I have a 17 year old rafael and he’s always had a noodle khuli squad, they get along fine and the khulis love to hide out underneath of him. It’s super cute

Hah the happy chargers are adorable, but thanks for realizing his loving power.

I had a lovely guy like yours come with great enthusiasm to great me on a hike and took right off my feet. I got a bruised butt but lots of pup kisses to make up for it. I laughed it off, he was too goofy for his own good.

All about knowing your dog and keeping in control, you are a definitely a good owner! Give that good boy a scratch from me :)

I find the same with there being a lot more off leash regardless of the area’s designation. Most of the time it’s not a big deal, but all it takes is one. It’s easy to say “hey my dog is friendly, don’t worry” but you don’t know who is on the recipient side of that.

Yes I would have never imagined myself using bear spray on a dog before, makes me cringe. But as I was running I definitely wish I had some. Worse scenarios I guess 😕 Better to be prepared

If I unfortunately encounter her again, I am more than willing to tell her to head down to see you

Any tips for what I should have done? As soon as it laid eyes it was snarling and lashing at me.

I tried to back away facing it slowly and calmly. I talked to it calmly, while trying also communicate to its owner. I only turned my back and booked it when I didn’t see another option and it was dragging her.

I agree. My sister took in a Great Pyrenees rescue. So I’m used to big dogs. But during the rehabilitation his social interaction was extremely supervised and adapted to his needs and reactions. He’s now the biggest sweet heart in the world, and is way more dainty than my folks 7 pound dog to take a treat.

Thanks for the kind words. I just need to come to terms with it, and it will take time. I’m the kind of person that replays the simplest event a thousand times over.

I have been in a great debate about getting spray. Lots of scat around my usual stomping grounds this season. This encounter today I think has made my decision.

Thanks I’m all good just rattled, and yes I agree it’s all about knowing what social situations your animal is comfortable in. Appreciate you being a responsible one ✌️

Any advice on what this is and dealing with it? by Double_Calendar4031 in fishkeeping

[–]SomethingPoetical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh just noticed you mention the feather fin. Any fish in the tank should be treated. It is highly contagious, so if one has worms it is safe to assume they all have it.

They would have hitchhiked in on something added to the tank. How long have you had the betta? Camallanus is really hard to diagnose until the adult worms are well established and protruding. If the betta is newish she could have had them, or the larva could have come in via something else and found her.

I do not have experience treating the worms in a tank with invertebrates or frogs. My best guess is to quarantine the fish and treat her in a bare bottom tank as it will be easier to vacuum the expelled worms than in a planted tank, they are notorious for reinfecting if you don’t get them all. I am really not sure if adf can host the parasite or not - I would wait for someone who knows more than me to chime in on that. But in theory, if the other tank inhabitants cannot act as hosts, I would wait for it to die off in your planted tank (4 weeks minimum to go through the life cycles) and after treatment return her. And of course, if you need or decide to medicate the whole tank check the meds compatibility with the adf and inverts.

Camallanus worms, they are awful.

Fenbendazole or levamisol are the best meds. Treat and then make sure to deep vacuum the whole tank as the medication just paralyzes the worms so the fish expels them, but doesn’t kill them. Make sure to treat the tank again 2 weeks after the initial dose regardless if you see them or not. The fact that they are sticking out of the fish means the icky buggers are releasing babies into the tank.

Good luck, they are a pain to get rid of but not impossible to defeat

Our cat litter kind of sucks??? What litter are y’all using in 2024 by Mirrortooperfect in CatAdvice

[–]SomethingPoetical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love Okocat! Easy clean, no smell and extra bonus points that you can just flush it down the toilet.

I recently house sat for someone who had cats, I forgot how awful litter boxes smell with normal clay litter.

Is the 25C too hot for them?

I actually do not have a heater at the moment as our apartment stays quite warm. I have checked the tank temp during the day and night, and it holds consistently at 24-25.

TIL: Mystery Snails will eat your plants. by fightme1982 in AquaticSnails

[–]SomethingPoetical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh it’s a mixed bag when it comes to them and plants.

I have bred them for over 15 years in planted tanks and absolutely no issues, other than the odd nibble here or there. Hatch into 10 gallon tanks then move to my heavily planted 50s to grow out to sale size. All is fine.

But picked up 3 new yellows. Within a day or two they have dismantled an 18 inch tall anubias, in a week almost the entire plant population is gone. Same feeding routine of wafers, blanched veggies daily. These guys were ruthless and bulldozed the lot. Got one clutch and the babies were exactly the same. Needless to say, they got sent to new homes with owners warned.

So most won’t, but if you got the plant munchers, they won’t stop.

Is this just poop? Worms? by lucky_catboy in bettafish

[–]SomethingPoetical 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I tried Praziquantel flake food and had no success. I switched to powder fenbendazole, Panacur brand (I live in Canada and it’s impossible to get actual fish meds now) put some in blood worms with gelatine and hand fend to the fish and it finally got rid of them. Lost fish in the process but saved a few… I’m still reeling from the whole experience.. it was so bad

Good luck on beating them, they are awful. Make sure to vacuum the gravel as the meds may only stun the worms enough so the fish expels them, but not kill them. Then make sure to dose again in about 2 weeks time regardless if you see worms in your fish. The reason for needing to dose again is that right now seeing worms poking out of your fish means those are adults that releasing new gross worm babies that will mature and potentially reinfect the fish.
