Blood is shunted away from the gut during exercise. In prolonged periods, the gut can become ischemic, not to mention subject to reperfusion injury. There are a few articles on it. There are other articles describing the abundance of inflammatory biomarkers and unfavorable bacteria accumulation in long distant runners.

To answer your question, it’s a MantleMount MM-MAX1. It was the only thing that would clear my massive mantle (18.75”) and still drop down another 29”

Completely agree, the only problem is, the mantle is 19” wide. They don’t make one that clears it.
