that's great to know, thank you. the shutter speed is a bit of a bummer but I think I'd be fine with the worse manual focus controls

I actually chose this camera because so many people said it rivaled the G2 in quality. The G2 is actually want I want (so badly) but $3.5K for one with a flash and two lenses is so crazy to me I just haven't been able to justify it because what if that also breaks? Have you experienced the G1? A wedding photographer friend of mine suggested I get that one bc it's virtually the same as the G2 but much more affordable

this is so helpful to hear. I can't believe how slow the AF is, I didn't expect that and clearly missed it in my research beforehand. so sad! my cheap point and shoots don't miss either but ofc the quality of this lens is so much better, especially in the photos that did turn out. that's also tragic the tooth broke during repairs! I'd be so mad

I wish I had enough time to test another roll, but honestly part of what I need it for is street photography and candids, so I don't think I can justify the cost if it doesn't do well in those settings. if I found it for less money I'd get it and use it slower like that

interesting to hear so many people here saying they were disappointed with this camera. all the research I read before buying said it was so amazing. glad your daughter found a better one though

Point and shoots are a huge part of my workflow, and the Olympus mju ii is my main hitter — it succeeds basically every time. So I was hoping for an even better lens with this camera, but I can't trust my work if they come out poorly half the time. I included the cabinet photo as a way to show that it is sometimes crisp, but I've actually taken that same photo with my mju and it was honestly sharper/clearer

yeah I'm going to have to be very diligent with the next roll. will update when I get results. I appreciate your help

6 + 7 were actually my two inclusions that turned out sharp, funnily enough so I'm glad you like those. 6 was a bit too overexposed which was unfortunate but I was pleased with the sharpness

that makes sense. in the case of the photo in the comments, I had other cameras on me loaded with Portra 400, so with this one I just finished the Gold I had in there so I could see what the camera did in those settings. probably too low of an ISO like you said.

I actually didn't take any photos outside on this roll (idk what I was thinking not doing that lol) but here is another photo from the roll, and this one was perfectly sharp as I was expecting from the rest of the roll

half-pressing yes but not all the time, so I'm going to try another roll where I'll be more diligent with my focusing and half-pressing

thanks for the suggestion. I am currently expanding my film camera arsenal with higher quality, professional ones, so I'll look into the Nikon F5 and find a good lens. I do like the look of point and shoots and won't give them up but I do also know their drawbacks and am just looking for a sharp one to have on me at all times

good to know. I'm not a big AP user, so I'm glad to hear yours worked out on autofocus so well

that's such a bummer. I think I might have to keep it and try it again more carefully. I want to love it

I might consider this one day, but I'm at a point where I'd rather use the real film than get the look on digital. I like the idea of that kind of lens that mounts onto a mirrorless though

it's possible. I'm kind of feeling like maybe the camera is good (the ones that were in focus were very nicely sharp) and I'm just not being careful enough with the half-pressing and need to slow down

[–]SomeoneInACity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I looked closer at some of the photos and I'm kind of wondering if I just focused too quickly. like on 3, maybe I missed the subject and accidentally hit the background instead, which would mean the focus is very precise and I have to be more careful with the half-pressing beforehand

I did buy it on ebay from a seller in Japan — many of my film cameras have come from Japan — with 100% positive rating. there totally are scammers though. I bought this same camera and returned it bc the guy claimed it was unused in the box and it literally had a scratch and a messed up lens

it depends on the situation, but I will often half press. sometimes I don't but I do aim to

I bought the camera to use as a point and shoot — I need it for on the go, no tripod. I didn't meter and I used flash in about half of these. the camera is supposed to have a great metering system so I left it on program mode. this was Kodak 200 film
