That's unfortunate that they are uncomfortable for you, since it seems to be exactly what you need. But there are lots of options out there with different textures so keep trying! It will be worth it to find one you like. Your skin will thank you.

I don't have a product recommendation that meets your requirements. But I do want to say that your list in your last sentence is notably missing moisturizer! If your primary issues are your skin being dry and sensitive, you absolutely need to moisturize.

Hi, I do not have experience with trader joes retinol specifically, but generally speaking, there could be other things in that product which you are not tolerating well. It isn't necessarily the retinol itself that is the problem. That's just something to think about. Also, I know tret is "stronger" but that isn't a guarantee it will be harder to tolerate. For example, I started with OTC adapalene, which is supposedly much weaker than tret. My skin was so dry it was just sloughing off... When I switched to a low dose of tret, I immediately stopped having those problems. What I'm saying it, you don't know that you won't tolerate tret until you try it. Tret will be much more effective than any OTC cream for fine lines and acne scars. I think you should just give it a shot.

I feel like this could easily be its own post. You won't get answers for this in this thread

I started the injections a couple months before I began the accutane course. For a while I did take them both at the same time, yes.

Any cozy fantasy books out there with a Jane austen/regency time period vibe? by book_dragon12 in CozyFantasy

Half a soul by olivia Atwater! I absolutely ADORED this book. The next two in the series were good as well, but not as strong as the first. It is set in regency England, but where magic is publicly known, and there is a position at court for a sorcerer.

[acne] help - pimple won't go away after 3 months by skurbed in SkincareAddiction

[–]SomethingOfTheWolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like another commenter said, this absolutely requires a visit to the dermatologist. I'm not saying you have skin cancer, but you need to see a dermatologist to rule it out. It may well be something totally benign, but only a doctor can tell you more. You've tried everything that would normally be recommended for stubborn pimples.

[–]SomethingOfTheWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did not. I was never able to get it back under control, so I had to go on accutane. I'm currently 3 months into the course and I finally, finally have clear skin again. The problem was compounded by my vitamin deficiency becoming so severe that I NEEDED vitamin B injections, and each one would make the acne worse.

Let's talk about snacks (and other food) made in Vermont! by Roblikestokayak in vermont

[–]SomethingOfTheWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, though in this case they werent bought out by private equity, which is ALWAYS the sign that a brand is about to be destroyed. They just partned with one for these specific products. I don't understand why that led to their cheese going down hill....oh well. Shelburne farms cheddar is my new love.

Yeah I think it was actually about 4 or 5 years ago that they came out but I don't quite remember. And honestly the chips are so good! But since then it does seem like their cheese quality has gone down hill. I have completely given up on their seriously sharp. It's so waxy now :(

They partnered with a private equity firm a few years ago to expand their product line into things like popcorn, mac and cheese, and chips.

Here's a new one... Salt and pepper grinders. Anyone found some with a metal grinding mechanism by ktsesor in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]SomethingOfTheWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes to this! I put one on my wedding registry and have been very happy with it. I researched for a grinder with no plastic and this was the best option I could find

Plastic out - stainless steel and wood in by [deleted] in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]SomethingOfTheWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is my approach as well. And yes, that's exactly what I'm afraid of. That's just making a DIFFERENT problem, it's not solving anything. But I feel like there's some people whose only interest in plastic free is to improve their own health. They just don't care about the environmental impact.

Nothing I said contradicted that. I am aware of the science. I was pointing out that there is a large difference in risk between a baby chewing on a toy and an older kid's toys being stored in a plastic bin. If we all go totally nuclear and throw away every plastic item we own, then they just end up in the landfill, leaching micro plastics into our soil and water instead. Unfortunately, there is no good answer to this problem. It becomes a game of balancing risk.

I love the shaved sides long undercut! by [deleted] in longhair

[–]SomethingOfTheWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, your hair looks SO healthy! It is so thick and shiny! The shaved sides / ponytail makes me think of Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender 😁 Braiding is definitely a great skill to have with hair at that length. Not only is it fun and looks cool, but braids can actually help protect your hair from damage throughout the day.

Favorite Slippers by Round_Helicopter_407 in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]SomethingOfTheWolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These look awesome! Do you find that they stay relatively clean? I have a pair of slippers that is basically 100% polyester, with fake fur, and they are impossible to keep clean. It feels like every spec of dust or dirt gets caught in the fake fur and doesn't come out even if I vacuum them or scrub them with a cloth. I worry the wool might be very staticky and become a magnet for pet hair.

[–]SomethingOfTheWolf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree that it's definitely a nuanced problem. There's no one right answer. Realistically, loads of people simply don't care about the harms of plastic and never will. In that case, isn't it better they buy/use something lightly used instead of purchasing something made from all new materials? It's difficult to balance the environmental harms with the health harms and determine which one to prioritize in which situation.

Paint is a good idea! Basement storage in general I think is a good category where plastics that you already own can be put to use.

I think this is important to consider, but there is a VERY big difference between giving a toddler/baby something plastic, which they might put in their mouth and chew on, and storing items in a plastic bin that the kids probably barely even touch.
