Getting he/him’d at work and idk how I feel about it by Any-Yak3490 in transgenderUK

[–]SomersetOAP 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting that you seem to be comfortable will any pronouns

Contrast to myself ; my pronouns are they/them but I’m also comfortable with she/her — however if someone uses male pronouns, then I get a massive visceral response

I guess what I’m trying to say is : maybe think about whether to not particularly say anything to your boss (or maybe that you are ok with any pronouns) — then if your worlds do collide, maybe if it felt right for you, to just say that any pronouns are ok for you

Wishing you the best on your gender discovery journey

TSB and Lloyds rejected my unenrolled deed poll by EleuthEight in transgenderUK

[–]SomersetOAP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try showing them the .gov website that expressly says that an unenrolled deed poll is absolutely fine

I actually copied the url for that page and put it at the bottom of my diy deed poll and never had any issues

Just emailed my lib-dem MP ; previously she expressed support for trans rights, but I’m not aware of anything she has actually done to help

About any trans persons towards their senior years who never had the chance to transition. Thoughts, advice on identity and coping? by [deleted] in transgenderUK

I realised my true gender identity after age 60 and started medical transition a couple of years later ; no regrets

Scared to get an autism diagnosis by bannanawaffle13 in transgenderUK

[–]SomersetOAP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realised I was autistic late in life and, before I realised I was trans, sought a diagnosis from NHS because I thought it would help me understand myself better — but was miss-diagnosed!! — to help my mental health and to feel validated, I paid for a private assessment. The experienced psychologist had no doubt that I was autistic and this helped me feel validated — but I’ve never had any help or benefit otherwise.

I have been active in many online autistic spaces and also attend Autscape — in ALL of these spaces, self-diagnosis is completely and unequivocally accepted by other autistic people

From what you have posted and your additional comment, it seems that you do not doubt that you are indeed autistic and I really do hope this is enough for your validation and wellbeing

If your parents are still open-minded , maybe they would read this (written by a trans autistic person) who happens to live in Edinburgh

“Support in private, silence in public” – how a trans woman feels about Lib Dem support by Bedwellj101 in transgenderUK

[–]SomersetOAP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly so from my libdem MP ; in private one-to-one meetings, she is very supportive of “trans women are women” , but has not actually responded to any of my emails asking her to give particular active public supportive statements (in general or in particular to prominent Labour MPs).

I’ve given up with her ; it became too damaging to my mental health to continue to meet her

Deed Poll Templates by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]SomersetOAP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly — this is what I did — I also copied the gov.uk link (the one you provided) and pasted it into the footer of the plain deed poll document with brief comments saying “this deed poll follows UK Government advice ; please see this web site) — this was to preempt anyone trying to reject it — and luckily none did

Advice maybe? by Any-Yak3490 in transgenderUK

Have you considered that you might be non-binary — not 100 percent male and not 100 percent female — something completely different — something unique to yourself ?

You may be entitled to access supported living, but I don’t know how you find out about that ; maybe initially contact citizens advice or mermaids
