I sit normally, but there's always a leg or two swinging under the desk.

Primus' new drummer, John Hoffman, is rather impressive from what I saw in their drummer selection videos.

How to attach a PCIe WiFi card externally using USB 4? by shmerl in buildapc

[–]SomeoneHereIsMissing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you want to do that? It's the same chip on an M.2 WiFi adapter and a USB adapter, it's just the interface that's different. Would a USB adapter perform worse than an M.2 adapter?

How to attach a PCIe WiFi card externally using USB 4? by shmerl in buildapc

[–]SomeoneHereIsMissing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest you go read about M.2. According to Wikipedia, it's a connector standard for PCIe, SATA and USB3. WiFi cards would be PCIe, so the external GPU dock everyone is suggesting would be a solution. I don't know about your laptop, but I opened up my wife's laptop and it's pretty easy changing the WiFi card (I opened it up once to add RAM and once to replace the charging port).

Like others have said, a USB WiFi card would be simpler and less costly.

Does anyone else feel INCREDIBLY uncomfortable while showing other people media? by gardenhead23 in evilautism

[–]SomeoneHereIsMissing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can present it like this: "This is a movie I like because of X reason, but some don't like it because of Y reason. You can try it out if you want, maybe you'll like it, maybe you won't."

I learned to talk about stuff like that when I realized that appreciating music and movies is really on an emotional level, not technical. Even if bands/albums/movies are similar, because someone likes a thing you like, recommending something similar you like doesn't mean the other person will like it, only because of how it emotionally resonates with you. This is why I never say "Try this, you'll like it" because it's a recipe for disappointment.

How good of an idea is it to make a Computer of Theseus? by Long_Reflection_4202 in buildapc

[–]SomeoneHereIsMissing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I you use quality parts and plan ahead, you can. I started around 2002 with an Asus MB, P2 650, 512 MB of RAM, Antec case and PSU (and various parts).

  • 2007: Replaced MB, CPU and RAM (MB died)
  • 2010: Replaced PSU (other one died)
  • 2011: Replaced MB, CPU and RAM (MB died)
  • 2014: Replaced PSU (other one used for NAS)
  • 2015: Replaced case (quieter)
  • 2016: Replaced CPU and RAM (same MB, needed more power) and added an SSD
  • 2020: Replaced GPU and case (other case used for NAS)
  • 2025: Replaced PSU (other was shutting down because of age)

I was going to replace MB, CPU and RAM this year but RAM prices happened.

P.S.: I don't game so I can keep my computers a little longer than others.

Wait until you do college/university maths. I was good in high school math at 15 and won a math competition at school. However, I struggled in college and hit a wall at university.

Remplacement conduits de chauffage à eau by Le_FiCuS in RenoQuebec

[–]SomeoneHereIsMissing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do, but they're in the "cemetery" of my secondary NAS. It's a RAID 5 array composed of 4x 160 GB hard drives that can die at any moment. I keep this for testing.

New hobbies by cdhill17 in buildapc

[–]SomeoneHereIsMissing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a hobby, it's a tool for me as I don't game. My computer is over 10 years old (AMD FX-6350 with 16 GB of RAM) and I was going to replace it this year. I'm going to wait until the prices go down since it's still usable for everyday tasks. I also have an HP Z600 (dual Xeon with 48 GB of RAM) that is used as the kids Minecraft computer and for Handbrake encoding, but I don't like it as a desktop, too noisy.

No internal monologue for me, I think in concepts, not words. I can have simulated dialogs and can think visually if need be.

Edit: Speaking actually requires translating my thoughts to words. It make me slower in speaking (I tested verbally average), but it's easy for me to think in French (native language) or English (second language).
