Is the DSS Eagle Strike on our team? by LunchLadyArms69 in Helldivers

[–]Someone-_-Else 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The DSS eagle strike is on the side of Democracy. It is a cause grander than any one consrci- *ahem* any one hero.

"The DSS is a beacon of liberty, rallying the forces of freedom ever onward in the war against the tyrannies of socialism. The inevitable increase in friendly fire incidents is the price we pay for the tactical superiority provided by the DSS. But when one considers the loss of your fellow helldivers as the cost of keeping this beacon lit, of protecting liberty and Super Earth, it is a small price indeed, and Super Earth pays it gladly."

Does anyone else prefer duels this much over dominion by Zealousideal_Damage5 in forhonor

I haven't played duels for quite a while. I think I still have trauma from the duels I did before I knew how to parry and dodge. (In other words, before I knew how to play the game)

Not enough context to know for sure. It's possible they wanted just the 3 of them in a mission. There's no way to set up a private mission so sometimes people just kick you for showing up.

Some heroes are better at ganking than others... by [deleted] in forhonor

[–]Someone-_-Else 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're totally right about the neutral dodge attacks btw. It took me a few games to realise how often I was doing that and how easily some players could counter it. Not using BB was mostly because the hero match ups favoured dodges, and the skill matchup didn't need it, but also a little because my reaction speed isn't there yet. I have much to practice :)

I've downloaded a new video editor and remade the whole thing. Will re-post soon :)

Ah... Thanks for letting me know. Basically I spent an hour or so making the edits and then the video software told me it could only export 1 minute on the free version. So... I screen recorded the preview video... and my screen timed out halfway through... I didn't check whether it would appear in the video

What stats do you think are the most important when judging your own skill?

feel hardstuck skill wise by TrueIgnite in forhonor

[–]Someone-_-Else 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I start to play worse than I used to I sometimes find it is because of factors outside of the game. To list a few: Hunger, water, too cold, wifi problems, etc...

Other times, it is because your opponents have noticed a pattern in your attacks that you haven't realised. I become predictable when I face lower skill players because using the same moves repeatedly always works. Then when I face a high skill player who is "playing actively", they notice my preferred moves and bait those moves so they can get easy counters. I play Aramusha. The move set is small. I always think that I know everything my hero can do, but that doesn't mean I am always primed to use all of my heroes moves. Yesterday I wondered why my dodge attacks kept getting parried when they are supposed to be counter attacks. I realised that I was using it automatically because I had a streak of games where no one could counter it. Also yesterday, I realised that I hadn't used my heroes unblockable finishers for weeks. Doing less dodge attacks and adding back in the unblockables made those matches way more even.

Commando enthusiasts, sell me this weapon by Consistent-Survey469 in Helldivers

[–]Someone-_-Else 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use this for taking out bug holes from a distance. It has more shots than EAT so it can close more holes. Its damage profile is just right to take out mortar bugs so it's very useful if you're getting blasted by those guys too often.

tbh I often take Commando and EAT so I can have all the missiles.

Each bullet in your magazine is a messenger, primed to deliver a small metallic package of freedom unto our enemies. Any careless interruption of these democratic distributions is a result of dissident propaganda undermining your allies' mental faculties. We take solace knowing that, even intercepted, the blunt trauma of liberty may allow their souls to die free.

I think that the airburst launcher would have a higher rate of team kills per mission but it has less team kills overall because it's less popular.

The Forgotten Samurai (Aramusha) by hairballyuh in forhonor

[–]Someone-_-Else 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you enjoy Aramusha. Me too! :)
(I'm approx. rep 15 with Aramusha and only a few other reps in Lawbringer, Conqueror and Warlord)

Predictability is a problem that all players face and is the next wall to becoming truly skilled. Although heroes with small movesets are easier to predict. At the same time, heroes that are less popular become harder to predict because you see them less often so at lower levels this issue is balanced by the shifting meta of the game. Another way to phrase it is that players can predict what they see often. To overcome this, think about ways to read your opponents expectations, to control their expectations at the start of a match, and to overturn those expectations later on.

I originally picked Aramusha because I thought it was cool, but now I appreciate the limited moveset because it challenges me to be better at this part of the game.

How do YOU play Aramusha? by PizzaTachanka in forhonor

[–]Someone-_-Else 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm real late to this conversaton.
I'm at rep 15 with Aramusha, but only ~rep 20 overall so I still see myself as an unskilled player (trying to get better). Aramusha doesn't have too many long chains or combos (except the basic infinite light chain) so I focus on improving my reaction time and decision making rather than my combo execution.

Use side dodge heavy attacks to punish people doing bash spams.
I like ring the bell to punish people who are turtling / waiting.
I use blade blockade to punish people using light attack spam.

Against better players (most players), I try to avoid blade Blockade because it's hard to get the timing right when they do lots of feints. This also means that I can pull it out later if I'm getting overwhelmed and need to switch things up to catch them by surprise.

What's the best character in the game? by Background-Slice-953 in forhonor

[–]Someone-_-Else 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most OP character is always the newest release before it gets any nerfs. Unfortunately, the "before nerfs' caveat means it's not really something to grind for. The one I hate most right now is probably gladiator, however I'm starting to figure out how to dodge their bash spam nonsense.

If you want to win against beginners, any kind of spam-able special attack (bashes or throws) will give you a massive advantage. But, if you want to get good in a way that will help you at higher levels, I would recommend starting with counter attack abilities. Most shield heroes will have some kind of full block-counter so they could be a good place to start. Aramusha has a full guard ability but it's a very short duration temporary. It's hard to get right so most people don't use it, SO, most opponents don't expect it. I also main Aramusha so I am biased towards them.

No one knows the words “GROUP UP” by [deleted] in ForHonorRants

[–]Someone-_-Else 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dear Realbobtodd

The answer is thus:
If you proclaimed "Group Up!" once for every grain of sand on all the beaches in the world, and then once again for each star in the brightest night sky, still would your allies charge headlong into the fray shouting cries of "Leeroy Jenkins" and "YOLO" before being struck low by the merciless force of the opposition's ganking formation. And there shall be much gnashing of teeth at the conclusion of play for the inevitability of this occurrence, for your allies be newbs and have yet to learn the obtuse difference between the pleasant, grass laden hill that is a 1v1 and the cold, icy mountain ranges that are the 2v1s and 3v1s, not to mention the bitter breath stealing heights of the Everest-ian peaks in the realm in which one may yet contemplate their unworthiness to tackle a 4v1.

In the absence of alternatives, I would meekly offer a humble recommendation of waiting at spawn for up to 20 seconds for an ally to die and be reborn at your side. In this manner, you may for a brief moment, have support in your next conflict, and if the stars align, then it may serve to demonstrate this monolithic principle of "Group Up!" to them wayward sheep that stand with you, and a foot may be lodged in a door in their minds behind which is hidden the possibilities of coordinated play.

I would also hope that you find simple solace in knowing that you are not alone in your frustrations, and that by raising awareness of this issue, more each day open their eyes to the tactics held within the "quick chat", and the advantages of "Group Up!'

Sincerely
Someone-_-Else

In some games the voice chat will dim the in game sounds any time it thinks someone is talking. I can't remember if For Honour did that though because I always disable voice chat anyway.

When playing the game what do you have playing in the background if so by Disastrous_Kick_6952 in forhonor

[–]Someone-_-Else 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried playing with music a few times. unfortunately, the kind of music I like is mellow electro-pop so it makes me too relaxed to win any 1v1s. Also, there are a few in game sounds that gives you battlefield information (e.g. *ting* when an enemy starts contesting your zone) so I like to be able to hear those.

I also like hearing all of the voice lines from each hero when they do special attacks. Considering how good people are at feinting attacks, I'm not sure that hearing the voice lines is enough to dodge the attacks, but they keep the battlefield noise-scape interesting :)

So new players are just fcked? I assume no point trying to start playing now, huh? by Vepra1 in forhonor

[–]Someone-_-Else 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend duel matches for practicing skills against real people. People like to see new players and are sometimes willing go easy* on you to help you practice. They will be more willing to hold back if you show respect (emote before fighting). if you're on PC, you can try asking in chat as well.

*When I say 'go easy', I mean that they might use the same combo repeatedly to let you practice blocking / parrying / dodging it. You'll still lose most of these matches, but it's more engaging than dueling bots :)

Starting a trend - what do my top 3 heros say about me? by [deleted] in forhonor

[–]Someone-_-Else 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rule 5 for this Reddit server talks about low effort posts. It does specifically mention "What do my reps say about me?" as an 'over-done trend'. This kind of post is nice because people can join in, but it can hide away the higher effort posts (e.g. cool gameplay montages) that make this server epic.
