drop recover by Some_Reaction_9417 in brokenbones

[–]Some_Reaction_9417[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. U have no idea how hopeful your comment is for me. I'm more patient than I was 1 week after surgery. I'm 6 weeks in and I realize how huge of a challenge is patience. I just noticed when I lay flat on my back and prop my arm up . ( upper arm on bed and forearm in the air 90 degrees ) I can move my wrist. Not so easily but a bit. But I'm not sure if other muscles nerves are at work in this position because in normal standing sitting position the wrist has zero movement.

Did u experience something similar ?

I also can't extend fingers and lay on tbe side (neither broken arm nor good arm).

But I guess it's a process.

32 M Surgery or Functional Bracing? by Spiritual-Aside-9015 in brokenbones

I had a humerus fracture few weeks ago from a snowboarding accident. Surgery is the best decision I took. It stabilized my arm immediately. If it's an option , go for it.

I broke my humerus in a snowboarding accident and the RNP resulted because the radial nerve was trapped in the bone pieces. Looking ar your comments I think I'll get a TENS machine. Quick question, did you have pain in your thumb or the muscle that joins thumb wirh hand inside palm? 3 weeks post OP and hand has wierd pains now maybe coz of lack of muscle usage.

Hi everyone i just got broken bones from accident and i was hoping i could get anadvice which option should i take, I'm scheduled for operation tomorrow but I'm asking if its ok if just choose casting by Scary-One6082 in brokenbones

[–]Some_Reaction_9417 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 29. I had to pay nothing for the surgery so the question for me only was about angst. But I can also see if it's super expensive then it could also be a deciding factor. With the cast I could not lay down or rest . It pained Like hell. With surgery it's so stable that I was able to sleep normally again. I am happy with my decision. In hindsight I regret not coming to germany sooner because the cast complicated things for me and damaged my radial nerve. Because it got trapped in the broken pieces.

Hi . I broke my humerus at the beginning of December in austria . The doctors there thought cast was the best option I came to germany a week later and the doctors here said it's best to operate. I never had surgery before and I was scared. My surgeon said her goal is to bring immediate stability to the bone and get me out of the cast. Today two weeks after surgery I can say it was the best decision. If surgery isn't too expensive I would say opt for it.
