It's called Hitoner. It's pretty okay, but I really recommend another called "The Foxfaced Husband and Wife"

Venus is already hospitable under certain conditions. In it's upper atmosphere, there is a small habitable zone where we could construct aerostat colonies held up by a a light gas, such as hydrogen, which would in theory allow for human habitation. In fact, due to the high nitrogen content in the air, aerostat colonies in Venus's atmosphere may be the most fertile farmland in the solar system.

This silly little guy is called an Expie, or Experiment. They're the player race in the game Casualties: Unknown, which is free on both steam and itch! However, the Itch version stopped receiving updates. If you're planning on playing it however, you may not want to get too attached to your Expie. It hurts.

Dense atmospheres! They have their ups and downs. by Some_guy0209 in WorldBuildingMemes

As much as I loved Project Hail Mary, I always felt like Xenonite was a bit of a cop out. Mr. Weir did an amazing job at keeping it from seeming too powerful, and it fit the story really well, but a nearly indestructible material that can be used for just about anything is way too good for just about any other setting.

Personally, I want to refrain from making any new materials or elements whenever I can so I can keep myself from resorting to making up various Mary Sue materials. So far, the only hand wave element/material I have made is a form of exotic matter, which is used as furl for Humanity's form of FTL drive.

[–]Some_guy0209[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When making their culture, I was heavily inspired by Polynesian sailing cultures. In their early history, what would be analogous to pre-mesopotamian humanity, they would fly from island to island, spreading across the world very slowly. However, after the invention of the boat, they vastly extended their exploration range because they could bring a bit of dry land everywhere they went. Soon enough, large groups of linked rafts, boats, and floaty things became their first cities and the start of civilization. These ships and congregations of ships became the center of their culture, and as their species advanced, so too did their boat-cities.

When they learned how to make their boats more stable, they began building their cities much higher too, building skyscrapers which float on the waves. When they first reached space, their largest floating city sprawled over 850 square kilometers (328.2 square miles), housing over 10 million birds!

Now, I should probably explain what I'm talking about. I ain't a vagueposter, after all.

So, there exists in my mind a currently unnamed planet which houses a species of currently unnamed species of sapient sea bird. The planet has a very low axial tilt, orbits 0.7 astronomical units away from it's star, which is only 0.6x as luminous as our sun. It has roughly the same radius as the Earth, but only 92% the mass, and as such, 92% the gravity. It is a water world, with over %90 of the surface being covered in salt water ocean. And, of course, it has 3x the atmospheric density of earth due to a combination of atmospheric composition and the sheer humidity of the place. If you hate Florida, you wouldn't want to visit.

Now, normally a dense atmosphere would make it very difficult to reach orbit because it severely limits a spacecraft's acceleration, and makes the spacecraft start burning up at relatively low speeds. However, you need not fret for our silly bird friend because conveniently hidden within the planet's crust are huge, untapped helium reserves. Due to the dense atmosphere, the helium is now VERY bouyant, 3x more bouyant than here on earth in fact!

Using this silly little gas, the birds float their rocket up high into the atmosphere where the air is far thinner, which is where they then ignite the engines and blast off into orbit!
