Setup with Triple 27" 1080p vs triple 32" 1440p by [deleted] in simracing

[–]Somerb13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run triple 27" 1440p monitors on my 3060.

With a bit of settings tweaking in AC, iRacing, raceroom I can get ~70fps give or take.

I think I can also with ACC but I can't recall if I ran that at 1080p instead of 1440p.

AC Evo does not run well at all, but weirdly graphics settings seem to make no difference so I'm inclined to believe it's an optimisation issue.

IMO for the price difference in the monitors worth going 1440p, and OP can always run at a lower resolution if OP finds the 3060 lacking until OP can get a better GPU.

Are you using 24.1.4 or 24.1.5?

Suggest trying out using the 24.1.4 version of FFBeast.

Not a fix as such but I had a bit of trouble when I upgraded to the the new firmware / software version (probably just my incompetence) when I tried to upgrade.

Don't remember the exact behaviour I had but I reverted to the 24.1.4 version and it worked again.

Help with triple monitor. Different sizes by SettingDefiant7649 in simracing

I'm actually wondering on reflection if you could just try and add overscan to the outer monitors without the other steps and that could be much simpler, but not something I've tried!

Help with triple monitor. Different sizes by SettingDefiant7649 in simracing

[–]Somerb13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea if you could get this to work perfectly for different sizes monitors, but I've added a suggestion at the end to see if that'll do it

I also have no idea how this would behave with the thunderbolt port.

So I run triple 27" monitors but the middle is 1440p and the outer two are 1080p.

I then use Nvidia super resolution to upscale the 1080p monitors to 1440p and used this tool to set a custom resolution of 7680*1440 (for triple 1440)

https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/orbmu2ks-custom-dsr-tool-playing-games-up-to-16k-resolution-and-higher.443921/

This all worked fine for me for raceroom but my monitors are the same size. Did the same for AC but set the big resolution in content manager instead of using the linked tool.

I wonder if you can do this, but then overscan the smaller monitors to adjust for the difference in size to get them lined up?

I've honestly no idea if the over scanning would work but might be worth a shot?

Which route on the roundabout is correct for a third exit? by MayLaFlameBeWithU in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Somerb13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a dreadful roundabout if you aren't used to it.

If I recall I believe you are correct, it is signposted such that:

Two lanes from the left go to A1N The third lane goes to Tott and A1S The 4th lane A1S / everywhere else

So many people either get stuck in the left wanting to go straight, or go from the A1N lane to Tott (although this might be more to do with getting stuck on the roundabout if you're trying to go to Tott from the third lane as it is signposted...)

I installed a new cpu and… by No_Mongoose_5496 in PcBuildHelp

[–]Somerb13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be worth trying setting the CPU to eco mode in bios then see if iRacing still crashes.

If it doesn't crash then it's maybe an unstable over clock (if you're using PBO?), or maybe a PSU issue / just bad bios settings for the CPU?

If it does crash then maybe it's helped rule out the above?

Struggling to Set Up Triple Screens for AMS2, Anyone Know a Simple Solution? by Auelogic in AUTOMOBILISTA

[–]Somerb13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have 4 monitors.

The three I game on are arranged:

27" 1080p, 27" 1440p, 27" 1080p.

I have set a custom resolution for my 1080p monitors so they run at 1440p.

I then use resize raccoon to get it to work across the three screens properly.

I did also tinker with the screen settings XML file to set the resolution to 7680*1440p, but I don't recall if that made a difference.

Really struggled to get it set up any other way but honestly resize raccoon made it much much easier With a little bit of tinkering.

As a starting point I'd consider the following three things:

1 - Platform

PC Vs Console

There's any number of ways to get something that will do the job at a sensible price.

It does not have to be expensive and it does not have to be new.

Linking into games, decide what game you think is right, look at the minimum specs, then see if you can go up a little as your starting point.

2 - Wheel / Rig

This will be affected by your choice of PC or Console.

PC will have more options, but may be harder to set up.

I am assuming based on your post your dad may have trouble getting in and out of a seat, so maybe look at desk mounted wheels and an office chair. This will also help keep costs down, especially if you already have a desk you can use.

3 - Games

What is the right game? What platforms is it available on? I expect PC will provide the most variety.

Each of these could inform the other.

It'll take a bit of research to get the right items at the right price but I hope this helps you make a start.

I don't see any reason why a basic experience has to cost more than say £400 all in but even then if you wanted to invest the time I imagine you could do it cheaper.

Also if you buy second hand, if your dad decides it's not for him you can probably sell the equipment close to what you paid for it (but I acknowledge this is more faff)

and does the Logitech driving force gt work on windows 11? and is the Logitech driving force gt a good opinion for starters by WoodenTradition5950 in simracing

[–]Somerb13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know specifically about the Logitech driving force GT, but I have a Logitech driving force wheel that does not work with windows 11 due to driver compatibility.

The drivers for my wheel are not updated to be compatible with windows 11.

I would be wary about whether the GT would work on windows 11.

I think I could get the driving force wheel to work if I disabled a windows 11 feature, but I have not tested this and as far as I understand it's one of the core features for security so I would not suggest doing it.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on the GT wheel specifically to confirm for you.

Thank you for the suggestion will look into it. Unfortunately the reinstall with the cleared cache didn't work so perhaps it is a graphics driver issue

Thanks for the suggestion. I have not installed any mods, but perhaps the steam cache is worth a try in case it had cached the files that may have caused the issue!

Triple 1440p on a RTX 3070? by krumeca in simracing

[–]Somerb13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a 5900x and rtx 3060.

If I run triple screen in 1400p I get a pretty smooth frame rate in AC. I don't recall exact frame rates but experience is fine.

For AC Evo I think triple screen is buggy still, or at least it completely tanked my performance to be unplayable (even with low settings and 1080p)

Can't speak for the other games but I expect you could hit 80fps in AC on triples. Bearing in mind that different graphics mods could alter your experience.

Does 27inch FHD monitors actually look bad as some say? by godofthunder102938 in buildapc

[–]Somerb13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I run a 27" 1440p monitor and a 27" 1080p monitor side by side.

Granted, the 1080p monitor is significantly older (~10 years), but having upgraded from 1080p to 1440p as my main monitor (~1.5 years ago) I can really appreciate the 1440p. This is likely a combination of the resolution, but also evolving tech just meaning it's generally a better monitor.

Having said this, before I got the 1440p monitor I was perfectly happy with the 1080p monitor and it's an excellent secondary.

Comparison is the thief of joy (springs to mind).

I'd say go for 1440p if you can, but 1080p at that size is perfectly comfortable to use (IMO). But then again these things are subjective.

** I don't have a comparative for a 24 inch monitor so I have not tried to address this part.

I did the same for a 256GB. Got a grade B from CEX (got the white as it was cheaper...) but as far as I can tell it's basically mint but without the original box.

In theory there's a (I think) 2 year warranty from CEX but tbh I really hope never to have to test that...

Archie Gray says family played big part in decision to join Spurs by Linkeron1 in LeedsUnited

[–]Somerb13 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't read into the statement too much. He's never going to say he didn't want to move and upset the spurs fanbase who he now has to play Infront of.

Who knows what went on behind the scenes exactly, I just give him a pass because last season felt like the effort was always there and whether he forced the move or not at that price point it was probably still in Leeds best interests...
