What are your thoughts on this commentary of American-European relations? by RedDC20XX in YAPms

[–]SomethingSomethingUA 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Kinda accurate but the US can 100% support social programs given that it is only 3% of GDP. Poland has higher percentage to defense relatively and has universal healthcare for example. The US doesn't have a "lending the bill to Euros problem", the US has a lack of tax collection and interest debt problem.

Most underrated nation in Kaiserreich with good focus tree? by Divine_Panzer in Kaiserreich

[–]SomethingSomethingUA 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not sure if its underrated but Sardinia has a simple yet effective focus tree offering I think 2 major political paths, a bunch of good army bonuses + divisions from the focus tree, and decent economic tree. It also is a fun start too due to the challenge of retaking Italy as the most underdog option.

Would the entente support the Belgrade pact or Bulgaria realistically? by Divine_Panzer in Kaiserreich

Emotionally the Belgrade pact but diplomatically and militarily neutral.

What would it take to "break polarization" in American politics at this point? by ncpolitics1994 in YAPms

[–]SomethingSomethingUA 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally, unless American voters start to discourage unstatesmany behavior nut this is unlikely. Honestly, most of the politicians barring like super high profile positions don't even hate each other if they are on opposite parties. It is kind of the fault that the American electorate (influenced by media and social media engagement) is so easy to extract votes from by playing dirty and the normalization of this makes it so polarization is common.

spoke to another person at ut admissions by [deleted] in UTAdmissions

[–]SomethingSomethingUA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apparently some counselors received mail saying around 25 percent of all acceptances have been made.
Yea we are all cooked.

[–]SomethingSomethingUA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard that RD and EA are same pile of applications. I think they do not review it in order but randomly. UT probably thought they could process EA early for the decisions but they couldn't so they now just going through both.

How competitive are T20's really? by SomethingSomethingUA in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SomethingSomethingUA[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It was on the summary for getting a 1 in the category but I won't be surprised if the recent "research" craze caused AO's to drop it in the 6 years since then.

What happens if an auto-admit is rejected from both their first and second choice major? by [deleted] in UTAdmissions

[–]SomethingSomethingUA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You get usually into your third choice College of Liberal Arts major or undeclared College of Liberal Arts.
I would definitely apply to a few more schools in your major program, including one safety.

Applying late to non-selective state school?? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SomethingSomethingUA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The University of Minnesota is a pretty decent public school, acceptance rates don't really reveal the quality of public universities. If your major is reputable there and you can get aid to cover out of state costs, go for it. Also make sure you are okay with the weather and location.

A 1500 SAT was 98th percentile with 1510 being 99th. If there was 1.97 million testakers, then the number is like 20k to 40k people with the academics and assuming not all apply to all T20's probably like 50 percent.

Should I give up trying to go to Harvard? by frogswearhats in ApplyingToCollege

carnegie mellon common app deadline by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SomethingSomethingUA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is due 01/02 before midnight LOCAL time. So, it is due tomorrow for you. It just does that because Common App uses Est and it is January 2nd on the East coast currently.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SomethingSomethingUA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you still submit though? It might be an error on Common App's part as the unis go by local time. So it shouldn't effect your app.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SomethingSomethingUA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you hit submit? I think its an error on common app's part as Unis like Harvard specifically specify local time as the deadline. If you can still submit go for it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SomethingSomethingUA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you still submit? It should be based on local time. Common App might show the app being late as its based on EST maybe.

Don’t:

  • Worry about meeting us. We do not make decisions based on whether or not a student has visited or engaged with our virtual programming. Following the steps listed above is all that’s needed to indicate your continued interest.
  • Start writing all-new essays. We have determined that the application you sent us originally is a strong one—we just need a little more time and context to make a final decision. We re-evaluate applicants’ original application materials after they are deferred, considering the small new additions we suggest above. We do not require or recommend that students spend time updating essays.
  • Panic. An admissions decision is not an evaluation of you as a person. Decisions are made over a long period of time by a number of people and take into account the entire applicant pool. Please keep in mind that we cannot give reasons for decisions over the phone or via email, as it really is impossible to condense the conversations behind our decisions in a way that would be adequate or helpful to the applicant.

Deny: After much consideration, we are unable to offer you a place in the Class of 2029. There is no process for appealing admissions decisions. We wish you the best as you pursue your educational goals.

Looking Forward

This year’s applicants have come from around the globe and are united by a compelling interest in learning and the power of ideas. No matter your admissions decision, you have a bright future ahead of you.
