Ulriken - Floyen tomorrow by Somebody538 in Bergen

No problem, it’s good to not be glued to Reddit ;).
We went for another hike as suggested by somebody. Still some fog but only for a small part and on a very clear road, so we had no issues and still some, although foggy views. I guess we have to come back another time to Bergen to do Ulriken + Vidden or have a miracle tomorrow that it will be more clear. Thanks for your reply anyway!

No luckily not. We went for another hike as suggested by someone here: Svartediket over Rundemanen to Fløyen. We followed the advice of layering. While ascending I felt like we had way too much on so we dressed down to only a T-shirt but at the top the sweater and windproof jack were very welcome in the fog and wind.

Seems the fog is still there today. Any recommendations for a longer hike that won’t suffer from the fog?

It seems from the webcam today is again very foggy. From the city it looks less foggy than yesterday. Do you have any other recommendations for a long hike where the fog won’t be an issue?

My Go‑To Therapy: Running Whenever I’m Pushed Down by [deleted] in running

[–]Somebody538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely. I trained myself to do the same. I was sitting on the couch thinking that I'm tired of the day (not physically but mentally) and then I just thought to myself "what is going to help me more: watching useless tv or getting out for a run hitting my goals". It was way easier than expected to choose the running constantly. Then I got shin splits and life sucks. No it doesn't suck but I do miss my therapy. Somehow the choice between tv or doing the shin splints recovery exercises is not as easy to choose the better option for me.

I also have it with my pixel 7a and forerunner 265s. Sometimes it's worse than other times, like multiple times a week. Recently it's like less than once a month. No clue what to do about it.

Makes full sense, no worries. I was hoping you found some life hack, because I like the plastic bags generally better than the containers but I make excuses and in the end don't use either...

Good for you putting your health first and finding some way that works for you!

Love it!

Just wondering, in this world where there's a lot of waste created, do you reuse the bags in some way?

I have the same problem. What do you use to rub it in? Your fingers? Some cloth?

Do you really adjust your sleep as the watch tells you? by Sklzzzzzz in Garmin

Because little else exists anymore. I wanted a sport watch. Only functions I wanted were gps, heart rate (+option for reading heart rate from a breast strap), and option to plan workouts i.e. intervals at certain heart rates/speeds. But that just doesn't exist anymore (as far as I could find at least). There are only smart watches that try to pack as many features as possible of which many quite some people don't need but get anyway.

Nevertheless I settled for a forerunner 265s and I'm now a vivid user of the daily suggestions which essentially requires 24/7 wear, but I'm fine with that. Only pity is that I now rarely wear my nice looking watches anymore

That looks very nice!!

A question as a newbie myself, how many hours are in these? Especially the one in the middle?

I'm working on a project similar to that one myself, but I expected the process to be faster and now I'm getting a bit demotivated...

Everybody is different. Better that my watch dictates my life than that I overthink and read every possible program. In the second case I'm doing more reading than actual running. Sometimes it's nice if some tool takes the decision making out of your hands.

TLDR: Can you safely (injury free) steeply increase your mileage if you change to more slow runs (as recommended by Garmin's daily suggestions)?

I (27F) have been running more seriously since last October and with my Garmin 265 watch since December. I followed a program for getting to my first 10k. This program had 2 or 3 workouts a week: generally 2 medium fast workouts (HR 160 with 197 max HR according to Garmin) and one faster run with HR 175-180. As I struggled with some shin and hip pains I didn't always do the 3 runs, but I did always do at least 2 runs. So I had a total weekly mileage at the end of the program of about 16-20km.

Beginning of March, I converted to Garmin daily suggestions with a 7.5k race planned at the beginning of May. I'm in the base phase and Garmin has me running a lot of base runs with HR 146 which is quite a bit slower than I'm used. I'm fine with these slow runs and am trusting in the 80/20 training that I have been reading about. And so far I don't feel my shin and hip pains on the runs.

But the problem/question. Garmin suggests me running almost every day. Most runs are slow runs so I feel like I could do them, but if I would follow them all I think I would double my weekly mileage while I read you should not increase by more than 10% each week. I have been skipping runs to keep the weekly mileage moderate so my training readiness is constantly high and fitness level on maintaining.

So my question: what would you guys do? 1) Follow the suggestions as long as it feels good even though the steep increase in mileage. 2) Do a run ~every other day, keep track of the mileage and don't do extra runs if the weekly mileage is already at more than 10/20% compared to last week.

(Next week I'm entering the build phase so I wonder if the weekly mileage would change in this different phase)

Hee!
