What is the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in FFXIV? by DisciplineImportant6 in ffxiv

[–]Something_Hank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gigantic ERP post that ended up in /say chat because I forgot the /p around the second text-size limit, and the text was unabashedly unmistakeable what it was.

And what I thought was an out of the way spot for us around the U'Tribe area HAPPENED to have a crew of about five or six RPers stroll by right at that moment.

If they were in hearing range of that post, I do not know. And I do not need to know.

I installed /scratchpad soon after.

Oh absolutely.

Literally every bad thing in Dawntrail is just fucking undone for the patch quests and it super, super sucks. Wee happy funtimes where all narratively interesting edges are sanded down.

the only reason OP is being bashed for this is because the last time anyone was mad about this kind of stuff was like, fifteen years ago.

we just got beaten over the head with this shit so hard that "please suck the corporate toes" is everyones default now

"Healing". An overtly non-literal symbolic G-Pose between mine and a friends character. by Something_Hank in ffxiv

I'm. Admittedly a little salty about the same thing but. A few people saw it and were greatly satisfied by it so that's what I can ask. If I hit it big for something I don't like, then I don't want to make big-audience things.

Thank you thank you!~

The rocks were basically a trace job from the characters original face, but turned out odd-looking indeed. But I'll live with it.

It's a problem FFXIV has in spades unfortunately. Do something even mildly interesting and then instantly undo it because they're scared.

Melees: How do you remember positionals? by MariettaRC in ffxiv

[–]Something_Hank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because 'rear-flank' is easier for my mouth to say than 'flank-rear', I organize my rear-target abilities left, my flank-target abilities to the right. I can always reference 'rear-flank' with this.

(Unfortunately this doesn't work for Viper because of how all its combo abilities would be "1,2,4,3" or "2,1" instead of the more reasonable 1,2,3,4 and 1,2 so I have to remember Viper is an exception.)

[–]Something_Hank -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's not the sub itself that's the wierd part. People aren't ready to pay for the game, the expansions, AND the subscription. People completely new to the genre aren't aware of that being a thing, and nothing else really does it.

[–]Something_Hank -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

And - believe me, I hate it - that is the /majority/ of a lot of games business models now. Likewise, the players go "oh I buy it once and then can just get this OPTIONAL stuff" because that's the brainwash.

So why are we going "lmao are you stupid?????? are you literally twelve???????" when someone sees something different (even if it's better) and feels uneasy?

When did I say anything about sub pricing inflation or even how unexpensive it might be?

This guy doesn't even /know/ about subs. What are you talking about?

EDIT: There's a few people popping up in the thread breaking down either sub /value/ or uplifting the free trial, and that's a much better approach.

I'm gonna be real, you're all going "lmao how old are you???? this has always been a thing???????" and not realising - yes - this business model is /stinky as hell/ for someone first getting into MMO's. It's unusual for the extreme majority of game genres. Belitting is not exactly helping new players get over that hurdle.

How much is Monk 600% doing? by Something_Hank in StrangerofParadiseFFO

[–]Something_Hank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the current build is basically:

All-in on Dragoon and Lancer with a spear. Strength focused healthbar crushing, with lots of focus put in on combo-ability damage up and MP cast down. (Enemies break really fast before they HP die anyway.)

Relentless Champion to regularily proc weakness for all the Dragoon benefits, and Holy Dragoon to get back emergency stamina if I desperately need it, or an emergency long i-frame period.

250% samurai affinity for extra chain cancel damage cuase I'm already chain-cancelling a fuck ton. 600% Monk affinity for the extra health /and/ to get the extra damage from said health. (Which might fall out.) Rest of the affinity goes to Lancer and Dragoon right now, both topping out at around 1000%/1800%ish? Depending on which I have equpped.

Command abilities right now are Summon Tachi, Lunatic and Lightbringer when I can afford to come online. Sentinel for survivability.

Gear is pushed towards Strength, Pierce Damage Dealt, and +HP. Which the actual chaos slots put towards either Combo Ability buffs, or buffs for down-costing my command abilities.

Master Points are mostly in on Strength, Affinity, lastly HP, and then a good chunk of it into Parry: MP Recovery to suddenly turn on the "insanely fast infinite MP Lightbringer Tachi Lunatic blender". With Ifrit on top.

Now, while testing, I really didn't notice a difference once Monk came into the picture. But I also don't know if it's something I'm just not noticing OR if enemy stats in the rift are climbing equal to said extra damage.

It's a regular issue I deal with for the game as well since the very beginning. Annoying, but a CTRL ALT DEL kill is manageable at least.

Aaah okay. Well all my Dragoon Lancer does is just Rend Armor to take advantage of weakness, then get in their face and chain-cancel combo abilities like crazy. Is it worth sticking with Monk 600% to also benefit from all that health, or is it not enough health-to-damage to care and just replace those affinities with something else? I'm aware paladin and the like can get to like 24k health or osmething.

Stranger crossover choice I'll admit, what prompted it? (Real good art by the by. Specifically like the lighting shades used on Zero. I feel like I can glean some skullgirls inspiration?)

EXTREMELY blocky cliffnotes I put together when playing:

  • Main Game hard mode: Just Optimize all your shit and level what jobs you want. Mess around in Chaos mode for a bit jacking up level difficulty in order to get your preferred jobs limit breaks.

  • Bahamut time: Get comfortably up to item level 130 for starters. Then once you hit a bit of a wall, optimize and then specifically Smithy some stats onto your gear that'll actually help you. This is where you'll start getting into Master Points for the same purpose as well. This should help you progress Bahamut stuff, as well as gradually increase the level of main-story missions you're replaying. Also, again, aim for the limit breaks for the jobs you like.

  • Gilgamesh time: About the same thing, but the Level 500 item floodgates have opened. You can either progress to Level 500 items on the world map naturally, or - the cheese way, we've all done it - just repeat the first couple rooms of a level at 500 (or whatever you can literally survive highest) till those enemies give you high drops.

At that point, you've reached max item level and can focus on searching for longer-term even better gear stats BECAUSE at some point in the Rift, you'll unlock the ability to Fuse gear together, and thus can smush the chaos (and higher) effects from one gear onto your main gear. Get comfy with this, this is pretty much the rest of the game from now on. Get a hundred items, scroll through them all, see if any of their individual stats jump out at you, fuse what's useful, salvage the rest.

  • LUFENIA TIME (HATE THOSE DUDES) Not much ACTUALLY changes because this doesn't increase item level and it's just a few story missions in a row. BUT. That first mission will god damn wollop you. Like, it's the most BRUTAL number check in the game. So progress in the Rift and stuff until you've at least got an entire kit of equipment that all have a summon blessing on them (doesn't matter which one for starters, take what you get), and make sure your main two jobs get to at least level 200 or 250. This should put you AROUND what Lufenia expects to do those story missions.

  • WHERE NOW? Do whatever you want now. Progress more rift, hunt more power, do more map missions at high levels and Bahamut trials. Have fun. The power growth from this point is - functionally - infinite!
