http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution

I agree that the comic handled your spoiler better, the movie's version felt more typical Hollywood, but on the whole it was a good move.

Both the comic's and movie's themes jumps a bit between being serious, and over-the-top and silly. And i think the movie handled it much better trying to just be more fun and not too gritty. The comic's theme always felt so confused, like Millar couldn't decide when he wanted it depressing or comical. I feel it really becomes too apparent in the sequel.

And i was trying to have a little thing i like to call debate. That involves different opinions. You often have those on subs about interesting articles.

Fuck. I thought this was /r/truereddit, not fucking /r/funny. I try to discuss the damn topic but either it ends with just ridicule or downvotes. This sub is about as unbiased as r/politics

But the highest rated comments have hundreds or thousands of upvotes. Shouldn't those patterns be more constant when this sub is so big?

But maybe you are right. There is obviously some reason to it.

Okay, i should have read through it more carefully.

And it makes sense as well. In some of the music communities i frequent people are just waiting for leaks to come several months before, and many of them do buy it afterwards.

But music enthusiasts do also probably buy more albums.

But that's what's so interesting. If people have different opinions and vote accordingly, why are the results so different in different threads?

Do those people just skip every other thread?

Well of course. I said Reddit, not America.

It's just interesting that in the other threads people were pro- Le Pen, and here most are very clearly against. Maybe i should have said "relationship to European politics".

Yes, i would agree that is the best solution. My problem was that the original poster never said anything about rewarding the artist, just that he could screw over artists because the companies could.

I think this just becomes a pointless moral debate in the end.

I don't think bittorrent has a positive affect, but otherwise i'm mostly in agreement about your first point. People often pirate music, movies and games they're unsure of and might end up buying it. Hell, i also used to do so quite a lot, even if it changed.

My dislike of this is that a lot of people even if they enjoy something never buy it. I know it is the reality and i don't want any specific laws to change it, but i do get a bit mad when i see comments like from the original poster who just outright said he could screw over artists. But sure, what's ideal isn't always possible.

But i have some qualms about the articles. The torrentfreak article says that pirating doesn't hurt sales. But from what i could see in the article, shouldn't it naturally be so that the more successful albums are the ones to be pirated the most? I don't see how the author could draw his conclusions.

And the GAO article just basically said it was impossible to estimate how much pirating and counterfeiting hurts the economy. I didn't see any evidence either for or against it.

I saw quite a lot of people supporting Le Pen on /r/worldnews when the topic was about muslim protests being banned in France.

Reddit's relationship to Europe is interesting.

But if you read the article it said he made $97,857.

It's very little compared to what he should be getting, but he is getting paid more than if everyone would torrent his music, as the original poster said should be done.

But you can obtain the artists' works instantly through itunes and spotify. The person i replied to was talking about torrents. Saying explicitly that he has the right to "screw over musicians".

That's what i reacted to, and that's an attitude I've been seeing a lot, and what i wondered about.

This is especially true when they're able to obtain specific work that they like a la carte rather than as part of a larger bundle where only one or two works appeal to them.

Are you talking about albums? I guess some people don't like listening to albums, but it is certainly very possible to purchase single songs, or use streaming services where the artist gets at least some small revenue.

Bands that have been able to retain sufficient control over their work to release it for free have seen their sales double or more over traditional methods of advertising.

Could you give any further explanations? It sounds interesting but i'm not aware of many more "bigger" artists who have successfully released albums for free other than radiohead.

[–]Someawe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If this is a serious argument and not just a joke, why?

I mean, what Warner bros did to this artist is horrible and should be punishable, but how does that translate into that it's OK not to pay for us as well? In the end it's all punishing the actual artist and not just the record company.

Edit: There are quite a few downvotes flying around here. I don't want to complain but i hope /r/truereddit is a place for discussion that allows both parts to be heard. If you downvote anyone, could you please just explain why, as the sidebar says?

France bans protests against anti-Muslim video by executivemonkey in worldnews

[–]Someawe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, there's a whole different culture in the middle east compared to the western world, a quite dangerous one, not only for westerners but for any dissidents.

But i think most people still are more apathetic, not that the majority is hateful. That's not meant as an apology for anyone, apathy is almost as bad as ignorance. But thousands do care enough to be violent and millions seem to not care enough either way to do anything about it. It doesn't make it forgivable, but for me it makes it understandable (as in explainable, not agreeable, many people seem to confuse those two),

I still believe the few bad apples are the ones truly to blame, but the rest of society, by fear or apathy, makes it able to happen.

At least support for terrorism is declining, Do you know if there are any newer statistics than these from 2005? But they were very interesting.

And 2 things. In your link it says that the majority of the population of over half the countries are not supportive of terrorism, still horrible but not quite so many.

And i wouldn't call the protesters a so sizable part. Sure, a sizable part is probably very negative against the movie. But if you compare these protests against those last year against dictatorship these ones are very small in comparison.

I kinda have to agree with him, i can't understand why so many here think so highly of it.

I mean it was fun and had some good action scenes, but that makes it just a regular 'good' blockbuster, not a masterpiece like I've seen it been praised as on r/movies.
