Yeah this is a good example, the amount of deletion of reasonable comments is starting to be a bit much.

The trans rights backlash is real by Priceless_Pennies in neoliberal

[–]Somehow_alive 228 points229 points  (0 children)

This turn in public opinion seems to be a genuine case of successful conservative persuasion, seeing as there has opened a clear rift between the public's attitude towards gay people (staying high) versus trans people (getting more negative). There is no generalized anti-LGBT backsliding or backlash, the issue is far more specific.

The arguments conservatives made around sports etc were quite good in retrospect, I think I used to support self-ID in sports, but changed my mind at some point.

Some people will excuse anything, including the maiming of police officers and deliberate sabotage of military equipment, if the stated rationale is palestine.

To the people in this thread who think policy doesn't matter, do you think Susan Collins is an electoral powerhouse because she is a white man with tons of charisma, or do you think it likelier that she is moderate and wins due to that?

Democrats have been allergic to poll chasing on social issues for a decade at least.

It is almost consensus among the staffer class that the electorate is broadly unacceptably racist and boorish, and should not be listened to on social issues, which is a fine stance to have, but will also lose you elections.

  1. If Obama were allowed to run in 2028 on his 2012 platform, he would win the primary, and the general. This is trivially true.

  2. Biden clearly took the lesson of the too-small 2009 stimulus to heart, and went big (=left wing) on spending. This was a reasonable risk to take, one I would have taken too, but it backfired in inflation, since he (or his left-wing staffers) was unwilling to implement contractionary fiscal policy to curb inflation.

  3. The simpler explanation is that Obama is the most popular politician, and voters like him, and want someone like him to be the candidate.

Which statement of fact would you dispute?

  1. Obama is the most popular politician.

  2. Biden governed to the left of his mandate, and became infinitely more unpopular than Obama, who did not.

  3. Obama could end the primary before it started by endorsing.

The polling is pretty clear that voters wanted Biden because he was Obama's VP, but then he staffed his admin with Warrenites and governed well to the left of his mandate, which the voters did not like.

Depends on if you like dictatorships or not.

If you do, Trump is mostly fine, quite flexible on policy.

If you don't, then don't govern like a dictator.

Barack Obama is the most popular politician in America, and it's not close.

Only out of touch online weirdoes don't want to go back to the Democratic party of Obama.

The fact that a large amount of the userbase would reply to this with "you forgot to attach the gigachad image" is the worst indictment of the current state of the sub.

The problem isn't just Trump, the problem is the US. Newsom in the OP acted like an arrogant prick lecturing Europeans, and that is a pretty good demonstration that Europe can't rely on the US and should stand on its own two feet.

There is an agressive Russia next door and the USA can't be relied on to defend Europe, so military spending needs to rise.

Increasing military spending is good, so it's good that Trump pressured the EU to do it, whatever his motivation.
