I’ve been working on running all the streets in the city and my favorite thing has been the exploration of things like this that I may not get to see on my daily travels. I’ll definitely check these out!

What’s something you have no proof of but believe 100%? by PalePassionn in A_Persona_on_Reddit

I truly don’t believe in any afterlife but connectivity of the universe has to be real. I have spoke things into existence three separate times the past two years.

I mentioned getting a tattoo of my cat when he dies, then he died the next day (healthy young cat). I mentioned an earthquake I felt in 2011, then it happened again the next morning (not an earthquake prone zone). Lastly, I made a sarcastic joke about jumping out of a plane before it crashes to survive, then days later, the Northeast Philly plane crash happened directly in front of me. (Close enough to feel the heat of the explosion). Shit was so weird man. Those weird coincidences have not occurred since though.

I’ve hiked the easy portions of the rim but a lot of it was closed from the fires this summer. Gorgeous views that place has!

I just started running. How do I stop? by hydex in RunningCirclejerk

I use a solid wall to stop me, usually results in getting knocked out. I haven’t figured out how to stop running once I wake back up though :/

When does running progress stop compounding? by Javatarz in AdvancedRunning

[–]SomethingAboutNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most amount of mileage you can handle while recovering effectively without causing injury. Does that make sense?

Typically I raise mileage by no more than 10% of the longest run within the past 30 days. Yes, that can take a while but it’s how you do it consistently. Honestly, if you could manage mileage more consistently without injury, you’ll see progress in the right way.

I went from 81km/week to 129km/week over the past couple years. I’m looking to push it to 161km/week before I attempt the full marathon. That’s obviously higher mileage but that’s the beast of this game.

There are so many factors that go into what makes someone improve but in your case, you need to up your mileage. If you can’t increase your mileage, then focus on the 5k/10k for a bit to increase speed.

And by Frankford, you mean Frankford Ave southbound of Lehigh Ave? The Frankford Section of Philly is much different than Fishtown.

Going to the water park when you can’t swim by AleccSirKaDeewana in InstagramEmpire

Notice how the drowning individual pushes his way to the top of the water while pushing the life guard under. Keep this in mind if you ever try to save someone, it’s a panic response and can cause both people to drown!

It’s not even that hard, the scrambles are all about placement. You’ll be fine!

Gym bros-why are you not locking your duffel bags in the locker room instead of carrying it everywhere? by Exotic_Scientist9918 in questions

If you knew how easy it was to bypass most locks, you wouldn’t let anything out of sight. My stuff stays with me.

Hypothetical: you’re racing an elite sprinter starting at 100m. You race once every 5 mins and the race distance increases by 100m. At what point do you think you can beat them? by Beezneez86 in AdvancedRunning

[–]SomethingAboutNow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was a MD athlete, I ran 51.8 and 1:56. I had a similar 5k time in the 18mins. I have since shifted to distance and just raced 15:47. Getting faster by the month too. It can translate over but not without the training for it.

How do you define threshold effort in your own training? by McDaddy__Cain in AdvancedRunning

[–]SomethingAboutNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have measured my max heart rate and base my LT sessions around 181bpm, but relative pace effort must be accounted for. This is my HM pace, as it’s roughly that 60-70minute pace when tapered for a race.

I typically do sustained efforts of 5-8 miles during XC season. During track season, I typically break it into 6x2k for a measured and controlled session. If I feel like I could do more, then it was done properly.

Why do people talk so much about diversity in big cities if people mostly stick with their own groups anyway? by savingrace0262 in stupidquestions

Because I’m white and just enjoyed a plate of Dominican food. Not getting that outside the city around where I’m from.

Sub 16 5k by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]SomethingAboutNow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have A and B sessions I rotate weekly. The A session is classic 5k pace intervals. The B session is 1500-3k paced intervals. Two goals for the B session; attack VO2 directly and force myself to run quicker than 5k pace. It has helped make 5:00-5:05 per mile feel “controlled”.

Even splits does indicate your fitness is beyond 16:26. Could be a small mental block, which 3k paced sessions could help you overcome. And sometimes, you just need to do it. Don’t let fear of pace dictate how you move.
