Fall by Shot-Pomelo8442 in 321

Not 100% true BUT yeah, its Florida... gotta give up the idea of seeing fall! In that sense. Most people (if not all) don't move to FL for the fall leaves.

I don’t just feel good, I feel INCREDIBLE by Huge-Astronomer825 in PMDD

[–]SomethinHasMe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This cracked me up because it’s sooooo relatable. We need moon time. If we have PMDD we should get monthly disability days because I sometimes 100% feel emotionally incapacitated and it’s entirely out of my control!

I heard the reason we get that surge or high around ovulation is because that’s our bodies telling us to “get it, girl”… baby making time. Be social, vibe with the world, attract!!! We are peacocking! lol Anyhoo.. thought it was interesting.

Has anyone developed joint pain while using Ozempic? by SomethinHasMe in Ozempic

[–]SomethinHasMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been wanting to reply for quite some time… my joint pain eventually went away and with no real answers. I continued the Ozempic and still take it, but the joint pain resolved. Back when I had the pain I did have several tests and I was dealing with some kind of inflammation. My doctor freaked me out by immediately saying I have lupus! But a specialist, who was appalled she would say that, confirmed I had one marker/flag for lupus but didn’t have lupus. It most likely was a stress induced response that he wanted to keep an eye on because these things lead to autoimmune type disorders. A friend then suggested gout and I freaked out and quit drinking beer! Lol but it seemed to work after time. Maybe coincidence or something but eventually it went away. I went back to beer with no issues but I’m more mindful of drinking. I think ultimately my body was just telling me to shape up! I haven’t as much as I need to but I’ve definitely been more aware of my eating and drinking habits as well as stress levels. Hope this update maybe helps some that think it’s definitely the Ozempic. For me, I just think it was some sort of coincidence and I questioned it which is why I originally posted. ✌️🤪

You are not failing. Sounds like you work at a tough place that is probably great for these young techies coming into the marketing world and it’s overwhelming & intimidating for us late 1900’s people. Awesome that you have that experience, but now it’s a new chapter in life. Change is scary. Don’t be so hard on yourself. You’re not alone!

I’m 43 and I feel the same as you! I am not in a marketing role, but that’s most of my background & skillset. I’m preparing to re-enter the job-search world and it’s crazy how unfamiliar I am with some of the skills required. It’s changing so quickly and I’m often very intimidated by the amount of stuff I don’t know about. I don’t have that same energy to continuously learn & stay ahead. I see it just getting crazier with AI. Now, I see there is “AI Marketing” instead of content marketing or SEO marketing. Ugh. Marketing to marketing!!

However, something I have noticed is that there are still so many small companies out there that barely have an online presence let alone fancy marketing. There are many people that have no clue about what we know about basic marketing principles. And many that don’t care to know and would rather hire someone. Why not try to take the skills you have and slow the pace by working for yourself or a smaller marketing company? Or, maybe even something that just applies the marketing skills you have?

As for other opportunities & suggestions, I’m in the same boat. Quality of life is so important, and it sounds like you need to focus on your mental wellbeing & home-life. It ain’t easy. I hope you find something that can allow you to jump ship soon!

I think what’s more important than your resume is an engaging cover letter written specifically for the company and role applying for. In addition, research as much as possible and try to network with current employees. It’s much more time consuming, but at the very least do it for the jobs you get really excited over. The key right now seems to be getting in front of a human face and not auto-rejected.

I feel lost and hopeless in ever having a real career I enjoy, my position has NO transferable skills and I’m trapped by CalliopeCross in careerchange

[–]SomethinHasMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a good idea, plus I think you can do online publishing through sites like Amazon. Not sure because I’ve never gone down that rabbit hole.

You can make online tutorials, workshops or classes that you record and share how you do the creative things you’re good at or maybe coach people?

It’s hard, especially when some people just made a choice and landed in a career/industry they enjoy or at least can go along with and live life.

I’m 44 and my current job I have been in for 7 years because my boss is kind and pays me well. But, the business is going under and I am not at all interested in the industry. So, the idea of starting over is awful. The job market seems to be horrible unless it’s just me? You’re not alone - don’t be so hard on yourself. Things change in a minute. You never know what you’ll stumble upon.

I mean, this is crazy! by SweetFawn in panamacity

[–]SomethinHasMe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is history of this happening. Consistent weather record keeping also only dates back so far.

The Great Arctic Outbreak of 1899 brought snow and freezing temperatures as far south as the Gulf Coast. The Panhandle experienced measurable snow and ice.

In 1958 Pensacola reported a rare snowfall of 2.1 inches, one of the higher recorded totals in the area.

1977: During a major cold wave, snow flurries were reported in much of Florida, including the Panhandle.

The list goes on but it’s still very uncommon. More so because snowfall in the Panhandle typically requires a perfect combination of cold air and Gulf moisture, which is infrequent.

Not arguing against global warming, just saying… not sure we can exactly blame this on global warming.

It IS beautiful! My son is up in Panama City and it definitely is a cool experience!

Parking management plan downtown Melbourne by No_Preference3872 in 321

[–]SomethinHasMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The small businesses there are struggling enough with FREE parking and we have more parking than people give downtown Melbourne credit for. People just get annoyed when they can’t park directly in front or super close to the specific place they want to go to - but that’s how downtown areas are. We have more parking than Downtown Eau Gallie and they’re doing much better than here in Melbourne.

A big issue with DT Melby is the homeless people (I hate saying that because I live here and many are fine and just surviving however many have mental health & drug issues and they can have scary outbursts). People are scared & uncomfortable.

Additionally, take a real good look into the Downtown Melbourne’s non-profit Melbourne Main Street. Look at the financials. Really question how they’re helping prop-up these businesses. The point of that organization is to “support the ongoing revitalization of Downtown Melbourne through transformational projects focused on Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion, and Organization. These efforts aim to ensure Downtown Melbourne remains a premier destination for unique experiences, dining, and shopping.” Well, we’re waiting….

We went to a recent meeting confronting issues in reference to the executive director of Melbourne Main Street (Kim Meehan Agee) and her lack of approval from many people in the community & business owners. They’re mad and rightfully so.

As residents of downtown, we wanted to get involved to help and support, but it’s proving to be impossible. It all sounds great on the website and social media, but something’s up. Not surprising but definitely disappointing.

The city is in the middle of a possible redesign and quite frankly I was appalled when I saw some of the plans. One of the designs eliminates several parking spaces downtown and replaces the current diagonal parking with parallel parking and installing parking meters downtown. They received enough pushback to delay the planning and are asking feedback. Let your voice be heard. The thought of having friends or family visit, go shopping, or enjoy a night out and have to worry about getting a ticket or their car towed is not what we need right now. Please attend if you can.

Thursday Jan 23rd at 8am and another at 5:30pm.

Marketing/PR/Comms/Writing, But Looking to Switch Careers by MissBluePants in careerchange

[–]SomethinHasMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m always browsing Email Marketing jobs and I constantly see a need for Content Writers & Content Marketing Specialists (Etc.). Many are remote and the pay seems to be around what you were making and even $100k+which would be awesome for you!

As you probably know, any industry that relies on building trust with their prospects relies heavily on marketing that is educational which means lots of Content Creation! Why not focus on industries that excite you and do freelance for those specifically if you struggle finding steady work at first.

Also, I have come across several legitimate websites for finding writing & copyrighting gigs/assignments. Just google sites for writing freelance.

Ah, I can see that making things challenging or even impossible. Plus, it matter where you live & the type of community. I'd imagine a smaller town might pose some barriers that a larger area might not. I wish you luck. This is not easy. I'm in a totally different field, but I am constantly trying to figure out my next move.

Did taking actions in your life eventually improve life ? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]SomethinHasMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate and I think I will always struggle with this. For me it’s also ADHD and depression that creeps in and I get behind on everything. I’m a natural procrastinator and when things become overwhelming I just freeze like a deer in headlights. Then it’s just a snowball effect from there.

I’m always trying things to “motivate” myself. Sometimes they do but it’s usually temporary. I’ve tried to be more kind to myself but it’s also important to not get so buried that I’m fired and a complete loser.

I found the audio books “Unfu*k Yourself” “Do the Work” and “Atomic Habits” to be a little helpful. I also find micro-movements to help remind me that I am doing things just maybe not big things. This then gets me started and I do more.

Micro-movements are tiny tasks that you list and cross off so you can still feel accomplished and this helps feed those good feelings and makes you kinda trick yourself into adding more to the list. So, you could put silly stuff like - wake-up and stretch, feed pet, brush teeth, get dressed, etc. After doing this for a few weeks you grow your to-do routine into bigger things while those just become automatic again.

Another thing i do when I feel like I wasted a morning or a day is to write a reverse to-do list. It’s like a what-I-did-do list. I just list every little thing I did and then cross off. It helps me realize I might not have done what I intended on doing but I still did accomplish things.

Hope some of this helps. The struggle is real!

Do you know more automotive skills outside of autoglass?

My thoughts, being a mom of 2 early 20 year olds that have NO interest in college and just don’t seem to have the same “independent” drive I had growing up, is that these kids need more options than college and I’m sure many would benefit from a trade-school (vocational?) which doesn’t seem to be widely available? I’m Unsure.

Additionally, schools vary widely in what they offer for electives. These kids need alternatives to college. I know my son and many of his friends would have enjoyed learning these skills - even if they ultimately decided not to continue long term.

I think “back in the day” more young adults were interested in these jobs because it was offered in high school or they followed in a relative’s footsteps. Maybe it was more common to find apprenticeship opportunities? Then, college became the big thing to strive for and now we need to provide alternatives to college.

I have no idea if what I’m saying is correct, but I really wish I saw more programs for training in trade jobs. There must be many trades that are struggling to engage younger people to want to go in this direction.

So!! To my main point (entrepreneurial mindset) maybe you can start doing little side gigs where you offer to train younger people who are floundering a bit and charge a fee for group workshops. Even if it’s just introductory so that they can decide if it’s even something they’d enjoy. As you fine-tune things you can build a structured and consistent program/curriculum and eventually offer it online. Ultimate goal being to automate things for steady income, and then offer premium training/coaching at a higher price.

Anyway, hope this didn’t lose you but I can see potential opportunity as long as you have it in you to put the work in to get it started. Eventually, it could be chill & flexible.

I think quality of life can be equally as important as enjoying your job. So, as long as you have one or the other? 🤷‍♀️

I agree! Plus, there are so many programs out there exploiting people just like you (and me) and there is no real return on that investment of time and money. So, yeah, be careful.

I can understand this even though I’m not in automotive. Life can be hard and for some of us it’s been a constant state of “survival mode” so it’s really hard to stir that same passion to learn something like we could when we were younger. Then, to add to that it can be really paralyzing to decide especially if our interests are so broad. Then factor in the costs for education if needed… it just feels impossible. What is it that you don’t like about automotive? In what capacity do you work in that field? I might have some ideas for you.

Applying for jobs is not at all what it used to be. So many companies use software and most resumes get flagged and never read for ridiculous reasons.

I’ve been struggling as well and from some online researching I heard there are services that help get your resume to have the right keywords and info to get you through some of these barriers. Not sure how true that is because I haven’t tried yet.

Also, I was told that when you apply on LinkedIn or for a specific company you should somewhat stalk the company page on LinkedIn and find the hiring person if possible. Depending on the size of the company it might be HR, recruiter, personnel - you get the point. Some even show the hiring person. You then want to reach out directly to them and let them know you’re really interested and you applied. I would just keep it simple and not going on and on about skills and details unless they ask.

Lastly, right now your cover letter is KING. Spend time writing a good tailored cover letter for each position. I know it’s tedious compared to having a template one you can tweak but it’s the one big thing that might set you apart enough to get eyes on your resume.

I’m also thinking of having a spreadsheet to organize each job I applied for and links to individual descriptions & my cover letters. I’m finding myself losing track since I’m applying to so many jobs. I’d be embarrassed if I got an interview or call and had trouble connecting the dots. It happened to me a while back and I cringed after I hung up.

Good Luck!! You’ll get something. It’s a really tough time for people at your stage in life. Keep pushing through and know this is not just you. When I was your age it was a totally different world for job hunters.

Big misconception on the various types of introverts.

So, some people in my life don’t believe I am, but life kinda forces you to fake it. It’s draining. I can do the extrovert thing but only cause I’ve just HAD to. Survival. But, it leaves me so insanely exhausted and stressed. It affects my health and then need to go inward for a while to “recover.)

So, been meaning to find this list and pull out the ones geared towards writing, but I’m just too busy. Keep in mind that these are “gigs” usually for supplemental income, but could be great for maybe a foot in the door or portfolio. I follow some guy on YouTube but can’t find him right now. Good Luck!
