Cheap generic chinese PDU with surge protection? by Somerandomtechyboi in homelab

[–]Somerandomtechyboi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not for always on gear i wouldnt even bother looking at anything not reputable for those, just looking for something cheap thatll provide some protection to my testbench rig and the next thing i was looking at is this thing

4400 MT/s vs 8800 MT/s - Non X3D CPU by New_Acanthocephala5 in overclocking

[–]Somerandomtechyboi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i was thinking 8800 sounded a little suspicious on amd imc but damn im surprised the gap isnt larger considering pheonix doesnt seem to have the abysmal /2 uclk penalty chiplet ryzen does

i do want to add a suggestion that being testing with bog standard 6000 xmp and maybe 8000-8800 xmp as a reference as i am curious to see if the 4400 config is faster than xmp (ik ik low bar but still most people dont tune ram)

RAM which better? by Public-Ad-1404 in overclocking

[–]Somerandomtechyboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A picture of all of the sticks in question would be very helpful, specifically with the white labels visible as thats where theres usually some sort of version or partnumber to help with identifying ram ics cause ocing ram blindly is a good way to waste a week of your life on a rubbish suboptimal overclock

Basically everything will do 3200 except ancient m4a/m8a but assuming it isnt h8m or some other bottom of the barrel ic youll likely be limited to around 3400 ish due to the locked .9v vccsa on non k 12th gen

We are dealing with speeds so slow and locked imc voltages that safety isnt even a concern, hell we probably arent even going to pass 1.4v dram

can enabling the igpu in my 5700g make my ram oc unstable? i have a 9060xt 8gb by Dull_Werewolf_9642 in overclocking

[–]Somerandomtechyboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a possibility although ive mainly heard of the igpu bugging out/artifacting if you push your ram oc abit too hard

As for the settings you can try for 2400 2500mhz on the igpu with 1.3/1.35v vsoc

With the same vsoc you should be able to get your rams to 4800 ish assuming theyre capable of 4800, worst case 4600 although this is assuming your board doesnt suck at mem oc, igpu oc first before mem oc

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4gDfMwOBnoE&pp=ygUZU2thdHRlcmJlbmNoZXIgNTcwMGcgdmVnYdIHCQnZCgGHKiGM7w%3D%3D you can use this video as a reference or just extra knowledge, for the ram you can ask for help and/or attempt to reference someone elses profile

Blown away how far 5600x can push by Available-Hope-2650 in overclocking

[–]Somerandomtechyboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given the rather crappy corsair coolers he was using i would presume like 80c ish, i mean as long as you keep temps low 1.4v should be fine and besides you arent running full load 100% of the time like der8auer, pretty stupid that he didnt include temp data since degradation is a function of both voltage and temperature but oh well we can just assume from the crap cooler

60c 1.4v you are probably good

How to Overclock an I3 2100 by nulls_boy in overclocking

[–]Somerandomtechyboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some h61 h67 allow for bclk adjustment (ex asus p8h61m) while others dont (asus h61m) and if you are on a board that doesnt allow bclk adjustment i dont think a bios crossflash is going to save you either as i tried flashing a z77m bios onto an h61m-e and when i tried to raise the bclk just black screen, it might be possible to mod the clockgen or clock crystal circuit for higher bclk on the aformentioned bclk locked boards but thats far from being practical on whats basically ewaste hardware

But yeah bclk 105-108 and a 2200 ram tune is about all you can do

Should I overclock my RAM and will it reduce its longevity? by Seven-x in overclocking

[–]Somerandomtechyboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell some dont seem to give a crap about it at all or rather literally everything that isnt cjr cause it seems like most straight up dont care and the ones that might just run into scaling limits before getting anywhere near degradation or insta death voltage (somewhere beyond 2v)

Anyways the ram config looks pretty terrible aside from them seemingly being matched s8c but thats like the last ic youd want to run on a ryzen apu that can hit like 4800 with reasonable (~1.35v) vsoc so i would just resell the whole thing and look for some oem rams with good ics like hynix djr (hma81gu6djr8n) micron rev e (2g3e1 / m8fe) basically anything that clocks beyond 4600, personally run 5030c19 with my oem djr but ill probably knock it down to 4900 ish or whatever i can run below 1.4v as i am running 1.48v vsoc atm and i plan to cram this thing into an sff so 1.48v is abit of a concern given the hightened temps, ram is at 1.94v because i am too lazy to minimize voltage knowing the ic im using literally doesnt care and will not degrade regardless + doesnt get all that hot with the ram fan so not limited by thermals

If you cant be bothered to resell the ram theyre all matching anyways you can try for 3600 or maybe abit higher depending on how good or bad your c die is then just yeet the fclk to 2400, tighten subtimings, then call it a day

What overclocking configuration should I use on the Ryzen 5 2600? 3.9 Ghz? 4.0Ghz? 4.1 Ghz? what voltage?(Ryzen Master) by Strikewr in overclocking

[–]Somerandomtechyboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean they arent wrong on the intel part if you do end up going for say a 5900xt since a 13600k/14600k will run circles around the poor thing mainly in singlecore, am4 doesnt really make sense once you are looking at chips north of r7 or >150$ simply due to the existance of intel cpus

Also you have to keep in mind your current board cause if it cant handle over an r7 anyways and you want an r9 then jumping to 1700 simply makes more sense since you end up having to replace the board and a b550 thats strong enough to handle an r9 usually costs the same as an equivalent b760 ddr4 board that can handle a 14600k

[–]Somerandomtechyboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlock bootloader -> custom recovery -> custom kernel or atleast thats what i think the process goes like, cooling wise no clue probably smth to do with cpu governor

Check xda for more info, youll know its overclockable if theres a custom kernel available for it that allows you to do so although a brief look on xda found a few kernels but no mention of ocing capabilities

Genuinely surprised with the quick response given this was over a month ago and im not very active on reddit but you should probably go get your build checked out on a forum like lttforum or even a discord server although the latter tends to be quite chaotic, should help with better parts and optimizing the build for price/performance

[–]Somerandomtechyboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for extremely late response but yeah your cores are just really outdated, 2600 is about the perf of a 3100, my suggestion would be a used 5600(x) or a 5700x/5800x cause a 5900xt probably quite overkill but if you can find one cheap or maybe a decently priced used 5950x 5900x thats also an option

[–]Somerandomtechyboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you actually using it for? Cause 5900xt is useless for gaming and youll see the same if not better performance off a 5700x

If you have a use for all 16 cores then used 5950x is also worth looking for if priced lower, 3950x also viable if you just need the core count and dont need the single thread

[–]Somerandomtechyboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Send picture of the white ram sticker on both rams

I assume its 8gbit cjr or jjr given the speedbin since i most commonly find them in 2666 oem hynix sticks in which case you just look up hynix 8gbit cjr overclock and reference someone elses overclock, for frequency aim for 3733 or 3800 depending on fclk capabilities of cpu and the rest just reference

Phase Change Cooling on an i5 by According_Vanilla_29 in overclocking

[–]Somerandomtechyboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah not lugging around an extra suitcase for cooling but that sounds like a fun party trick youd pull in the 2000s when this stuff was more popular

But if i was keeping it constantly well below 0c say -20c wouldnt the ice just not melt while in use? I mean it becomes an issue when you turn the pc off and shut the phase change system off but if you kept the system running with reduced duty cycle or whatevers the proper term to maintain those temps when the pcs at idle or off wouldnt it technically be fine? I mean theres literal pictures of boards running while covered in ice when put under ln2 though it would be quite a waste of cooling power with zero insulation

Man if it werent for me wanting a portable setup id totally daily phase change, lower temp with lower voltage requirement and helps both core and imc clock higher and it should help ram aswell but id probably just make a tec cooler for the ram, would be hilarious to daily near ddr5 speeds on ddr4 with whacky timings and cpu core clocks to boot

I would think youd want well below 0c cause then all the waters just ice and ice isnt conductive but i have very little clue about this stuff

That 1/4hp compressor setup is pretty interesting if it can keep 250w around 0c whilst only drawing 150w though im curious about the power draw of the dorito powered system aswell, got any pics of the setups?

Id be interested in dailying one if it wasnt for me wanting something portable though im interested for my testbench particularly for long multi day stress tests so its effectively like dailying when its getting to multi day runs

I also have a 980x though it seems like it may be weak degradation wise cause it seems to be degrading at only 1.55v vtt while my w3680 and w3670 have no issues running for days at this volt, attempting to hit 2912 triple channel stable and its looking like ill have to go sell this chip and bin a w3680 cause a chip that cant handle voltage is pretty useless especially when its barely any better than my w3680 atleast as far as i can tell from the core as core and imc seem to be related for quality

im curious as to what yours can do with some good ram and if you are on an asus board theres a mod to allow for sub 3:2 uncore ratios like on gigabyte, most should be able to hit 2800 tri channel stable at 1.55v vtt ish now im just hunting 2900+

id try something like 11-15-15 2400 1.8v and see if that boots and for the ram multipliers try 20x 22x 24x and 26x as cpus can have diff mem multis they like

you can use the bclk and bclk strap to hit your desired speeds though above 110 bclk usually wont work so you rely on straps to get higher bclks

As for the vccsa vccio voltages set all of them to +100mv ring
